More information about Pokopia is making me so excited about it... seems like it will have some story??? I think??? Gosh... They need to give more trailers omg aaaa
It runs at 60 fps in performance mode with no latency for mouse or gyro aiming, and has a locked 30 fps graphics mode. And the only really noticeable difference is draw distance, for the most part.
Skyrim on Switch 2 just transformed from being the worst version of the game to the best. Locked 60 fps without latency while still looking good visually with both gyro and mouse aiming on a hybrid handheld system?
This gives me hope for Fallout 4 and Oblivion Remastered.

The "Wii U was great" lines make perfect sense - it came out in late 2012. The generation who were around 10 years old at the time are in their 20's now. Nothing is ever as good as it was when you were a child!
That said - it was always a console full of great and inventive games if you ignored the negative noise around the system and avoided comparing it to the PS4 while focusing on what it couldn't do. It had a clear identity as a console. There's a reason why it will always be a cult classic console - just like the Dreamcast and the GameCube (both consoles which also failed commercially). The ripest fruits from the Wii U have long been harvested for the Switch though so it's not necessarily worth revisiting for most people.
@darkfenrir, I would like to know who is responsible for the usual localization of Pokémon games. Something that I heard about of the Legends Z-A localization really bugged me, so I want to know who caused it.
My top 5 favorite games:
1: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
2: Pokémon Violet
3: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4: The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (2019)

@Nep-Nep-Freak it's probably TPC themselves? Checking the credit list, if they are even listed is probs better idea...
If it's concerning a possible wrong translation, I think it's likely to be an error (iirc there's a dialogue that was datamined that didn't pop up and the characters instead used another sentence that had been said. I forgot what exactly the issue was, but that happened)
@BentIeyma
I used to have a GameGear. Even had the massive magnifying attachment for the screen. The audio quality on that thing was abysmal. The "zing" from Sonic's spin dash in Triple Trouble still makes the hairs on my neck stand on end thinking about it.
I have Yakuza Kiwami 3 also and ya, it's kinda crazy to think about. Sitting plush with our 3D audio and high end visuals with kickstand, dock and modular controllers... we're so spoiled.

@BentIeyma For those of us who had the original Game Boy back then, Game Gear was high tech. It had colours and everything, not just shades of green. 😁
But yeah, the first and only Nintendo console I had as a kid was the black & white Game Boy in the early '90s. Then I didn't own any kind of console until I bought the Switch 25+ years later, so it was definitely amazing to see how far handheld gaming had gone during those years.
The story goes that Nintendo had a look at the screen used in the GameGear as a candidate for the GameBoy, but rejected it because it would have meant a much shorter battery life.
They were already concerned about it being a lot shorter than the Game & Watch handhelds, where you'd only have to change them about once a year, so something that might only last a couple of hours was right out. It was a very different era to today; your chance of finding a power socket to charge with while out and about was slim, and rechargeable batteries were very expensive and with only small capacities. Being able to last a few days before recharging made a huge difference.
I'm a huge sucker for long battery life in handhelds. So Switch 2, which typically gets 3 hours (sometimes even 2.5 hrs for big AAA games), is my most disliked aspect. Thankfully, there are solutions to battery life if you're slick.
Genki portable magnetic battery with an ultra thin magnetic ring adhered to the back of the Switch 2, solves the issue offering 6+ hours total playtime without making the system feeling too heavy (it's in the ballpark of the original Steamdeck total weight when the battery is attached).
I find portable batteries a hassle if you have to set them down and run a long cable into them (though that's still a valid approach) but if they're lightweight and magnetically snap on the back with a right angle USB-C always coming out of it ready to plug into the system, they're fantastic.
Even slapped magnetic rings on the back of my modded Switch OLED (used scissors to cut the ring into 2 halves to accomodate the hinge of the NS2, so the kickstand can still flip out, but when shut the two half-rings connect to form a circle for the battery to snap onto), and on my custom Switch Lite OLED.
Can't recommend that Genki portable magnetic battery enough. Only issue is it's like $80. But it's 30W with Power Delivery, a mini OLED display and is lighter than other 10,000 mAh (38.5 Watt-hours) batteries.

You couldn't charge the original Game Boy from a power socket at all, it only worked with AA batteries. You could get rechargeable AA batteries, but like you mention, they were quite expensive and didn't last nearly as long as regular ones. So Nintendo definitely made the right choice, it would've sucked if you'd needed to change the batteries of the Game Boy all the time.
As a kid I didn't know or care about any of this though, so I was still envious of those fancier handheld consoles with their colour displays.
I know the discussion is mostly about Game Gear, but the Switch 2's battery life came up so I thought I'd mention my thoughts on that.
My gaming sessions typically don't last much longer than 2 hours unless I am truly engrossed in a game and have the time to spend. When those play sessions do go a bit above, the Switch 2's battery life can be a bit annoying. One time this came up was when I was playing Kirby and the Forgotten Land Switch 2 Edition and I was trying to 100% one area per play session. That got me razor close to the end but often not enough to avoid scrambling for a charger. I wish the Switch 2 just had 30 minutes to an hour of more battery life. I don't really want to mess with adding additional batteries or really modifying my console at all (besides I have no need for 6+ hours of battery anyway and don't need the added bulk) so that's just a little annoyance I have to deal with occasionally.
"well it appears I am upside down. what ever will I do?"

Yea, I was a GameBoy kid - still my favorite console, and I still buy games for it. Finishing up Donkey Kong Land III right now, actually.
But my cousin had a GameGear. Honestly, it was pretty cool, but it needed a million batteries and only ran for a couple hours. The tradeoff just wasn't worth it for a handful of neat games on it. I remember the Sonic game was amazing at the time.
