re: Zero Gunner 2, is there anyway to obtain extra lives or continues?
I consistently make it to Stage 6 (made it to Stage 7 once), but can't seem to push further than that. Already playing on Child difficulty, so lowering the difficulty isn't an option, lol.

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@pbb76 : Agreed about Sky Force Reloaded! Finally got my ship powered up enough to shred through those early levels and boy is that fun! Still need to delve into the manual weapons (laser, shield, bomb), but not needed just yet. And Iβm still pretty clueless about the cards and ship parts....
Wasn't sure whether to post this here or over in the Arcade Archives thread?
Anyway, more arcade shooter goodness is imminent it would seem as Psikyo's SENGOKU ACES is already up on the Japanese eShop and slated for a release around Valentine's Day. That's very fast off the back of ZeroDiv's last brace of ZERO GUNNER 2 - and STRIKERS 1945 II.
On the point of the latter, I came across STRIKERS 1945 PLUS again the other day. This was a remake of STRIKERS 1945 II for the Neo Geo and saw the game adapted to run on the standard MVS aspect ratio. I believe this game also got a release on the PS2.
Anyway, my question is has anyone played STRIKERS 1945 PLUS and how does it compare to the original STRIKERS 1945 II? Could we see Hamster release this game and in a sense have two versions of the same game on the Switch? Just curious.
Finally, is STRIKERS 1999 the same game as STRIKERS 1945 III or am I getting confused? Ha! Ha!
Found a way to bump up my life count in the settings, and finally completed a run in Zero Gunner 2.
I'm not very good at it, but it's a very fun time, and I'll probably try to beat it with the standard number of lives eventually. Love the way it looks too. It's obviously an older game, but all the machinery looks cool as heck (especially the bosses), and so do the levels.
Does Psikyo have any other polygonal shmups I should be on the lookout for?

Hi guys, long time SHMUP fan here, both classics (H/V-SHMUP) and modern (twin-sticks are trending, at least on PC).
I'm currently curating a sort of SHMUP-retrospective on Steam involving games like Tales of ALLTYNEX serie (ALLTYNEX 2nd/RefleX/KAMUI), Jamestown (simply AMAZING!), eXceed, old & new Raiden(s) and the like.
That reignited my passion for SHMUP, so yesterday I've bought Sky Force Reloaded wich looks fantastic and plays really well: if you're into classical, fast SHMUP action chances are you'll need some time to adapt to the flow of the game, but I'm loving it so far.
Looking forward to build a good portable library, I'm so glad the Switch is getting some SHMUP love

@RetroGamerAndrew: Great observation about SkyForce. At most times (at least in the early going), there is not a lot on the screen that can kill or hurt you. The frantic element is figuring out how to rescue everyone or shoot down all enemies or no get hit, which is a challenge in itself (and objectives can change quickly with just one miss).
@scubydo My personal picks would be either of the Strikers 1945 games, haven't played enough of the second to say if it's better but it seems to be. Zero Gunner 2- is an absolute steal at Β£6.99/$7.99 and is less challenging than most other shooters. Aero Fighters 2 is also a favourite of mine. That's more than 2 but you can't go wrong with any of them. If I was to pick just 2 for you though I'd say go for Strikers 1945 II and Zero Gunner 2- as they both play very different from each other.

IMO the best shmup on the eshop right now is Strikers 1945 II. The first one is good too, but the sequel smokes it; it smokes everything. Tate mode in table top mode is awesome.

What do you use to prop up the Switch as to achieve TATE mode currently? I have to rest the Switch up on my knees whilst sitting to play it in that orientation. I'd love one of these custom 3D printed grips but have no clue how to even go about 'printing them'.
@bluedogrulez yes exactly! It's not about dodging quick bullets only... it's about shooting/dodging/rescuing at the same time before the target goes out of screen. And it's not easy as it may seem...
