I have bought my kids a switch lite each for xmas. What is the best way to set up in terms of games? I bought the switch lite both with physical copies of Mario Kart 8 on offer as if its one game they will want to play against each other it will be that.
As I understand it they cant play local multi player with only 1 copy of game , so would need 2 copies for multiplayer.
What is the best set up buy digital and share games, or buy physical and share? Whats the main advantage other than not having a physical copy, as Kids do still like to have a disc/cartage to open at Xmas and Bdays.
I am only really using the Switch Lites for Pokemon, mario, animal crossing, Zelda games. They will use the PS for other games like Lego, Fifa, Rocket league, Rayman etc etc
@rsbhj I'm a big fan of the account sharing on Nintendo Switch. Basically, set Child A's Switch as the primary console for Child B, and visa versa. What ends up happening is that the children will be able to share all of their digital purchases across both devices, which means only having to buy one copy of a game if both want to play it. The only downside is that, when playing games on their own account, the Switch will generally have to connect to the internet for a second or so before actually getting into the game. It's only a momentary thing, and they can play games connected to the other child's account without that digital check.
I don't know if this form of account sharing will allow them to play games together locally, so maybe grab multiplayer games physically.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
Thanks my understand is that no games allow local play if only having one copy. To be able to play in 2 player mode you would have to own 2 copies of the game. I hope I am wrong but from what Ive read and been told its not possible
@rsbhj For local play between two consoles, you'll need two copies of the game (doesn't matter if they are digital or physical).
From the article I pasted above: "Assuming you're happy to juggle accounts and have the requisite Switch Online subscriptions activated, it's entirely possible to play online with each other, although it's impossible to play multiplayer locally using the same software across two consoles (for that you would need two copies of the game).
@WoomyNNYes
Thanks for the info, so you can play multiplayer with one copy of the game online?
So if my kids shared 1 game if they played online it could be multiplayer and does that also save? Is there any limitations with the multiplayer this why.
Presume this is only possible with a digital copy?
Seems bizarre why you can multiplayer online but not locally maybe I am missing something.
@rsbhj It doesn't matter if you buy physical or digital games - it doesn't change the game. Game save data is stored internally on the Switch, not on game cards. The advantage of a physical game is sharing, but only one console can play it at a time. If kid A is not playing a physical game, kid B can put that game card in their console and play it.
Not all games support the local wireless play, as great as that function is. Although, Nintendo brand games are most likely to have local wireless play. Some game companies make games for playstation/xbox, and bringing them to the Switch was an afterthought. Porting a game to the switch takes A LOT of time & money, and it's up to the game developers if they want to add local wireless - it is more work for them to add local wireless.
I know you had a few other questions there, but that's tricky to answer without knowing which game you're talking about. Let me know if you still have any questions.
I’ve watched couple vids on the process for sharing account between 2 switches so both can play the same game at the same time.
With family online they can play multiplayer also.
Whole process is a little confusing but I think I’ve got it in my head now.
I guess in that case buying digital is better, as with physical they can share but simply can not play at the same time, which is that I want to be able to do.
I like the idea of digital but physical is great to get as a gift, kids are still young that a physical game is better to receive than a digital game if you know what I mean.
If only you could load the game from physical only once and have it saved on your account to share.
Or you can contact Nintendo Support and ask them about the games you have and they can give you better info as to what can be shared or needs both games loaded Digital or Physical cart to play locally.
@rsbhj The nintendo ecosystem is designed for buying one game per console if you want to play console vs console. And the caveats of sharing digital games are intentional. If I was going to set my nieces up with two switch consoles, I would plan on buying one copy per console for console vs console play. That is probably Nintendo's stance too.
As switchforce mentioned, you can ask Nintendo customer service, which is very good here in the US. UK and US nintendo sites have a chat messenger, phone line, and UK also has email. You'll be better off talking to someone via the phone line or chat messenger, for the faster back and forth. On nintendo uk's site, find the contact us page. (if their chat messenger is closed for the night, you could try Nintendo of America and see if it will let you access it. I don't know if someone outside north america can use the Nintendo of America's chat messenger feature.
Thanks I can get in contact with them was just curious to see what other families with kids were doing via this forum?
If you have kids, or a couple, older siblings etc who own 2 or more switch lites would be good to know your thoughts.
I think reading into it more the main issue for digital and 2 lites will be when we are away from an Internet connection, this is going to be key for game sharing.
Question I was wondering is could you connect 1 lite to iPhone hotspot say to verify for a few mins? That would be a workable maybe, not for all cases like flying or out of mobile data signal.
It seems to work great it if you have an original switch and that is docked at home
Connected to Internet and then the lite your secondary would become your primary.
Console v console yeah I see now this is not possible but the main thing is playing the games at the same time even just solo, or they can play together via online as they would with a friend, in like a coop mode?
They are young 5 and 8 so it’s going to depend on me to set them up when they want to play the same game and ensure 1 lite always has internet connection.
It may just boil down to a tough stance of physical games if one is player then the other has to play something else. Maybe justification to buy copy of 2 physicals at times if it’s game they both really love as I have already done buying mario kart 8 with the lites.
The lites after all are mainly for using when out and about, travelling etc
