If the Switch 2 isn't compatible with all of the games and we do a transfer to Switch 2, can we transfer back or are we just out of luck? I'd hate to transfer everything and then lose a lot of digital purchases that I can no longer play, we are going to know that most games are 100% compatible until we play them

I would assume that both systems would still work if you keep your Switch 1.

I see where Nintendo says it leaves your save files on the old switch but it says for the digital purchases that it moves the digital license during the transfer, it doesn’t say it leaves it on the old. That would suck to just have games that don’t work and be stuck with that

Where are you reading this stuff at? You can move all the data over. When you transfer Digital license it moves it over why would it keep it on the Switch 1 for. So cite where your getting this info from?

If the digital license moves to the switch 2 and you find that your games don’t work on the switch 2 I would like to transfer the game back to the old switch so I can play it, if you can’t do that then who wants to risk transferring digital games

I have lots of digital games and do t want to throw away thousands of dollars for an oops… doesn’t work on switch 2 and then I can’t transfer back

@stevep I'm guessing they'll make that easy. You can already play digital games on two different Switches so it doesn't seem all that different. At least if you have NSO/cloudsave.

If it’s like the Wii or Wii U then it’s a one way trip.

It depends if they allow you to have your Switch 2 as your ‘main system’ with your OG Switch as a secondary system, that needs internet access to work.

‘You swapped three different N64 games for Pokemon Stadium? Where’s your pride? Your dignity?!?

‘…I traded it for a Pikachu’

I think that's pretty guaranteed since Nintendo specifically says you can play a digital game on both Switch 1 and Switch 2 even after upgrading the game to a Switch 2 version. Honestly, they say transferring is just redownloading the game and copying save data so I doubt anything is even slightly one-way except for the few games which don't allow normal cloud save (e.g. animal crossing, pokemon)
