It was a few hours after making this topic that i realized that i have committed this act myself; I Got Bayonetta 2 On WiiU (It was the ReRelease version without the first game included), but i went and got the game a second time on Switch. Can you blame me? It's one of my most favorite games of all time, the idea of playing it on the go was an opportunity i could not pass up. Whoops. Ah well, might as well get that order sorted out.
Do we mean when I still have the other console with the game, @Willax. ... ? Not usually, in that case & only games I like enough to think it's worth it, anyway
Quite a few people I know got games again for Switch in order to play them on the go, though
As a Nintendo fan who happens to be a PC gamer, I sometimes will buy games I already own on a Nintendo console, just to have the option of playing it on my PC. It's usually not often, it has to be a game I really like playing a lot.
I do this, but in reverse. I'll own a game on PC but sometimes buy it again for the Switch's portability (usually indies). I'd never re-buy the same game on two different systems that didn't give any extra benefit (e.g buying a game for both PC then on PS4).
I very rarely double-dip on games. The few times I have was either if it came with a game collection or compilation (like my SNES Classic) or if the game offered enough improvements over another version (I have Twilight Princess for both the Wii and Wii U).
Currently playing: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations (Switch/AAT)
@Willax I'll rebuy an older game on a newer platform sometimes - especially in the case of an older console/PC game now on Switch because I find the Switch easily the best and most convenient platform to play games. But if I already have a game on Switch I'm not gonna rebuy it elsewhere. Why would I want to do that?
The only reason I might is if it is a game I have a friend(s) who has it on another platform and they don't have a Switch. Then maybe, if I really want to play that game with that friend I might.

I only rebuy games if they've been upgraded with extra features or the system I originally owned it on is more than 5-10 years old. If it's not much trouble for me to break out the system it's on, there's not much sense in buying it again.
While I generally wouldn't buy the same game on multiple platforms (current ones that is), I had bought Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on both 3DS and Switch, the 3DS version for the stereoscopic 3D, and the Switch version for the HD visuals. And I quite enjoyed completing the game for a second and third time (I had bought the Wii U version previously as well). I had skipped on other 3DS/Switch multiplatform releases as the 3DS versions hadn't contained stereoscopic 3D or any other content of note to make it worth buying alongside the Switch release.
I have double-dipped with enhanced ports on more recent hardware, but I would only very rarely buy two versions of the same game in the same console generation (for example, both the PC and Switch versions of a game). I like things to be at least a little bit different when playing a game for a second or third time, so being able to play it on a different platform is a way of achieving that.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
I bought a lot of games on the VC for Wii U. Those were my major repurchases. I haven't repurchased a single game on my switch. The portability doesn't matter to me. I did buy FFIX on ps4 when that came out since I thought achievements would be fun. I was right and I have bought several other games again on my ps4. The switch doesn't have an achievement system and with the portability not mattering to me....I can't see myself repurchasing any games on the switch. The switch also lacks VC. Overall, I purchased way more games on my wii u at this point in its lifetime.
It depends on the game. Games like Breath of the Wild and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze i've re-bought on Switch as i enjoyed both on WiiU. Also have rebought Mario Kart 8 for the multiplayer aspect, as many of my friends have a Switch and play on this system.
Breath of the Wild was a given 2nd purchase.
Have also re-bought some smaller titles as i love the Switch and it's portable aspect, and i've managed to finish some games this time around
Not all that often but I certainly do. It's a bit silly but I do like having old games I enjoy on current hardware just so I don't need to switch consoles to play another game. I really like how fast it is to pick up my Switch and start playing a game. Back in the Wii U days, I used to tell my friends that I prefer playing on my 3DS because I'm too lazy to turn on the TV and Wii U. That was half a joke but also half true. Wii U takes ages to start up. Sometimes I also buy the same game again because I want to support the developer.
As an example, I have Child of Light for Switch even though I have it on Wii U. I kind of wanted an excuse to buy it again though so I decided to get the physical combo pack with Valiant Hearts. I only paid the price of Child of Light and got another game that I hadn't played. I've also considered getting physical version of Virtue's Last Reward on 3DS even though I bought it years ago digitally just because I love the game and it's really cheap. But I guess I should just wait and see if the trilogy comes to Switch. And I have Breath of the Wild on both Wii U and Switch because I didn't get Switch at launch but wanted to play Zelda asap. Waited for a sale before buying it again. Price is something I always keep in mind when buying a game for the second time.
It's its, not it's.

