Guess I'll ask here, been wanting to get a game on the Switch/2 during the sale. Been thinking either Pizza Tower or Antonblast.
I bought Pizza Tower on Steam a while back but after playing to the first boss I kinda stopped. The controls just weren't doing it for me, dunno if this was because I was using a Switch Pro Controller on a Steam game or what, maybe buying it on Switch itself would fix that?
Antonblast also interested me, I think it's supposed to be slower-paced compared to Pizza Tower? I know there's a demo, I'll try it out eventually, but...yeah, not sure what to go for. All I do know really is that both games are based on a couple of Wario Land games, so yeah, I know they both have that "Race to the beginning of the level to finish it" thing. xD

I was disappointed with Pizza Tower too. Nothing against it's weird funky and crude MSPaint-like visual style, but the controls & character mechanics were a little unweidly, confusing and complicated.
It's no Wario Land Shake it!(Aka WL5). That gem was an easy 10/10 when aiming for 100% Completion.
Also, WL1 is one of the greatest Nintendo platformers out there that just doesn't get enough recognition. Playing that one on a Super GameBoy on a good 27" Sony CRT is definitely the way to fly at this point, or an Analogue Super Nt on like a 42" OLED TV. And it's not even available on NSO GameBoy. It's wild, they instead opted for 2 & 3....2 was kind of decent, but 3? it felt like an absolute chore.
I'd say, Shake it!, 1 and to a lesser extent 4 are the cream of the 2D WL crop.
@Joeynator3000 Antonblast might be more your speed if Pizza Tower wasn't your bag. I'd give the demo a shot and before seeing if the full game does it for you.
"Now I have an obligation to tag along and clear the area if Luigi so much as glances at a stiletto."
Yeah, though demos aren't always the best sometimes, which was why I was still asking around. I did try it last night, though. Guess I'll just go with Anton then.
I was just wondering if Pizza Tower would control better for me on the Switch or if that's really how it controls....lol

Trials Rising – $3.99 (was $19.99)
Trials Rising is $3.99. Please hear me, for the sake of your own entertainment, this is one of the greatest video games I've ever played.
It starts out with Easy tracks. Fun, have a nice flow, allows you to do air time and flips while still getting Gold.
Then come the Medium tracks. These are extremely creative. More engaging than Easy but still nothing too tough to handle. Though it does start introducing leaning on inclines, shifting weight appropriately, etc.
Then come the Hard tracks. By this time your skills are honed, and you will be tested. Bunny hops, Endo bunny hops for flat obstacles, rear wheel bounce... you'll need to master these techniques.
Then, you come to Extreme tracks. These seem impossible at first. You'll try and fail over and over and over, but eventually, you overcome. And that feeling is unparalleled when you finally do.
And if you're good enough to claim Gold on all tracks, beating even the Extreme tracks, you'll unlock the Ninja Tracks. These were too much for me. I couldnt even beat Ninja Level 1. But everyone has their limit.
The game may feel too easy at first and too hard by the end. Everything in between is pure magic. The addictive part is the checkpoints after each series of obstacles, and instant restarts from last checkpoint if you crash, as well as instant restarts at will, either from last checkpoint or beginning.
Immortals Fenyx Rising is incredible but I only recommend playing docked. Unless you have a modded NS1 to output docked on the portable screen. Otherwise PC version is good as it also allows gyro aiming.
Trials Rising I already gushed about. Top 20 best game of all time, easy, and for less than a Big Mac.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is my favorite 2D metroidvania of all time. If you like Metroid, Ori, Hollow Knight, etc, you owe it to yourself to grab this game for pennies on the dollar. It's 🔥
Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope is, like Immortals Fenyx Rising, a spectacular game. 3 DLCs including Rayman expansion. A must-own at this price.
Rayman Legends I think most have played by now, but if you haven't, please do. It's up there with the best 2D platformers. Not as good as DKC Tropical Freeze (nothing is) but it's up there.
And all the rest are still solid games. Child of Lightis a good game. Assassin's Creed titles on offer are good games. Don't think I listed Valiant Hearts but those are good games. Southpark duology (we don't speak of the 3rd)- also good games.

