If I'm being honest, I'm really glad Pokken is coming to the Switch and not a sequel to two underwhelming games.

Let me do that nice voice of reason thing I do when a game isn't pretending to be a Mario RPG and provide some context. May I present to you the Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire announcement trailer:

This game let players revisit one of the series' most vibrant locales with 20 cool new mega forms and a legendary recapturing mechanic that finally made it feasible to complete the Pokedex in the sixth generation.

I can't really say what that listing means without knowing whether it's from a retailer site or Nintendo official. The reason I think The Pokemon Company hasn't announced anything mainline for Switch yet is that they don't consider the platform to have a large enough install base yet. The announcement so close to E3 was probably to avoid cannibalizing ongoing Sun and Moon sales as much as possible.

We'll see more about the Ultra versions — an admittedly lazy-feeling title variant — at E3. And with Pokken DX announced for Switch (all of this is releasing this year even) Pokemon has indicated that the series will be coming to Switch, and you will be able to play a hybrid console Pokemon before too long (as if there were any other next gen handhelds it could have possibly moved onto).

When did the online gaming audience get this reactionary? Consoles play out over years, not months. You'll get your Switch Pokemon game in 2018/19 regardless of whether you yell in the mean time.

Haw haw, low expectations for human beings. There's Internet and there's 'Yell Box.'

I truly believe that we can use the powers of viciously mocky and social pariah to coerce participants in the later to heed the most basic facts and use their indoor voices. You don't have to be interested in Ultra at all, just don't suddenly cry doom on the selling Switch or a thoroughly buisness-as-usual Pokemon. Seriously, updated versions and threadbare reveal trailers are right below Pikachu and 'rain' in terms of things to expect. It's literally the exact same thing as Black and White, just without a number.

Oh so it's like a 3DS? Good I already have two of those.

I wouldn't call it reactionary either - many of us have been waiting for a mainline Pokémon game on a 'home console' since the late 90's! ..seems like the franchise would be a perfect fit for the Switch - to everyone but The Pokémon Company/Game Freak that is! "boo! hiss!" **pitchforks** "grrr!"

So I was off to work today, and I just caught up with the news. I face-palmed three times, but it's good to know I wasn't alone in doing that. I always knew there was something fishy going on when Pokken on the Wii U didn't get any of the DLC...

Gen 2 VC, awesome, but on a system I don't own, and it's not coming to the system I'm planning on getting...

Ultra Sun and Moon... Yeah, nevermind...

I'm super glad Pokkén is getting another chance. With Nintendo taking so long to release it outside Japan and then not bothering with DLC, it really seemed like they had no faith in it. It's a great game with a lot of potential, and it's a relief to see it won't be left to an early grave after all.

Also they announced some other stuff I guess. Whatever.

Pokken is the only Pokemon game that gets me interested nowadays, so that's fine for me. Even looks like you'll be able to fight with a rotating party, King Of Fighters style. And new characters aside, it'll be neat to see the balance changes Wii U never got as well.

@Pigeon You're saying you don't expect Smash soon while also saying why you wouldn't have expected Pokkén this soon. Nintendo don't seem to be following that sort of logic. Heck, I could counter that right now they seem interested in putting out as many online games as possible.
