I'm of the view that it's not too soon but not enough has been shown off yet to distinguish it from Splatoon 2 which gives the perception that adding the content to Splatoon 2 instead would've been more fitting. That said, I imagine once the inevitable Splatoon 3 Direct happens it being a sequel will make more sense.
Imagine they add another 23 new and returning(in total) maps to Splatoon 2. Good luck playing one of those maps with the current rotation cycle.
One the one hand, it's been at least 5 years since Splat2 hit the scene. On the other hand, will there be enough new content in Splat3 to justify its existence?
...Yeah honestly the sequel looked mostly the same to me, and the one mode that looked interesting to me (since it was a co-op mode) was apparently time limited. Like, you could only play on certain days or times....
I just want more co-op modes, not a big fan of multiplayer games in general unless they have co-op, mainly the PvE setup like what Salmon Run does. lol
That was the sequel...no idea about the newer sequel...if they do time-limited crap again then, no thanks. But yeah, it still looks mostly the same to me...

I dunno if they've adjusted this since launch but it seems really an exaggerated issue since like 9/10 times I've turned on Splatoon 2 that mode was available.
I don't think it's too early for a Splatoon 3, but I think the Splatoon 3 that I'm seeing is too similar to Splatoon 2, and given how far into the Switch lifespan we are, I'm expecting the Splatoon hardcore to lap it up but it not to sell as well as Splatoon 2 amongst the more casual players.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@TommyTendo I mean no one is against its time framed release, that's what big corporations do after a successful game. The game so far does not justify its release for me. It feels the same. You have millions still playing online on S2 and having S3 coming out on the same console will split users easily.
Transitioning to a new separate game might turn into a "I prefer Melee over Brawl" situation. Unless they shut down the S2 servers to force over the crowd into the new game. The Fortnite Ninjala approach is what's best for this franchise.
If there going the COD route when it comes to releasing separately, this could be disappointing and manipulative.
@Vivianeat
Right, becuse relesing a sequel over 5 years later is just like CoD and manipulative. lol
You know CoD is, sorry - was a yearly release. And even so. Doesn't mean the games are necessarily bad. Only a cash cow for Activision.
For anyone that thinks it looks too much the same, what would you change? I mean. It has everything a sequel needs. It's not a story driven single player game like Xenoblade or Fire Emblem where the story is the main part of the game that mekes it different. It is mainly a multiplayer game.
If you are looking for something new and not a sequel, you probably have to wait for a spin-off or reboot.
I'd love for them to release new games more often.
I usually get bored/burnt out of the game after a while, and it's much easier to get back into a new entry than to come back to an old game.
@Budda I mean ya. If nothing about the game has changed in 5 years, its a sign Nintendo is beginning to milk it at this point. If only custom eyebrows, new maps, new weapons, and unused Salmon Run enemies satisfies you, then go hard. I've only been playing 2 since 2020 and I can see a ton of stuff they can do to keep this fresh. 5 years is enough time to create a fresher game. Nintendo needs users to get off S2 to get S3 going. No way Nintendo will cut S2 servers.
Just some stuff I think they should experiment with in S3.
Using/switching between 2 main weapons (1 assault + 1 hand-gun archetype)
Advanced weapon customization (Maybe like MGS5 or even more advanced with RPG elements)
Advanced visual customization (changing colors on everything you wear)
A custom venue/base to see your spoils and rewards like an apartment or dorm
Unlocking rewards like decorations for your base or parts for your weapon
Custom match rules (SSBU for example or combining modes in regular battles)
Boss rush mode co-op
Online story co-op
Viewing previous matches
1 on 1 arena (basically regular battle but 1 v 1 on a smaller stage)
A closet to bookmark your favorite clothing gear (for organization)
Nintendo shirts you can buy irl but are also gear in game
Legacy content (weapons from other Nintendo games used as Splatoon weapons)
Special costumes (would love to suit up my avatar as Zero Suit Samus)
Better training mode (would love to fight ghosts of myself or other players)
If anything I think it's taken them too long for a new entry it's been 5+? Years since splat 2 came out this is a crazy amount of time between games for a shooter most games get a new release every 1-2 years

Refining the chat
You complained that they're being too alike with cod yet your way of them " improving" 3 is to make it more like cod
@Jrpglover I've never played COD before but if this is what they do to keep players buying then I'm down to play but this is Splatoon, it does not need anymore separate games over and over from here on out. These suggestions are things my friends talk about when playing Splatoon 2 and would like to see experimented on, and ya so far S3 is S2 with extra animations and unused story assets from their vault. Its important to b heavily critical about these sequels because they want our money again.
They need to shut down S2 servers in order for a lot to transition over, till then I'll wait until everything has been released for it. I did not mean to offend you, sorry if anything I said made u angry or defensive.
