Topic: can you completely turn-off switch analogue sticks?

Dear people,

In my other topic I asked about joy-con alternatives (because my current ones are drifting all over the place). But I was wondering if you can disable the analogue sticks all together. I know that some games can't be played that way, but at the moment I mostly play games that don't require analogue sticks. Maybe if I press the analogue-stick buttons when starting up the Switch? I just want to disable them temporarily.

@Henmii It looks like you can disable whatever you want with the Switch's button remapping. Let me know if I works, since I've never tried it.

@WoomyNNYes,

You can remap everything, including the analogue sticks buttons, but NOT the analogue sticks themselves. So you also can't turn them off, from the looks of it.

@Henmii I just looked, too, out of curiosity. Weird you can disable any button but the "control stick". Maybe they didn't want someone to disable sticks, and therefore disable menu navigation? That would be a problem if you you're using a half joycon, which only has one stick (rather than joycon pair having two). I realize I'm really reaching for an explanation there. I'm just trying to see the logic behind Nintendo's decision, if there is any.

@Balta666,

I used cleaning alcohol a couple of times but it only worked temporarily. And now it doesn't work anymore at all.

@WoomyNNYes,

That can't be it since you can still use the buttons.

I am wondering though if wrapping your switch tight in plastic is also bad for joycon. I always use the plastic bag that was around my Switch (in the original box) to protect my Switch with the joycon attached.

@Henmii The switch & joycons are sold in plastic bags. Minizing dust is good in the long run.

I keep my switch in a drawer (sometimes a case) when I'm done playing. And, turn the dock on it's side so connection plug doesn't collect dust.

@Balta666 I've tried electrical contact cleaner. Unfortunately, for me at least it was a temporary fix. I've got rid of my joy cons, as they were becoming more con than joy. I'm hoping Nintendo releases redesigned ones for the Switch Pro. That would be cool. Never had this issue with the Wii, Wii U or Gamecube.

Thanks for the reactions! I ordered the Hori split pad pro to replace my joycons, but I might also get a can of cleaner someday. As Balta666 said, there is pressure behind it wich might work to cleanse it.
