Dude, the DKC port for Game Boy Color is so dang good. Love that you have it there!
@JaxonH
I think Donkey Kong Country is my favorite game of all time. And the second is a better platformer in almost every way, but there's just something so charming and "vibey" about the first that I had to put them both.
@squiddu-real I guess this is good for like general use, but I think it is more important to find out what games benefit from the Switch 2 without patches. IE games with uncapped framerates on 1, that now hit a consistent 60 on Switch 2 etc would love a database I could search for that stuff.
10 games that changed my life or helped my life in significant ways:
Jack Attack (Commodore Plus 4)
Magic Land Dizzy (Commodore 64)
Golden Axe (Commodore 64)
Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)
Shenmue (Dreamcast)
Tetris DS (DS)
Animal Crossing New Leaf (3DS)
Animal Crossing New Horizons (Switch)
Super Smash Bros Ultimate (Switch)

I may be considered crazy by some for saying this but I consider it my favourite version of that game. Just something about the limitations it's dealing with is super compelling. And not in just a "this is a technical achievement" kind of way, it's legitimately good

Both a Joycon 2 and Pro Controller update, btw. I updated my Joycon 2 in the JSAUX grips always attached to the system, my spare Joycon 2 used for docked play, and my Pro Controller. Controllers can be updated connected to the system or wirelessly.
Switch 1 also got an update, so if you run custom firmware don't update yet until devs fix compatibility. Will probably take 3-4 weeks to implement, from my experience.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 BC issues fixed. And a Pikmin 4 update adds some cool new features.

I'm hopping in to this tread to share some recent excitement! My birthday's a few days before Christmas, and I've always been fortunate to get enough cash from the holidays and my birthday to be able to treat myself. Additionally, I've gotten to a point recently with my job where I should be expecting some sort of bonus in December (if not, I have it covered). So now I'm working on saving to get my Switch 2! Along the way, I like to stock up on some "smaller" things, like accessories and cheap games. I ordered the GameCube controller while it was still in stock, and my microSD express card SHOULD be coming today (I was supposed to have it yesterday, but I got an echo dot and some sort of spray instead...).
The biggest thing I'm undecided about, and why I decided to post this, is a Pro Controller 2. I know the original Switch 1 works on most games, right? How necessary is the Pro Controller 2 of an upgrade? I know I want to get one eventually, but it's currently the priciest thing on my list of stuff to get before.
Thanks in advance, yall.

@ElRoberico While the original Switch Pro Controller does work with the Switch 2, it has the mild inconvenience of being unable to remotely wake the system from sleep mode. If you don't mind manually waking the Switch 2, and you're satisfied with the old Pro Controller, you should be fine.
If you want to use a newer controller, I would recommend--given the price tag of the Pro Controller 2--first trying out the included Joy-Con 2s in the grip before getting a Pro Controller 2. When the Switch 2 came out, I considered buying a Pro Controller 2, but found the Joy-Con 2s to be pretty good, so in the end, I felt comfortable sticking with the JC2s. Even if you want to get a PC2 eventually, this is a great option to use until prices go down.
Hope this helps!