Only game I've done that with is Stardew Valley on Switch and various version of Final Fantasy VII over the years. Repurchasing games I already own feels like a waste of money, personally.
Without counting virtual console
Some times.
I bought super Mario world then bought it for the gba
Have super Mario all stars and bought again for the Wii
Loz windwaker for the cube and again for the Wii u but that’s a remaster
Same with twilight princess Hd
Have pikmin 1-2 for cube and have them digitally on Wii u
Wii u
Mario kart 8 and now mk8deluxe
Captain toad TT
Donkey Kong Tf but have sold the switch version
Same with rayman legends, sold the switch version.
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
If you love a great game and know you'll play it again on Switch or anything else, go for it. I have no guilt about my mini consoles, compilations, and rereleases I've collected over the years.
Between Atari Flashback HD 8 Gold, NES Mini, SNES Mini, Playstation Mini, Namco Plug n Play Arcade, a rom dump of NES, SNES, and Genesis on my PC/MAME arcade and Original Xbox, Super Mario All Stars on SNES, Williams Arcade Classics SNES, Atari Anniversary on Dreamcast, Mega Man and Mega Man X collection on Gamecube, Midway Arcade Treasures 1, 2, and 3 on Xbox, Sonic's Genesis Collection on X360, Halo CE remake on X360, a boatload of 3DS and Wii U VC, Master Chief Collection on Xbox One, Rare Replay on Xbox One, Gears of War remaster on Xbox One, Switch NES app, Atari Flashback Classics, Contra Collection, Castlevania Collection, Namco Arcade Pac, SNK 40th Anniversary, Genesis Collection, Megaman Legacy 1+2, Megaman X Legacy 1+2, Collection of Mana, Street Fighter Collection, Ultra Street Fighter II, Resident Evil remake, Hyrule Warriors DE, and Castle Crashers all on Switch.
MarioKart 8 because none of my friends had a wii u, and everyone has a switch that I can play online with. I have a large retro game collection and have repurchased many of the old games digitally on wii/wii u/switch. I've also bought a few game compilations that have games I already own. I also got the NES and SNES classic mini even though I already own the majority of the games on them.
Almost never. Probably could count on one hand the games I've done that for in my entire life. Stardew Valley, Mario Kart 8, Tropical Freeze... that might be it. Funny how they're all semi-recent games mostly Wii U/Switch lol
In terms of Switch games, only if they are dirt cheap. I've bought grim fandango and king oddball that I already own on PS4 (technically king oddball is ps plus so I didn't actually own it). I am very tempted by the Japanese crash bandicoot n sane trilogy though because it's the old PlayStation mascot published by Sega on a Nintendo console, that's just too much awesome in one go.
Otherwise, I've bought loads of remakes and remasters, Zelda's HD and 3D, sega 3d classics etc
I have rocket leage on the switch that I usually play but since moving to to country for a while the wifi out here sucks, was thinking about picking up rocket leage on PS4 to see if I had any better luck

A long time ago I bought Secret of Mana for the SNES. Years later, I wanted to play it with my boys and bought it for the Wii. Then I bought the SNES mini which came with Secret of Mana and now I have the Collection of Mana on Switch.
I also once bought Final Fantasy 3/6 on SNES, bought it on PS1, bought it for the DS and then got it on my SNES mini.
