Topic: Better sound with the external speaker settings on PCM instead of Bitstream?

I set up surround sound with my HDMI eARC. I can choose to output the sound in either bitstream or PCM. From what I've read bitstream is better because it encodes the sound to Dolby surround, otherwise PCM is better because it is the raw sound and uncompressed.

Since the Nintendo Switch doesn't support Dolby and is limited to PCM, will I get better sound quality changing the external speakers to output in PCM instead of bitstream and selecting PCM instead of Passthrough/Auto? I don't want to miss any surround sound my limiting the output to PCM. (To be clear, it would only be changing the setting on the HDMI input connected to my Switch (HDMI 2), other HDMI inputs would still be on bitstream)...or does it even really matter?

There can be an advantage using PCM in terms of latency but the bandwidth requirements are higher. If you're using ARC (not eARC) or optical you'll be limited to stereo PCM. However with the Switch your only option is PCM. So either you're plugging directly into the receiver/soundbar and getting 5.1 LPCM, having eARC supported on both the TV and your reciever/soundbar and getting 5.1 LPCM .... or you're missing out on 4 of the channels

Also technically with Bitstream you can pass along things like Atmos. But again, the Switch only does PCM

I have a setup like this, Switch is connected to an A/V receiver/amplifier, which is connected to the TV, both via HDMI eARC. I haven't noticed any kind of quality issues with the 5.1 sound coming from Switch as PCM, when compared to other 5.1 sound sources using Bitstream or DSD. I don't have any sort of golden ears, though, but it works well enough for me.

Yes, I figured out how to check the output on my soundbar, and it says it's LPCM whether I have it set to PCM or Bitstream, so I guess it doesn't matter, but if I'm only using the Switch on that port, there's no reason to put it on Bitstream I guess. Thanks.
