I have an aftermarket dock and a pure Nintendo charger cable cord. It was already docked and I undocked it to put my joy cons on and when I re docked it my switch wouldn’t come on. I was able to get it on by doing a hard reset. Was wondering did I in any way hurt the switch? Thanks,

Yes, @Ap4u06, let me share my nerdiness with you 🤔. First off, Nintendo Support site is a good resource. (if you know disregard.)
I don't think you did anything bad to your switch.😉
There are a few issues in Nintendo Support that are solved by resetting your Nintendo brand AC adapter plug. Such as: "no image" on tv, switch won't wake, and a couple others. But since rebooting solved your issue, there's no need to do anything more. But if you run into a similar issue again, it may just need resetting the ac adapter.
If you have issues with your third party dock, it may be good to try with the original Nintendo charger & dock. In the beginning, Nintendo didn't play nice nice with third party docks, and had some compatibility issues, but i haven't heard of people having issues in the past year or two.
@Ap4u06 Yeah, it just seems to be a harmless, rare glitch. You probably won't see again. I speculate that it may be more likely to happen if you put the switch to sleep with a game open, but that's just a theory. I usually close games and power down the console, and it's never failed to turn on.

Did your Switch not come with OEM Dock and why did you not use that one first? You should see if the aftermarket Dock is rated for your OEM Dock power plug that could also be problem if it is underrated for it.
