If Square Enix does green light a Chrono Trigger remake would you guys prefer it to be in the cell shaded style of the Trials of Mana remake (mind you with Dragon Quest XI quality)? Or something more a kin to Final Fantasy 7s?

Keep in mind that going the FF 7 route will take forever and a day to develop, with no certainty of a Switch port.

I personally would love a quality cell shaded remake (again with the quality of DQ XI). Not that the ToM remake is lacking quality. Overall SE did a fantastic job with that game. But if you've played DQ XI you know that games quality blows ToMs away in every single way.

I'd be totally up for either. Chrono Trigger was way ahead of its time, and it's a game I've yet to finish. Would love a chance to jump back into the game

I love what they've done with FFVII Remake so far, I'm really interested to see what happens in episode 2.

Chrono Trigger is one of those games I'm pretty sure should never be remade. Literally unless the remake exists to make it look like an animated Toriyama anime, with relatively few changes, I think the only thing they should do with Chrono Trigger is re-release it for every console forever. And some of my favorite games I'd be open for remakes, but Chrono Trigger to me is perfect as it is, don't touch it.

Are there plans to remake it?

@Mountain_Man

As of right now, no. But If SE decides to do another one, it seems Chrono Trigger would be the logical choice.

I'm sort of surprised S-E hasn't brought the iOS port of Chrono Trigger over to the Switch yet. We've been getting a steady stream other S-E iOS ports over the years. The World Ends With You, Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition, Romancing Saga 3, Dragon Quest 1-3, etc. At this rate we'll probably get the iOS port of Life is Strange on Switch before we get Chrono Trigger, lol.

I don't think Chrono Trigger needs a remake. It's fine the way it is. But if they did remake it should be cell shaded. I can't see how they'd be able to recreate the artistic style of the game otherwise.

Well, the iOS/Android one would be great .... It's really a bit awkward, with touch controls & would be so much better on Switch

@AJL76 Honestly I would not want to see a remake in the style of FF7's remake. I'd much rather see it get the Octopath Traveller style of "HD2D" and keeping the classic style of the game but remastering the cut-scenes and making some quality of life improvements.

I'm honestly really not a fan of the next gen trends of "good graphics means everything needs to aim for realism"

I'd rather Terranigma be remastered or ported over. But I doubt that'll ever happen.

There's no need to remake this. I'm not sure I even want a "remaster". Just give us the game exactly as it was originally released. Only thing I would like to see are the animated cinematics rescanned in HD.

@Mountain_Man I think there probably is a need to remake it. I know plenty of people who wouldn't play a pixel art game, but would enjoy a lot of the concepts in Chrono Trigger

There's nothing stopping them doing both like dragon quest XI.

Honestly the game is perfect, but if you could bring so many games like this to ff7 remake standards it could redefine how the world once worked and alleviate limitations for its time and show something greater than the original product, so my hope is on ff7 remake version and a port for the original.

Honestly I'd prefer a compilation in the style of Collection of Mana or the FF Legend collection that was announced today that included both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross on Switch, PS4 and PC

I’d be happy to pay for an exact port of the SNES version, even happier if the DS anime scenes were added in. A new art style would be ok, but not an entire redo like FF7.

I wouldn't mind either way. I think I would like a 2D look more, but it's Chrono Trigger. It's a masterpiece. I would buy it just to replay it in a reimagined way. To see what's different, for better or for worse. Last time I completed it was when it released on Wii VC.

Chrono Trigger Collection! God yes!
Let's have all versions on it or a version that combines the best of them all, and Chrono Cross + Radical Dreamers to top it off. That'd be a dream come true. It'll be Quintet Trilogy and Mother Trilogy level of hype.
