Topic: Do you buy The same game on two different systems?

I was thinking about buying Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Nintendo switch, But i already own the game on PS4. SO i want to know what everyone else thinks about buying essentially the same game on another console even though absolutely nothing has been added, As all of the games that i own on the Switch i got on there first and not on another console beforehand.

I'll buy The Witcher 3 on the Switch for the third time, so yes
But i only get a game twice (or thrice) if i really like the game and if i have an advantage offer the other versions, for example i first had TW3 on PS4, then got it in a steam sale for PC (because i have better graphics and framerate there) and now on Switch because i can pay the game in handheld mode

I don't generally rebuy the same game on another console if nothings been added.
I have repurchased quite a few games on Switch that I owned on other systems that were straight up ports, but the Switch itself is the big addition with the portability.

As a Nintendo fan who happens to be a PC gamer, I sometimes will buy games I already own on a Nintendo console, just to have the option of playing it on my PC. It's usually not often, it has to be a game I really like playing a lot.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

This is the biggest selling point of Nintendo to get more Gamers onto their system. Gamers want portable options and this will be the difference to buy again or not. Couch potato systems won't do it anymore. And you don't need alot of fancy hardware to hooked to a HDTV to play Docked as well.

Generally not. The convenience and flexibility of the Switch version easily trumps the PC versions of most games, at least in my experience.

The only time I would now favour the PC version (as I have only bought a gaming laptop quite recently) is if the game is not entirely on the cartridge. At least on Steam, I have the option of backing up the game and all of its patches and DLC either on a hard drive or on Blu-ray discs (which is what I will consider doing once I am confident that the final version of a game has been released). No such luck with Switch games as the data is encrypted to each console, and backing up microSD card data is mostly futile.

I regretted buying DOOM on Switch as a result of Bethesda cheaping out on the cartridge, but I still stupidly bought it on day one at full price as the single player campaign was on the cartridge, and I have been a fan of DOOM since I was a child. While I would overwhelmingly prefer the Switch version, because the content of most of Bethesda's Switch games aren't entirely on the cartridge, I would be more inclined to buy the PC versions going forward. The A/V compromises are very easy to swallow given the hardware disparity between the Switch and PC, and the port is absolutely amazing. It's a travesty that the cartridges are produced in such a halfhearted fashion. DOOM also doesn't lend itself well to quick sessions, which is perhaps another reason to favour the game on PC (which I am slowly in the process of playing at a higher difficulty with a Switch Pro Controller).

I am also a preservationist at heart, and that will now influence which platform I support going forward.

I would also be more inclined to support the PC version of a game if the PC version lacks DRM. Many games that have been ported to Switch, such as Late Shift and 1979 Revolution: Black Friday, are available via GOG with no DRM (and the storage requirements are easier to swallow on a PC), so, with those kinds of games as well, I would be more inclined to buy the PC version, unless they issue a cartridge release, in which case I would favour the Switch version, even if it is more expensive. Convenience is king.

In short, no, I would generally not buy the same game on PC and Switch unless a complete cartridge release is not available on Switch and/or I have really loved a particular game and, for whatever reason, want to have it on PC as well. If DOOM Eternal is provided in full on cartridge, I would be inclined to buy both the Switch and PC versions, otherwise, I'll just wait for the PC version to become bargain bin fodder. I'm not going to reward Bethesda for their bad behaviour anymore.

Sometimes. If we aren’t including VC I double dip on Fighting games often; usually pc and console. I have double dipped on a few switch games. I have an impulse buy tic for Okami though. (Have the Switch version twice) otherwise I try not to. I don’t sell games so I have no qualms playing on original hardware.

Generally no, but once it's released for Switch, I will have the physical GOTY version of The Witcher 3 on Switch, PS4, and XB1, plus the digital GOTY version on Steam. Not entirely sure why.

I'm a console gamer nowadays, but if I see a good game I have on console going cheaply on Steam I'll consider adding it. Not entirely sure why.