I've been using the joycon 2 grip and switch 1 pro controller. Both are just fine for me. Cant be shelling out nearly 100 smackers for a controller these days.
I'd have to say that the price of the Switch 2 Pro Controller put me off getting one, alongside the fact that I had 2 Switch 1 Pro Controllers succumb to stick drift.
I can rationalize the fact that I was extremely unlucky and that the new controllers seem to be a lot less prone to it. However, there are third party controllers with Hall-effect or TMR sticks that you can pick up for less than half the price, where it's a non-issue, so they can count me out.
I'm currently using a Guilkit KK3 and Elves 2. The former is the better controller all round, but the latter can turn on a Switch 2 remotely and has a floating D-pad, so they make a good combination.
@ElRoberico
Honest opinion- NSW2 Pro Controller is a non-negotiable MUST-HAVE accessory. Here's why.
The NSW2 Pro Controller is very similar to the NSW1 Pro Controller. However. There are some notable differences that make all the difference.
HD Rumble 2
This isnt make or break, but the improved rumble is a noticeable upgrade over the previous rumble technology used
Glide Analog Sticks
Again, not make or break, but the new glide tech makes the analogs smooth as butter, since they no longer make contact with the outer plastic ring.
Audio Jack
This could be make or break depending if you have quality headphones. The audio jack transmits full 3D audio surround sound, and now offers a low-latency mode which is actually very good. NintendoLife has a video on it.
Chat Button
Not make or break but definitely convenient. No need to suspend software and toggle over to the GameChat menu.
System Wake
This is make or break, imo. Physically, getting up out of your seat and walking over to the switch to wake it is unreasonable. And unless you have a 2nd pair of Joycon 2, which would still require you to keep them next to you just to wake the system, that's exactly what you will be doing every single time you want to play.
Rear Grip Buttons
This is make or break, without question. The GL/GR (Grip Left, Grip Right) buttons aren't unwieldy paddles like on $200 Elite Controllers. They're svelte buttons placed with perfect precision and resistance so that your fingers naturally rest on them but don't accidentally press them. What's more, you can assign any button to GL and GR on a "per user profile, per game" basis. And you don't need to dig into settings to make assignments. It's all done via Quick Menu while in-game. There's a "Assign GL" and "Assign GR" option which you select, then press the desired button to be mapped. Done and done. The system automatically remembers which buttons were assigned for each and every game you play for each and every user profile playing them, and whenever you launch a game it applies those assigned buttons automatically to GL/GR. And these buttons make playing games so much more enjoyable. Less time clicking analog sticks or removing your right thumb from the analog to press a button.
At the very least, if you can't swing $89.99 for a Pro Controller, the best alternative option is the $39.99 Charge Grip. It lacks the audio jack, but offers every other advantage aside from peak ergonomics. It actually has GL/GR buttons built into it.
For me the Switch 2 Pro Controller was kinda impossible to justify but I did end up getting it because my Pro Controller is 8 years old now. But once I got it I didn't for a second regret getting it. It is unnecessary but it is also very nice
It's kinda like when I went out and got myself some fairly nice networking gear. Did I need it? Probably not. I could have easily made do with the ISP provided combo unit and saved myself some money. But I also don't regret spending a little bit on something nice given I'm interacting with it on a regular basis

I really really love my Pro 2 controller. My justification for getting it was basically because my Switch Pro Controller has kind of a bad stick at this point. Getting a new controller which starts out with an extremely good stick and d-pad and has the convenience of waking up my device just seemed worthwhile since I kind of needed a new controller anyways and I'm not a fan of joycons for most docked games.
In terms of the added gimmicks, I have briefly experimented wirh the GL/GR buttons but have personally found zero use for them so I ignore them. I only use the audio jack occasionally but it's nice to have. Mostly, however, it's just a really good traditional controller that works well with Switch 2.
@FishyS
In Pokemon Legends Z-A, try using GR for dodge rolling and GL for run.
In Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment, try mapping GL to R to pull up your skill menu, and map Run (cant remember the button) to GR.
In DK Bonanza, try mapping roll to GR and ground pound to GL.
In Mario Kart World, I dont know any advantageous use.
In any game requiring right stick aiming, map 2 face buttons (the most used actions) to GL and GR to avoid needing to remove your thumb from the analog (and thus forfeiting camera or aim control) as much as possible.
Basically, GL and GR are the easiest buttons to use, maybe tied with ZL/ZR (which is why you should never map ZL/ZR to them). Theyre great for clicking analog actions- those are always difficult for me so transitioning those actions to the easiest buttons to use without losing ABXYLR or the ZL/ZR is dope. And as mentioned, they're great for face buttons when you want to keep right thumb on the analog.
Im already anticipating mapping some D-pad actions in Metroid Prime 4, as it would negate the need to remove thumb from Left Analog when using Scan Visor or Psychic Powers.
