@GrailUK I'm not really one for continues either. All my scores on both Strikers, Gunbird and Samurai Aces leaderboards are single credit scores after turning them off in the settings. It's just some of the games frustratingly don't reset the scores when you lose all lives. I don't understand why Tengai does this considering it was a later release, Strikers 1945 II which came out before that resets the scores.
The Psikyo shooters are tough cookies so 75% of a high score will likely have been made with the original 3 lives.
I kinda thought those extra credits felt like cheating a bit originally, but changed my mind in the Tengai challenge. I felt those really worked well for these kind of short challenges as it kinda brings tactical element for it. For example in Tengai I tried to use it to my advance, score/kill as much as possible instead of trying to just stay a live as long I can (if I died with bombs left means I didn't do good enough job). At some point though, to really be able get the maximum score it would mean really to avoid dying at all as you start to get those big points from extra power ups / bombs for example (and already getting to the next loop, getting high 800k's usually meant that you should be able to get to the level 5-6 at least with that one credit). It also made it a bit less hardcore and gave better change for us newbies to at leat get somewhere in the game.
@meppi64 Just reading back on this thread. What game are you talking about? WILD GUNS only getting a physical release in US? I thought it was also physical in Europe too? Or are you taking about this weird Penguin game? Is the latter coming to Switch then? I'm late to the chat and very confused, lol!
So Thunderforce IV will have online leaderboards. I smell a future Weekly Challenge. This also gives hope for other Sega Ages titles having the same feature.
Good news. Fingers crossed.

@Lroy well that makes two of us as I'm not even sure what thread I'm replying to. lol
But yeah, Penguin Wars should get a physical release in Europe against all odds if I'm not mistaken.
And I do believe that the retail release of Wild Guns will be USA only, just like the PS4 version.

@hybridseed Yep and it'll be here sometime over the summer. It will include the Styx mode from the Saturn version Here's some Switch footage
This is THUNDER FORCE IV running on Switch? Super cool. Hadn't realised the SEGA AGES announcement had been accompanied by actual Switch gameplay footage. So hyped for SEGA on Switch. It's like hooking back up with your first love [in your marital bed if you want to follow this analogy to lurid ends 😜] for many of us European gamers.
@meppi64 WILD GUNS: RELOADED not getting a physical release in the UK? That sucks, looks like I'll definitely have to wait for an eShop sale then. I'm sticking to my £25 absolute max limit for any single purchase digital game. Like I said before, with the Switch I told myself £20 is really the most I'd want to spend on any single digital title.
Past generations, I used to have a £10 limit, often only buying digital titles in sales - on PSN for example - but that slowly crept up and up with the Wii U. I'm trying to talk myself into sticking to my imposed limit for fear of breaking, can't you tell, lol!
@Lroy Well, on the positive side, quite a few shops have started importing US exclusive software at least since the Switch came out.
Surprisingly, I've seen this happen not only in the UK, but also Dutch shops.
And yes, I'm in Belgium and "import" from the Netherlands because my own country is looks like some backwater humpadump when it comes to competent online retail presence. lol
And actual retail stores for games are not much better either. I can't actually recall the last time I bought a game in Belgium besides when I pick up a new system on launch and want something with it.
I'm trying to limit my online spending on digital games as well and hold off on the more expensive titles in the hope of them seeing a retail release. Sometimes that goes out the window though, like with Battle Garregga and Dangun Feveron, which came to about 40€ each, not including the extra tax of having to buy Japanese PSN credit.
@meppi64 I bought the special edition of Battle Garregga (which has no disk) off Amazon Japan, and got the Platinum trophy for it! How is Dangon Feveron? Was hoping it would go on sale sometime but don't think either of them ever have, sure I read some where both those games were coming west but don't think they were released outside of Japan?
@hybridseed
I really wanted that special edition but since it had a download code, I didn't bother. Still kinda want it as it's nice to have the extras.
I did buy the Korean import after getting it on Japanese PSN (https://www.play-asia.com/battle-garegga-rev2016/13/70bsdd) They actually still have it in stock.
Just a little warning. If you decide to pick it up, a ton of the menus are in Korean, so you'll need a guide.
Knowing a tiny bit of Japanese, that version if fully manageable, but the Korean one is bought for me.
Then again, once the settings are the way you like them, you don't need to touch them again.
I haven't played much of it so far, but that's because I've had the game since the Sega Saturn days and I have barely turned on my PS4 in nearly a year now.
As for Dangun Feveron. Get it! It gets a 10/10 endorsement from me.
I never played it before as I don't really like playing on mame and such (just not my thing), so since this was the first official port, I had no idea what I was in for. And even though the plays I've seen on Youtube look really good, I didn't expect the game to be this good.
Since I'm in the middle of switching from PS to Xbox for everything besides exclusives due to various reasons, I'll be buying it again on that when it comes out.
Normally it should have been out on April 4th in the west, but I think that might have just been for the US as I haven't been able to find anything on the Belgium Xbox storefront...
I have no idea if it'll even come to Europe right now as there doesn't seem to be any info out there.

@Lroy my favourites are the P-51 and BF-109, and yeah it's dead tough, that may be my best score but will keep playing it, I'd love to beat the game on these default settings, can't wait to try TATE mode when I get my Hori stand in a few days☺