Not really since I've never been much into non-Nintendo gaming and by now I've dropped whatever little PC gaming I did. There is, however, one exception and that'd be Minecraft. I got it for PC way back but due to travelling a lot I wasn't ever able to play it for long and I refuse to buy a gaming laptop for one single game. Whatever laptops I had in all those years weren't able to run it without overheating. I wanted to play it for years but simply didn't have the hardware plus a lack of people to play with (as much as I love this game, sooner or later it does get lonely in singleplayer and I'm not the type who'd play with complete strangers).

Cue me getting my co-op buddy to agree to giving it a whirl on Switch. First time I saw it in action I was completely baffled by how smooth it was because I am not used to stutter-free Minecraft. Needless to say, I don't regret double dipping - it's good to be able to play this without having to worry about my hardware and most of all to play it consistently for once.

Currently playing: ACNL, Pokémon Pearl, Pokémon Art Academy, Minecraft, Mario Tennis Aces
Sidegames: Super Kirby Clash, Overcooked 2, Kirby's Dream Land 3

Looking forward to: Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokémon Swish
Hyped for: ACNH

The few times I double dipped, I realised I never play a newer version as much as the original, even if it's superior. The Switch has so much to choose from, and time is limited, so I rather buy something fresh.

I have bought games over the years on multiple systems. Take Mega Man 2 for example. I got it on the NES, 3DS VC, Game Cube (As part of the Anniversary Collection), Sega Genesis (As part of the Wily Wars) PS4 (As part of the Legacy Collection), and Wii VC.

So I have bought the same game for multiple systems not just two.

I've bought the same game for multiple systems several times. Mostly classics, having played the original release on its console of origin and then again when that game is made available on a portable device. Castlevania SotN, PS1 then PSP. Super Metroid, SNES then 3DS. And so on.

Now that I think about it, I do that a lot.

Bought the GB Pokemon and Zelda games on VC because I'm too used to playing on a 3DS and don't want to have to go back to older handhelds (and my Pokemon Red cartridge is corrupted anyway).

Collection of Mana because Secret of Mana is my childhood game, and also for the same reason I bought all Final Fantasy games again - portability and not having to dig up old consoles and kidnap someone's TV.

It's been so long since I've played the originals that it didn't feel like buying them twice though. The only recent games I got again are Hyrule Warriors DE (I like the game a lot but item farming in Legends made me give up) and Fire Emblem Warriors (I bought the 3DS version before I considered getting a Switch).

And if it counts, over the course of the past three years I bought used copies of opposite Pokemon versions.

Zuljaras

I did buy some of the same games for different systems

1. God of War III (PS3 and PS4)
2. Bloodstained Ritual of the Night (Switch and PS4)
3. Assassin's Creed Odyssey (Xbox One and PS4)
4. Darksiders 1 and 2 (both on Switch and PS4)
5. Elder Scrolls Oblivion (Xbox 360 and PS3)
6. Fallout 4 GOTY (Xbox One and PS4)

Dogorilla

I almost never buy games multiple times. Even the Link's Awakening remake I most likely won't buy because I already have the DX version on 3DS. However, I might possibly double-dip on Overwatch if it comes to the Switch because my laptop doesn't run it very well any more, but only if it has gyro and isn't too expensive.

If a game is available on both the Switch and PC, then I usually get it for both since both systems offer up a convenient way to play the title in different situations.

I bought BOTW on both systems. Don't ask me why, I guess I just wanted a portable BOTW. I also bought Mario Kart 8 on both systems. The reason for that was because I had nothing to play on the Switch at the time, and knew Mario Kart would occupy me for a while.

I might buy DQXI on the Switch, even though I bought it on the PS4. However, I'm undecided on that. TBH, I just haven't been super impressed with the game. I put it down on the PS4 unfinished once I found out that the Switch version was going to have the vastly superior orchestral OST (the one in the original release is just that bad), but even playing through the demo I'm not in love with the game. Maybe someday it'll be $30 on the Switch (hopefully) and then I might consider it. Not for $60, though.

Very rarely. I bought MInecraft multiple times because the kids like the switch version more than the ps4. Bought Towerfall on the switch because I wanted to give the dev money since we got it free on ps plus. I think those are the only 2. Though there are a number of games I would honestly prefer to have on the switch (Portal Knights, Darksiders 1/2, Spyro and a few others) doesnt make sense to buy them again especially for the price Switch vs Ps4.
