Surprised nobody has created a thread for this given how popular it is dominating the eShop charts after it shadow dropped.
I beat Tomb Raider reboot on PS4 back when the system launched. It was my 1st game for it and I loved it. Been saying this game should come to NSW for the better part of a decade. Never understood why it didn't- it released on Xbox 360 after all. And yet here it is, with a 4k 60fps version for NSW2 with mouse aiming!
And I'm just as hooked now as I was 12 years ago. That tomb with the electrified water I just completed... that was a good one. Almost fully upgraded at this point, just need to get a bow upgrade to pull down more powerful roped boards the normal move can't handle.
What a great game. Great visuals and performance (even the PS4 version on PS5 Pro doesn't hold a stable 60fps- I saw a video where it dropped to 52, so I appreciate this version locking it down), great gameplay especially with mouse aiming (swap L3 and R3 when using mouse, it's too hard to zoom in with R3 when holding in mouse mode and holding ZR to aim the shot), great tomb puzzles and environmental exploration and platforming, great characters and well voice acted dialog, light metroidvania design to backtrack after gaining upgrades to access previously blocked off areas... it really does it all.

It holds up extremely well today and narrative linear experiences like this are rare now. I love this game and it’s great to have it on Switch 2, particularly playing portable. I hope the visuals are improved with a patch, though, especially GI. Nothing that is very noticeable when playing, but if you compare to other versions, it feels like a lazy port in this area.
Also, I’m feeling a lot of motion sickness in long sessions. I don’t recall feeling this bad back then, maybe it’s just me getting older, but the camera makes me feel like throwing up… Had to take a break in the village section.
This game has held up incredibly well. It’s even better than I remember, and it has as great when I played it a decade ago. I hope this will be the start of other games being ported to the console—Rise of the Tomb Raider is an exceptional game, in my opinion, and I’d love to play it portably.
Great game! Never played it before and finished it just a couple of hours ago. Played it in handheld and for that the visuals and rock solid performance were perfect. Hopefully we get the second one quite soon.
The Digital Foundry analysis shows graphics downgraded from PS4 and even in many areas downgraded from PS3. Seems like an afternoon's port for pocket change profits. Typically such games don't sell well but at this lower price point perhaps it will do much better and of course it doesn't look like they have spent much time converting it. Graphics are a long way behind PS4 and with the PS4 Pro the frame rate is stable at 60fps so generally a big upgrade on Switch 2. I think this is the situation going forward, conversions that are not optimised for the Switch 2 hardware sadly because they know the sales won't justify that investment. For us older gamers this is an old game that we played many years ago and not much reason to re-visit it and if we wanted to we might already own it. I have it on steam and I think I paid £2-3 and then got it free with the epic game giveaway a few years ago so own it twice on pc. I think I also own it on PS3, PS4 and Xbox 360. However I've played it mostly on PC and some of the time in 3D as I have a 3D TV and there were 3D utilities that supported 3D for this game. The PS3 version has a fantastic quality 7.1 soundtrack. The word that comes to mind with the Switch and Switch 2 versions is 'un-necessary'. Also I'm curious how the Nvidia Shield version stacks up with the Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions as the hardware is basically the same as the original Switch but with faster clocks and with an android operating system. I wonder if that version is stronger or weaker than the Switch version.
