Okay, I'm going in VERY open-minded here. I want to hear impressions, opinions, thoughts, about why YOU PERSONALLY are enjoying Metroid Dread.

As outspoken as I have been about the game, a part of me wants to give it a chance because I'm a HUGE Metroid nerd, with Super Metroid being my absolute favorite game of all time. Keep in mind I hated Fusion, though. I found everything about it from the story to the gameplay just lacking in all departments, so talking about Fusion might not win me over! I also found Samus Returns to be underwhelming, as well as Castlevania Lords of whatever that was, so I already have a slight bias against Mercury Steam.

HOWEVER. If they have learned from their mistakes, I'm willing to give it a try.

I assure you I am being sincere, and not using this as a way to troll. I am not here to counter your arguments or start new ones/turn this into a flame war.

I actually want to use this as a way to listen.

So, go for it. Gush, but be honest. If there's something you don't like about the game, I want to know. If there are things you enjoy, I also want to know.

I'm not a massive fan of Metroid generally but I'm very much into Dread. I feel that it's pretty linear but in a way that doesn't feel linear. There are cheap instant kills as part of the core gameplay but they don't feel cheap and just pull you into having another spin. There are sections where you feel like you've hit a dead end and it's not clear what to do next but what to do next presents itself in a way that the best Zelda games do. And it's hard enough to be rewarding but not so hard you don't feel like you're progressing

The visuals are pretty solid, it's a 2D game rendered in 3D but not in the same way that most "2.5D" games are. The camera is dynamic in a way that really drags your attention to what you should be doing next without being super clunky. The environments are varied and I'm sure people who picked up the OLED model are in for a real treat. In terms of framerates, I have encountered one section where it stuttered a bit but it was pretty brief. It's pushing the Switch I expect but not in a way that you feel like you're missing out due to the hardware limitations. The game is at home on the Switch

Honestly, I'd probably put it second to BotW on a list of games people should play on the Switch. Genuinely. When people in 20 years are asking what Switch games should be on whatever NSO is at that point? BotW first, then Metroid Dread

Unless I'll be receiving a cheque from Nintendo's marketing division, I ain't sayin' nothin'.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Serious question: Are the EMMI fights pointless? In playthroughs I've seen if the player dies enough they just...get out of the way and people seem to be allowed to proceed. Do they spawn in random locations in their rooms or something? What's the point of them?
