@Bigmanfan I don't get why anyone would purchase a stapler that's just a normal stapler in an auction.

Just for the memes. Plus it's a charity auction; plenty of people buy truly useless things at those. From GameStop's point of view it's probably just a silly but cheap way to advertise.

@FishyS Ahh, that makes more sense.

A quick question. Has anyone tried out Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope on their Switch 2 yet? It's one of my top 5 favorite games, and I've heard reports that the visuals look blurry on the Switch 2, especially in handheld mode. Is this true? The Ubisoft CEO was suggesting the potential of it bring rereleased on the Switch 2 (probably as a Switch 2 Edition down the line, now that we know these exist), but I still want to know about the original game's performance on the new system, just in case I get the new system.

@ShieldHero I haven't heard anything or tried it. I did try Tunic, and that game looked so blurry on the SW2. I don't know if I just quickly adjusted to higher resolutions and didn't notice before, but it was pretty tough.

@ShieldHero It was a little soft looking. Rather disappointing IMO. If they don't provide a free upgrade, I'll probably just stick with it on my SWOLED.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

The switch 1 games look kinda blurry and stretched out. Majority of them need proper updates to fix that. Will they get it though? Most likely they won't.

I've heard that the backwards compatibility of Switch 2 isn't the greatest, since it doesn't have the Switch hardware built inside or whatever like previous consoles did. It seems like most software has a label that says it performs the same as the original Switch, but...
@VoidofLight, does this blurriness happen in just about every game that hasn't gotten a Switch 2 patch? Is it just in handheld mode, or TV mode as well? I've been trying to learn as much about the Switch 2 as possible to decide whether I'm buying one or not. Also, kind of off topic, but your new avatar looks nice. What is it?

@ShieldHero Really depends on the game. A lot of games look and perform better. A lot of other games look essentially identical. Some games don't even load, others look a little blurry in handheld.

@FishyS, I have heard that it depends on the game, but the whole situation is just kind of freaking me out in general. Most of my games are first party Nintendo ones that should run fine, but you never know, especially with the Pikmin 3 Deluxe stuff I've heard about.

@ShieldHero Personally, I'm just keeping my Switch 1 for the near term. I've played like thirty Switch 1 games on Switch 2 so far and only had issues with one game (which I hope gets fixed; I contacted the devs). And if I really do want to play the rare game which has issues... I'll just play on Switch 1.

@FishyS, good idea! I was already planning on doing that as well!

I don't mind having the switch 2 blurriness, but then again- I used to play DS games on my 3DS.

@ShieldHero
Basically it comes down to this. If it was native locked 720p on Switch it'll look (marginally) worse on Switch 2 in portable mode. If it was locked at a sub-720p resolution it'll look about the same. If it had dynamic resolution scaling and didn't hit its targets it'll look better. If they inexplicably set the resolution to 1080p in portable mode it'll look better on Switch 2

The caveat is that the Switch OLED screen outclasses the Switch 2 screen just generally. So if it runs fine on Switch then OLED is still the go

And if you're docked.... Switch 2 is the way to go

@skywake Or if you feel like the screen is fine and you don't want to dig out your Switch OLED- handheld is pretty much alright. I've enjoyed playing on my Switch 2, and I haven't noticed many issues with the screen outside of just duller colors.

@VoidofLight
Don't get me wrong, I think the complaints about the Switch 2 screen are somewhat overblown. I don't really notice any issues and even in the measurements that are out there of it it's no worse than the original Switch screen. Same deal with the battery life. It's not SWOLED tier but it's fine, does the job

But if we're being pedantic then the objective statement is that the screen isn't as good as the OLED. The battery life isn't as long either. So if you are playing a Switch 1 game that ran fine on Switch 1 and maxed out resolution and framerate (60fps/720p)? If you are also playing that game portably and never really intend to dock AND the game has no performance patches...... then Switch 2 is academically a worse experience

Other than that though, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't just play the games on Switch 2. Switch games, pretty much across the board, run better on Switch 2. And speaking for myself I haven't played my Switch OLED once since launch. The only reason I haven't boxed it is because it has all my Switch games downloaded and MicroSD Express cards aren't cheap enough yet

I've not looked at original Switch hardware prices recently but I wonder how they are holding up. You would think those who have bought Switch 2 would be looking to sell their original Switch. I know some may hang onto it but I would of thought the majority would sell. You would expect buyers for Switch to reduce and sellers to increase and that would put pressure on prices to go downwards. I know its not that simple, sometimes more talk about a new console can lead to higher sales of the older console it replaces especially if there is a price cut on the older hardware. However ultimately surely secondhand Switch units should start increasing. I realise at this point its just early adopters and perhaps this Christmas will see a huge number of Switch 2 units sold meaning a glut of s/hand Switches in the new year. I'm sort of wondering how the Switch lite will fare, its soo much better as a portable console and you wonder if owners of that might just keep it for its portability where as perhaps normal Switches are more likely to be sold on.
