Yousef-

Alright, so there’s a lot of things I’d love to see remain and see change and see brought back. For one, let’s not beat around the bush. The “Greatest Hits” program NEEDS some some sort of comeback. We NEED legacy titles to drop to 20 bucks eventually. Yeah yeah, the “Greatest Hits” label did look a little ugly on some ps4 titles but that’s not the point.

The biggest gripe both me and my friends had is how every switch 1st party game almost permanently stays 60 dollars. No sales even. With extremely rare exceptions. Even physically. The last console that had that program was…. Wii? Correct me if I’m wrong. But yeah it’s baffling we went an entire generation with Nintendo getting away with this. Heck, Microsoft never did this and I wouldn’t necessarily call them “generous” per se. Actually if you wanna be even more technical, ps5 literally gave you a free PS Plus library that was only RECENTLY discontinued. So Sony are still being “generous”.

Now that my largest gripe is out of the way, I wanna discuss the smaller things.

I believe backwards compatibility is almost a given. So there’s hopefully no need to worry about that.

Thing is, even if I don’t play on my switch much anymore, I would still like to continue collecting physically for it. For whatever reason, it just feels “more organized”, for the lack of a better word. And more reliable, in away. I also tend to prefer their box arts in some cases, and their bonuses like maps and whatnot.

I also hope some serious improvements are implemented, such as games like xenoblade not going out of print as easily.

Lastly, I do wanna leave my code here: SW-7391-1388-5607

It’s not on my profile because I’m lazy but I will eventually accept ALL friend requests that are sent to me. Just not immediately because I do not touch my switch all that often anymore.

My plans for my next physical purchases are gonna be the two mainline fire emblems. After that, I’ll think about it.

With Switch games going up to 4k resolution, I'm not optimistic about physical releases on Nintendo's next platform. Publishers were already squeamish about using 32GB cartridges. Anything above that seems out of bounds. 64GB cartridges were allegedly available but never used, not even by Nintendo themselves.

Black Ops 6's file size is 309GBs. Figure that'll be a digital-only release on every platform. Another disk that's little more than a launcher.

@Yousef-
Nintendo selects was a thing also on 3ds and wii u though some games were only released on certain regions.

This feels like another Switch 2 thread. Jussayin.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@Magician : The 64GB carts were only ever rumoured. No release using such a cartridge has ever surfaced.
I can't even think of any 32GB cart releases since Tears of the Kingdom, which allegedly used a larger cart having just creeped past the 16GB threshold (the eShop currently displays 16.3GB, though the pre-launch size was a little over 18GB, from memory).

I'm not sure what size cart was used for DOOM Eternal, but it's very likely to have been 32GB. The base game was about 18GB at launch, and the base game is fully playable from the cart (I always skip the update as that would require a 15GB(ish) download for content that I wouldn't be able to access anyway). I wish it had been a complete release with the DLC included, whatever it may have cost (it makes more sense to spend more money on a higher capacity cartridge than the junk they usually throw in to justify their ridiculous mark-ups).

We might get a better release (and build of the game) come the Switch 2. I'm just annoyed that the latest DOOM games aren't available on GOG yet. The new Wolfensteins are already on there (minus Youngblood).

I'm expecting the Switch 2's developers will be begging for things such as bigger cartridges, but a lot of developers weren't keen on doing 32GB in this generation.
So many developers are spending extra time and money working on a Switch version, or outsourcing a port. I understand that the margins will already be tight and paying for a 32GB cartridge is another expense.

If they're spending all of that extra money for what could be the "worst" version...I see why they skip physical releases. Or include huge downloads.
I'd like them to commit if they're going to bother at all, but I'm sure it's up to their boss and the devs are doing their jobs.

As for Nintendo, I expect no differences.
People buy their first party games - at full price - throughout the consoles lifespan. And they're great at keeping file sizes small. So it depends how much they want to please third parties.

Direct is tomorrow. Praying switch 2 will keep physical gaming a priority 🙏

The games come released as 4k60fps with DLSS and use 3D nand storage for bigger games but that would mean the slot would be akin to 3DS XL vs New 3DS XL consoles where it one only fits the newer 3DS slot but not in reverse. That's what I see Nintendo doing if they want a full game launch minus Day One updates or DLC upgrades. This would increase sales if one wants 4K games they would have to buy Switch 2 but still be able to play standard Carts in Switch 2 with downloaded updates to graphics and gameplay when playing on Switch 2 but if one has NSO it would seamlessly switch knowing which system they are using so they can still enjoy on older Switch and jump to Switch 2 and play without glitches.

Whatever Nintendo charges 3rd party publishers for the 8gb carts should be what they start charging for the 32gb carts. They won't do this, but they really should. 64gb needs to be made available too. I doubt they'll make a 128 version, but hope that's an option as well.

@judaspete I think if they should use the 3D nand chipset then they can lower the cost and have higher storage for bigger games.

@judaspete : 128GB would be fantastic, but let's not kid ourselves. 128GB exceeds the maximum capacity of 4K discs on rival hardware, which come in 66GB and 100GB capacities, and similarly, movie companies try to avoid using 100GB discs where they can get away with it.

I’m actually starting to feel that this switch 2 is all hype. Until we actually see physical evidence I don’t know what to think.

@Atomic77 It's just clicks and engagement at the moment. There is nothing to think because we haven't seen it (or indeed, more importantly, any games) yet. Hope that restores normality lol.

Seeing 64g 3Dnand Switch games would be a game changer here. Plus if holds true the cost of 3Dnand carts would be cheaper thus letting more big games come on 64g 3D carts would be good to have.

wish they would release a console again and have the switch as complementary. release main console & then do the switch how xbox did the series S or something. Also backwards compatibility needs to come back.

I just hope this thing whatever it turns out to be is backwards compatible with all switch games. And is well worth the price .

That's the elephant in the room Nintendo for whatever reason can't even confirm the BC this is a major turning point and they need to address this. And for them to say BC with Switch 2 isn't the end all for anyone wanting to buy Switch 2. I am not sure what they are so afraid for since Switch 2 will be the next console regardless as there isn't another Switch 2A version coming anytime after Switch 2 release.

If it's not BC I'll be buying a Steamdeck when my Switch dies.