It's fantastic. It actually looks a lot better on Switch 2 than you would think, especially handheld. It seems to scale perfectly to 1080p. I mean, you can tell its a Switch game, don't get me wrong. But it looks noticeably better than on Switch, thanks to the dynamic resolution not dropping.
As for the game, it's basically Ubisoft's Breath of the Wild. And it's a remarkable effort. Wouldn't say it's on that level, but it comes closer than it has any right to.

That's the thing. Like who really cares about anybody else's collection anyways? And because modern physical media is nowhere near as substantial, unique or eye catching as it used to be before the 2000's crept in, imo, I no longer really see most of it as art, or wanting it as part of my decor. But then, I'm already getting a little tired of the older stuff as well. That newness is long gone.
I always used to shout to the heavens "physical forever" in my 20's, but boy has that changed not even 15 years later. lol Another thing is, how much longer can one look at, and appreciate the same old retro collection they've had for almost, lets say, 2 decades? For many the thrill and excitment gradually fades over time, and you're essentially left with nostalgia trophies that just sit on a shelf. Magic is gone, you've already done it/experienced said game and you eventually just want change, opting for a simplier more convnient solution to replay it(MiSter, EverDrive etc) instead of it eating up your space. Or maybe You've grown tired of having a CRT on the side, and just want to opt for modern solutions like with the Analogue 3D consoles on a 4K TV etc.
John Riggs is in the same boat. He's not your typical video Game YouTuber that sits in front of multiple bookcases stashed full of old games. He throws them in a tub just like i do. He went on to mention this very thing stating "My video game collection doesn't define me or my worth. It shouldn' be about > look at how much stuff I have. It's about those feel good nostalgiac memories and experiences. Video games come and go, man"
I just want easy access to everything that I'm still interested in. I haven't messed with MiSter or Everdrive and probably never will because they're technically not legal. Discs go in Binders, and carts go in tubs to save space. I've got a 27" Sony WEGA CRT, which is the perfect size for everything before Dreamcast, and plan on getting more retro SD Consoles, and possibly even the Analogue Duo & recent 3D. Really need to get a Gcomp as well, which is basically a board with 8 Composite + Component cable ports that hook up to your SDTV, with zero additional latency. The best way to easily switch between consoles at the press of a button with no degradation of the image or additional lag. Pretty expensive though!
Anyways, I still love the retro side of the hobby, both authentic retro and modern retro(Think Analaogue consoles, RetroTINK4K Scalers and upcoming 240hz 4K TV's to go with for a more modern solution that i hope one day can match and beat a CRT). But i know these retro consoles, including the games will eventually come and go, I'll get tired of it. I'll come to a fork in the road. Switch things up, and move on to the next thing. I've never been much of a collector.
Back when people were scooping up retro games in the later 2000's, i was only picking up the odd retro title here and there, simply because i already knew that it would never be the same revisting my childhood favourites, and I didn't want any of that dominating the new experiences i could be making with new games on the Wii, including it's Virtual Console which was packed full of retro titles I had never played before which still equal to a first time experience on a console that was new and in the now, along with DS Lite and the upcoming 3DS.
That's great news. I hope it has the new, most recently updated control scheme of Pikmin 4, upgraded to UHD resolution at 60 frames, and I'll be just 🍑
Then Pikmin 4 can get a NS2 Edition later.
Speaking of Pikmin, that Alarmo with Pikmin theme has the most awesome hourly chime:
@WaveBoy Yep that's pretty much me in a nutshell. Nowadays its just more about convenience rather then trying to impress people. I dont even mess with things like Mister or older consoles that cant hook up to modern tvs unless you buy some expensive piece of equipment to get that old school look and feel. Its just not worth the time nor money for me to just play an old game for 30 minutes to an hour. Seriously I spend more time trying to get the thing to look and feel right then I do playing the game.
With that said, I do have an Analogue Mega SG and Super NT and a handful of cartridges of my favorite games that I like to play again every so often. No messing with heavy ass CRTs no having to spend hundred of dollars on a scaler to make a Super NES work on a modern TV no wasting time hunting down or dumping roms and getting them to work right. I just pop the cartridge in and play for an hour or so and I am good. In fact I just played Final Fight on my Super NT on Christmas day as per tradition for me and it did the job well enough.
I also do have a collection of the game collections of older games on modern consoles, like TMNT Cowabunga Collection, the Double Dragon Kunio Collection etc. But as you and I have discussed you gotta be careful with ones like the Mega Man Lagecy collections. Then of course I do have NSO as well so I am set with ways to play my older games.Granted the one thing I am missing is an NES clone like the AVS so I can play games like Batman on NES and a few others that wont come to a collection or online service due to various reasons.
Some of the magic in buying physical games is gone too and for me that's a bummer. Standing in line for a huge release like Zelda Ocarina of Time. Meeting other like minded people while waiting for midnight for the doors to open. Or even going to places like Toys R Us to get a game was magical. The way they had their game section set up, the signage, the displays, the demo units. Talking with the clerks about the latest release. Now places like Gamestop are just cold corporate places with no personality. The crew there dont know ***** about games they just want to preorder the latest Madden and even the stores are more like a toy/collectable store then a video game store. My local Gamestop has a all PS5, Switch, Switch 2 and Xbox games crammed in one corner and the rest of the store is full of Funko Pops, t-shirts and other crap. Seriously like 10% of the store is games and the other 90% is non games.
Then don't get me started with places like Walmart. Buying a game from them is such a hassel. It takes literally 30 to 40 minutes for them to find the key to the display case not to mention having to deal with the crowd of people buying there groceries, tires, pet supplies and everything else under the sun Walmart sells.
Anyway I rambled on enough as to why physical just doest do it for me anymore, but those are the main reasons. Like I said its nice to have a physical collection to look at but now its just about playing the game for me.

