Hi all

I have set up my sons switch with a user for him, he is 8
I have setup a nintendo account for me as a parent
I have set him up as a family member on my nintendo account

We log into the eshop on his switch to try and buy Mario Kart in his switch user
It won't accept any of my credit cards, they are all fine and have plenty of funds
So I tried adding funds to my nintendo account online via paypal, however these funds don't show up when we try and buy in his user on the switch - now I have £50 on the eshop but can't spend it on the switch?

Should we be creating an adult user on the switch, then opening the eshop on that account and buying that way?
will the game then be linked to me? Will he be able to play the game even if not linked to him?

There is no help on the Nintendo site

Thanks In advance

@Bigg1970 As of April-ish, Nintendo UK support contact page looked like a form with drop boxes, but after you selected all the drop boxes, THEN it revealed the phone number for support. I'd recommend double checking to see if they are still hiding the phone number like that.(note: after the drop boxes, if you get a complicated form that wants a laundry list, like your console serial number, then select "Other" for category, and that will give you an email form page with the phone number at the bottom. I'm pasting the number in case it saves you time)

The short answer is, you haven't linked or setup up your son's nintendo account fully. I'm not trained in troublshooting well enough to help resolve that in a timely manner here. I don't know if you have more than one Switch console, if it's a "primary console" (vs non-primary), and there's still one or more things I'd need to know in order to get you working. I'd say talking to Nintendo is your most efficient option to resolving it.

(I've done this before, and the educating, and follow up questions usually make this take hours to resolve here in the forum, whereas it would take maybe 10-15 minutes talking to someone at nintnedo.)

@Bigg1970 There are some snags with certain credit cards (because of nintendo's security). Maybe one of these support topics can help? Forgive me, if you've seen these already.

Since an upgrade to security in spring 2020, some cards don't work. I don't know if you're running into that. Paypal was a way around that, but I see you said you tried paypal.

@Bigg1970 When you add funds to your nintendo account/eshop, they are only available to the Switch user that is linked to that nintendo account.

The second account you created as part of the family plan is a seperate nintendo account; It doesn't share share money/eshop. (Nintendo Switch Online grants access to gaming online, and the NES, SNES games)

(I don't think there is a way around that, as far as I know.)
