Still super exited by this SEGA Ages announcement and you fellas talking light-gun games and Saturn/Dreamcast as well just making it all the more (potentially) incredible.

@Lroy Tell me about it. I love the idea of playing Saturn and Dreamcast games on the Switch and really hope they release an awesome collection of titles. I'm still going to pick up a Saturn here soon for Sega Rally, but it would be great if Sega Rally and Sega GT release on the Switch. The system could use some racers and those would be awesome to have.
Speaking of racing, I've spent like 3 hours racing one track in the last two days trying to improve on my lap time. I still don't understand how some guys are getting such high lap times. I feel like I'm doing decent, but I'm still 10 seconds off the best lap time overall. Still, most of my lap times are in the top 10%.
I'm going to play some more Strikers 1945 tonight while watching hockey. I see a lot of activity in the thread, but glad to see everything is figured out now.
@CaffeinatedGamer Yeah. SEGA RALLY is a game I haven't played since its arcade cabinet or round my mates' house during the Saturn era. Outside of the original Xbox if not owned other Microsoft consoles so alas haven't kept up with the series at all. Playing it on Switch would be ace.
Re: The High-Score Challenge thread. Yes, a few technical details to agree upon as was always going to crop up once we moved outside of the easily defined Hamster ACA/Neo Geo titles which come with inbuilt online leaderboards and Caravan mode.
Like you, I'm glad it is sorted now π

I have been hearing that Sega no longer has the source for the original Penza Dragon game, is this true and if so, I wonder if it's the case for other Saturn games they produced? That would make porting them pretty difficult, as I understand emulating the hardware is incredibly difficult and taxing.

The European pre-order for SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is LIVE! Their charging Β£59.99 which is actually making me reconsider. The US price is $64.99. Based on the conversion rate I has hoped we would get a price of Β£45-Β£50. I know by the figures I'm thinking of it's only a tenner difference but that extra charge pushes this beyond what I can reasonably afford to spend on a single purchase albeit if it is a collection. Man, I really, really want theses games. The US have a listing for a Standard Edition on Amazon USA for $39.99. Do you think Amazon UK will get a similar edition?
Don't know what to do.

@FragRed I'm not sure about 1 and Zwei, but I know that indeed happened to Saga/RPG.
So yeah, if we're ever going to be seeing a port of it, it'll either be a complete rebuilt game, or some emulation miracle, which would take a lot of time and cost a lot of money to get of the ground and do the system justice.
Heard that Sega was notoriously bad when it came to preserving their original code, so lots of games have no doubt been lost.

@Lroy It's a good possibility that we'll see a regular release as well although that's always a crapshoot with things such as this. We just don't know what their marketing strategy really is.

I've bit the bullet and pre-ordered the Standard Edition from NisaEurope site for Β£42 and change including postage. Still higher than I personally would have liked to pay but it is what it is. I want to support releases like this by giving them my money - just don't have the amount these companies often feel they can charge. That said, I'm really happy to get this collection ordered albeit if I missed out on the Limited Edition extras.
Since when does STREET FIGHTER ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION cost Β£45? That's the current price on Amazon UK. Wasn't this originally Β£29.99. Then hiked up to Β£34.99 for Switch? Now another tenner has been slapped ontop.
I'm as reckless with my money as the next man but today has done my head in. Prices just seem set a gnat's wing under totally outrageous. I'm well used to it as Nintendo stays marginally on the right side of outright greed when it comes to what they charge for everything.
I'm not pre-ordering at Β£45.99 regardless of how much I would like the game. Time for me to be more strict and frugal I think. Retail games can wait for Birthdays and Xmas. I need to break this habit of buying Switch stuff Day 1. Got so much other stuff I can play across Retro gaming collection let alone my Switch backlog.
@Lroy It's price definitely has been hiked up everywhere.Game have it for Β£44.99 as well, while it's Β£29.99 on the other consoles. That's a joke! 365 games have it for Β£36.99.
Huh. I kinda wish I had preordered it at base now as they keep your preorder price locked in even if it end up going higher for some reason.
Yeah, Β£45 is too much for me there. Looks like Capcom just getting greedy again and when it doesn't sell, they can point to it and say: see, that's why we're only releasing our games digitally in Europe.
They can p*** off.
On a completely different not, I've been playing a couple hours of Forza Horizon 3 now and time just flies by it seems. Such an incredible game!
One thing I need to learn though are the off road stuff. I just can't seem to wrap my head around driving through fences and stuff like that during races yet. Lol
It goes against everything any other game has thought me over the years.

So I've spent the last hour or so playing a few retro games on past hardware. I played IKARUGA on GameCube since that was recently mooted for a possible Switch release. The colour changing and charging mechanic is so cool in that game. Makes it like a puzzle shooter. Very tough but rewarding of your increasing skill with the gameplay system.
Also been playing the NAMCO 50TH ANNIVERSARY collection. Again, the GameCube release. Man, the arcade cabs as the game selection screen is great. Wish more arcade collections on modern systems would have this but with higher definition. Also, the amount of games included really puts the NAMCO MUSEUM on Switch to shame. I mean why the hell couldn't NAMCO put XEVIOUS and BOSCONIAN on the Switch collection? These two are classic shooters which still offer great gameplay today.
Is there a rights issue or something? Does anyone think we might get these hugely important classic arcade shoot-em-ups in the future on Switch?
Saw a tweet claiming Psyvariar Delta will be released by eastasiasoft and they replied by saying they have 4 more shmups planned with unannounced stuff. Can't put my hand on the twit tho. Sorry. But I think these guys do physical games.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@GrailUK Hopefully one of those will be Soldner X2 - Final Prototype,I'd never heard of it before it until I searched for EastAsiasoft 5 minutes ago but it looks superb.IGN awarded it 85%. They're the same publishers who released Dimension Drive. I think you have that?
@OorWullie Soldner isn't a bad game by any means, but it's the definition of a Euro-shmup, so it's definitely an acquired taste, that's for sure.
Then again, the more the merrier.
