Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is one of the best games in the series. You know how long I've waited for a hybrid handheld version with save states? Too long.

I'm super excited for Path of Radiance, as I've never been able to play it (outside of unofficial emulation, which I'm not a huge fan of) and only hear good things.

And yeah, Dragon Quest, Yakuza Kiwami 3, Monster Hunter Stories 3, etc. all coming out in the next few months?

There's not enough time in the day for all these games.

Currently Playing: Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition

One thing I do wonder from a commercial success perspective. How does this track in terms of Nintendo's overall sales figures? Where are those Western holiday sales going to? What's different about the landscape? Because it doesn't seem like Sony/MS is doing particularly well either

Because someone in 2017 looking for a family gaming console to get little Timmy for Christmas is undoubtedly getting a Switch. Because the Wii U was dead and the 3DS isn't something the family can enjoy. But in 2025 the new Pokemon is also on Switch, why get a Switch 2? And as long as people are still buying games I don't think that really matters to Nintendo either

The other possibility, and this seems more likely the case, is that the gaming industry in general is in a bit of a slow period. Especially in NA. And that the Switch 2 is doing a serviceable job fighting against the tide. Possibly

I don't have the data to back either hypothesis up though, just pontificating

Edit: it seems the source of this data is someone extrapolating December sales from November's numbers. So buckets of salt

Also on the amount of numbers we really need to like, wait for the full numbers to get out so I feel it's always best to wait imo.

Like all these talks aren't that useful until we have the concrete number

True enough.

I just wanted to demonstrate that even in a worse case scenario, it's still a non-story. Well, the overall decrease in spending across the board is noteworthy, but nothing about NS2 specifically given even at worst, performance is precisely on track for their FY target.

Can a video game website like, hire me for statistical analysis or something? Not one of these sites/influencers have the skill or interest in providing statistical context, or with respect to goals meeting their end of FY targets.

Wouldn't NintendoLife articles be better with such graphs and analyses to really break things down?

@JaxonH True true. Also you probably can try to apply as freelance in some video game website yeah, feels like you probably can try throwing out feelers and such to them

Yall, I'm heartbroken. My plan was to get a bunch of money from Christmas and my birthday (which is a few days before Christmas) to get my Switch 2. Three of my car's tires needed to be changed, so now life has prevented me from getting my console. I had my GameCube controller and my memory card, and now they'll sit there collecting dust!

But on the bright side, I wouldn't have had time to play a lot of it. Probably going to save up between now and May for it (and do some pre-purchasing before it). As a teacher it'll be a great way to spend the summer. And I have too much of a backlog anyway.

@ElRoberico - good thing you were saving up and able to cover the tires! The SW2 will be here for a long time, and come summer time, you'll have time to catch up on the SW2 games

It's a bummer though, not being able to pick it up.

@Lazz Yeah, it is what it is. One is definitely more important.

Well that's disappointing. Larian's CEO has said Baldur's Gate 3 isn't coming to Switch 2, and that it "wasn't their decision to make."

Seems like it's an issue with the IP holder (Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast).

@JaxonH - I've yet to pick up an HD 2D RPG, not sure why, but those screenshots from Dragon Quest VII Reimagined look incredible

Life happens. You'll get it eventually.

And, you can always sell something. I sold my Vita, all my Vita games, all my PS4, PS5, X1 and XS games, and my entire NS1 physical collection.

Heck even a 3DS XL can cover half the cost of a NS2.

On the bright side, they said they'll definitely be considering Switch 2 for Divinity Original Sin 3.

If there's one HD-2D game I'd recommend you play, it's Triangle Strategy. Octopath Traveler II is also highly recommended. Octopath Traveler 0 is also good but I'd go with OT2 before OT0. And while all 3 DQ HD-2D entries are great, I think DQ7 Reimagined is a far better experience.

Basically, DQ7 Reimagined and Triangle Strategy are the ones I'd focus on. Triangle Strategy is basically HD-2D Fire Emblem, with a high quality story similar to the older FE entries.

@IceClimbers I can almost guarantee its Hasbro. They have been a cancer for D&D since they got it and causing its slow death. They are more interested in the IP so the can license it for t-shirts, and coffee mugs and ***** TV shows that rather insult its fanbase. Seriously last year I watched their stream of what's new for D&D and they spent 90% of the time talking about D&D stuffed animals coming out and t-shirts. Then at they very end really quick they said oh yeah we have some books coming out too. No mentions of the books or anything. They have zero interest in it which is sad. In my opinion someone needs to get that license from them before they destroy it, if they havent already. Their lack of attention to D&D itself is one of the main reasons I moved on to Daggerheart.

My theory is that the upper management at Hasbro resent the hell out of Wizards of the Coast. They bought WotC because this "Magic" cardgame was the hot new thing and they wanted to profit from it, but they didn't respect a company full of weird nerd games for weird nerds, as opposed to "proper" toys. And as time passed and WotC turned into more and more the main profit center of Hasbro, instead of granting them more respect and "insider status" befitting an organization bringing tons of money to them for decades? They hated them, more and more, for daring to be more important than "their" divisions.

Net result? Hasbro management doesn't respect D&D, they just want to drain it of any cash they can. They might even want D&D to fail, on some level.

Definitely, the 3DS costs way more used than it has any right to. It's at the point now where it probably makes more sense to get a dual-screen Android portable and emulate if you want to get into 3DS. Insanity

I deeply regret not picking up a clearance New 2DS to replace my heavily worn out XL early in the life of the Switch

Anyone up for Split Fiction? I'm playing Fire Emblem Path of Radiance but I'd be game for a half hour or so of co-op.

Ooh. It would be really cool to play Fire Emblem Path of Radiance over Gamechat at the same time, strategizing together and helping each other as you play the same maps. More ppl need to experience GameChat with screen sharing. I watched Kaz play some Fire Emblem Sacred Stones last week and just maximized his screen, set the controller down and observed. It's such a neat feature.

@skywake
Did you ever get a New 3DS or New 3DS XL?

I have both, and I must say, I prefer the smaller New 3DS. Few reasons why.

1) Smaller screen = higher pixel density. Games look better

2) Smaller screen = better glasses-free 3D effect, as the larger the screen is the more the popped image can screw up.

3) More portable and pocketable.

4) Swappable faceplates

Bonus: Using a 3rd party extendable stylus that collapses to normal size to slide into its storage slot but extend to be twice as long when using is a must.

I also soft-modded my New 3DS and dumped my entire physical game digitally, and overclock the RAM. And injected English-translated versions of all 6 JP-exclusive Fire Emblems 1-6 into Virtual Console shells so they look identical to the ones purchased but have them in English.

Then dumped my DS collection digitally onto another mSD inserted into an R4 card and keep that in the game slot so I have my full DS/3DS collection digitally. Including the English translated JP-exclusive DS game Shadow Dragon aka FE12, the predecessor to Awakening, and the first to introduce casual mode.

Also installed RedViper Virtual Boy emulator so it shows as its own icon, and has all 23 released games for the system playable in glasses-free 3D. It's so dope.
