@RetroGamerAndrew Thanks man. What game are you hoping comes up the most? @OorWullie That's a great start! Better than mine...mine being the operative word...pesky things...
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
So I've had a few runs on DU3, clocked a few hours, watched a few videos of some exceptional score making by you guys, and read all your gameplay tips posted in this thread...
... and yet I still don't know what the gems are and how/when you collect them. What I thought would be gems, those gold gem-shaped things that fill the screen in trance mode, can't be gems, because there's a lot more of them than I ever get credited for. Am I missing something?
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Congrats all !! This one messed me up good. Purchased when it came out, played on and off. Didn't have much time with working 10 hour days this week for the holiday. My score would've been in the tiny print at the bottom anyhow!!! Ha! Moon Patrol I've loved since a child, good choice. Still have my Atari version!(nowhere near the same.) So much goodness coming this Thursday can't wait!!!
@gcunit I think when you kill something in trance mode, you get a big ring of gold gems for the actual ship but also, any bullets it has fired on screen turn in to gold gems too! If you use the beam weapon while the screen is full of gold gems it acts as a hoover and sucks them all up, so I tend to tap beam intermittently but be warned, they travel quicker when sucked in so it can create a gap in your chain.

@gcunit Yup, those are gems. The points from gems, and all the enemies, are tied to your Graze Combo Counter, which is essentially a score multiplier. So the higher the combo count, the more points you get from shooting down each enemy and collecting a gem. Grazing bullets doesn't score any points, however.
@OorWullie Hm, the only thing I can think of is that even though you didn't register the 27k score earlier, the game somehow still counted it as your highest score. Once you pass that score it should register, hopefully.
OK I believe this is everyone who took part, or at least own Danmaku Unlimited 3 going by my friend list. I have the scores for some of you by going through the last few pages. I know some of you might not have been taking part or don't wish to submit your scores. Just gathering the names this way makes it easier for me to click on your names and check your last posts
Those who haven't submitted their final scores and wish to be on the leaderboard please let me know so I can make it up. I'll make an open leaderboard too which can be challenged at any time.
@GrailUK i'm perfectly fine with any shooter, but more generally I'm mostly a NeoGeo guy when it comes to arcades (CPS also, but they're not on switch). I'd say Tengai? Strikers 1945? Well even Sengoku 3, that one came out late and I couldn't play it in a cabinet. Time is on our side, no need to hurry besides, I've already spent quite a lot in the recent sale and currently thinking about buying Rocket League so... A week off is a good thing
The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on.
@RetroGamerAndrew I second Tengai, incredible game. Amazing graphics and that soundtrack, it's sublime, especially the boss music. Some of the comments by the baddies too
@OorWullie Haha, yeah, Psykio was crazy like that.
This one for instance is from Space Bomber, which looking at how we are probably going to be getting just about every single Psykio game on Switch will be the first time it gets a home release! Can't wait for that one.
And I just have to say, it feels so good to turn on a system and see a bunch of people playing Moon Patrol instead of FIFA and God of War.
Just had a couple of quick rounds and I only managed one round where I got through the minefield without blowing up. Naturally the next round without any mines, I drove straight into a rock...TWICE! lol

@RetroGamerAndrew Enjoy mate. I do like to hard-core some of these game! (Although, tbh I am not exactly sure what hard-core means these days. For me it was a style of play, maxing/minimising and just generally playing hard (so to speak) now it seems to be some divisive badge of honour.

Sorry guys, I was once again overwhelm with work and as such I only did a single run back on Monday and it was so bad I died before clearing the game! I fear that this situation will continue to be my reality, but I always want to participate somehow so here you go.
@OorWullie Thanks a lot for organising last weeks competition. The game was a great choice and certainly an interesting introduction to the world of Shmups for me! @GrailUK I bow to your dexterity and dedication
Just picked up Moon Patrol, and there is a lot more there than meet the eye! Glad I found this thread, as I get to play games that I would never have considered in a million years. Some work to do on Moon Patrol though, I see some of you lads have already registered very good scores on the online leaderboard
Finally I get my fair share of gaming.
Praise the Switch!

@Shiryu Eum, let me get this straight... You died before clearing the game? In Spirit Mode and Medium difficulty, without continues? And you think that was a let down?
Well, we're lucky you had a busy week then! I can't get past the level 4 boss yet!
@Fafounet Oh yeah, Moon Patrol has a really fun risk/reward thing going on.
Trying to make you go as fast as possible to score the highest possible end of round bonus, but by doing it, making it really tough to deal with enemies and obstacles.
That level 3 minefield will be the deciding factor I think. The first one that gets to speed-run that sucker without letting go of the right side of the stick will end up on top for sure.
The only thing that might hold this Caravan mode back, is that I can see a somewhat definite score ceiling appearing rather soon, but you never know till we hit it.
If that happens, we might always morph this into a normal game run or something.
