Mizuki was genuinely my favorite character out of the first game so seeing a game about her that retains her most important qualities (absurdly strong) (attachment to iris) (respect for the LGBTQ community) (lead pipe) has me super hyped and excited! Let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice! I still have to finish the first one (i have no free time) but I will get the standard edition of this.

The first game was a top-tier vn experience. I'll be on board for this. Also, the super-duper uber edition is up early on AmazonNA. You know how these collector editions usually disappear instantly. So place an order now before it's gone. Amazon doesn't charge your credit card until it ships, so you have a year between now and when the game releases if you change your mind and opt for the standard edition or something.

I always pre-order immediately via store CC. Order first, think later. Can always cancel. But if you decide you want it after it sells out, you're outta luck.

I just finished this game last night, thought it was great! Definitely met my expectations after playing the first game, even succeeded I’d say. Like the first game this one still has some moments that are cringy, but if you can get past that it’s a great story.
Comparing it to the first game, I think the somniums are much better this time around. Each one feels much more distinct, they have more varied mechanics to keep things interesting, and it feels like there’s less randomness with how you interact with objects to progress through the somnium. Some of the later ones especially I really enjoyed, and there’s a post-game bonus somnium I’d recommend to any fan of Zero Escape.
The story and plot twists were nice, I’d say at least on par with the first game. There’s much less branching paths in this game, but it makes sense when you look at the big plot twist. I did miss being able to make decisions throughout the game to get branching paths (I think there’s only twice in this game where you actually have the freedom of what path you want to take) so the story does feel much more linear, but at least it sets itself apart from the first game a bit and the satisfaction of figuring out you’re actually alternating between the present and past with each day more than made up for it.
It always impresses me how much thought and planning goes into these games to make plot twists like this work, and I felt like they added just the right number of clues to make the player catch on more as the story goes on, but keep them in the dark for as long as possible. As I was playing through the game, I kept wondering why the chapter would constantly change as soon as a new day started, especially the characters were still in the middle of an event, like when Mizuki and Lien went underground in Horadori Institutes. I think the moment it really clicked for me was when Shoma mentioned he gave a gift to his father a year ago, when it was supposed to be in the “present” where his father has been dead for 6 years. They did a good job at strategically not showing some characters on certain days while still not making the story feel awkward too.
Finished the game perfectly on time too, now I can move onto Xenoblade Chronicles 3!