Data miners have found reference to a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds, specifically an edition for a store listing. Which to me, you don't start naming editions for a store listing unless development is well underway and the game is for sure going to release on that platform.
I said it before and I'll say it again, I think Wilds did not live up to the standard set by World and Rise. However, it is still just the base game and the expansion always improves things. And a lot of my issues can be remedied like toggling off auto-navigation, and just progressing to high rank where fights are tougher.
I'd definitely give it another go if it were to drop on Switch 2. And, this does seem to line up with Capcom's decision to go all-in on NS2, and their dissatisfaction with MHW sales performance on other platforms. So... ya. Looking pretty likely at this point.

They sell kits, but I opted to purchase one pre-assembled on Etsy.
It cost $180, but keep in mind, the Joycon alone are $100. The d-pad kit is $20. The HALL Effect analogs are $25. And the person selling it offered free shipping and had a cut taken by Etsy. Which means they essentially pocketed $10-15 profit for what likely took 1-2 hrs of intense, delicate disassembly/reassembly. I'd rather pay that extra $35 than try doing it myself. But the kits are an option.
And wow, what a difference it makes. Street Fighter 6 plays like a dream. I used to dislike Extremerate d-pads because I couldn't pull off moves properly, but I discovered it was improper technique. They have a natural round indent in the center and if you leave your thumb there and rock the directions it's crazy accurate. Trying to rub your thumb across the extreme ends doesn't work well. Once I learned that, I was impressed.

@JaxonH Do I remember correctly, that you picked up the Mobapad converter? Clearly the new Joycons have advantages - the new rumble alone is far superior...just wondering if you think the route you took is worth it, compared to the Mobapad option? I'm more of the mindset to wait for their Switch 2 version (Mobapad's) just curious about how you are thinking about it. Thanks for sharing your really fun finds here
@Lazz
Ya, Mobapad adapters and M6HD arent as good imo. They don't charge when connected to the system and they're not fully flush length wise which is kinda annoying. And no HD Rumble 2. Still a great cheap option if you already own them but, this is the way to go imo.
I, too, am waiting on the new NS2 model of Joycon from Mobapad. That's gonna be dope.

Even more evidence for MH Wilds, beyond just the "NSW2 Upgrade Edition" datamined and beyond Nash Weedle's prior leak stating it was coming.
This actually details how NPCs will be culled on NS2, and mentions local wireless multi-player.
Everything compiled into a reddit thread.
@Lazz
Btw, don't underestimate these analog caps! They fit both the Pro Controller analogs and the Joycon analogs, making them the same size in circular area and way more grippy. I had a pair on my Pro Controller and started wondering if they made any to fit Joycon, and sure enough they fit both. It makes a huge difference, actually. Thumbs don't slide off the analog when binging and things get a bit sweaty. And the right analog on Joycon is easier to grip and move around.
