@link3710 It didn't help Nintendo that they had no games left for the Wii U I think. On the PS4 front, Sony just released Dreams, The Last of Us is coming up, and so is Ghost of Tsushima. And while FF7 isn't made by them, it's exclusive I think? And Microsoft has Ori at least. Not sure if there are any more 2020 scheduled, though I guess that Halo Infinite is coming to Xbox One as well. So the situation is a bit different.
Though yeah, I definitely expect some news from Sony before E3. And Microsoft has already sort of announced the system, so they can easily wait until E3.
@Octane I think there are differences between Nintendo and the Switch & Sony/Microsoft just now.
1. Sony and Microsoft are in a very direct competition with each other. They can’t stand a “softish” launch like Nintendo had - a failure to establish an early lead could be devastating for either Sony or Microsoft.
2. The timing of the release being Christmas and the expectation that both new consoles will sell 2-3x what Switch did in its first quarter.
Some of that momentum has to start rolling soon. In particular they have to let the public (and retailers) know soon: are we talking about a console with the edge to sell 4 million units or 6 million units this Christmas.
Games are part of that but the price is probably bigger and I don’t think either wants to risk being gazumpted.
@Grumblevolcano
(Seeing the Xbox games list) NONE of them are interesting to me.
This is the reason why Microsoft cannot sell their games to casual gamer like me and other gamers.
Microsoft needs to provide more casual and cute games for some audiences.
Not everyone bought Xbox machine for playing shooting games or action games all the time.
@Don I'd peg it down below 10%, considering they won't do it during PAX East, so it would have to be on Wednesday. And since it hasn't been announced yet... 10% is being generous truthfully, I don't think it stands a chance.
@Dezzy Well, Wednesday directs are almost always announced on Monday, so that's one strike. General directs have been Thursday bound for awhile so that's another. An Indie World seems more likely if we get anything before PAX. Releasing a direct the day before PAX is bad marketing since news coverage will be distracted the next day.
Also, people have been saying that the direct was going to happen for ages and it hasn't. Plus we just had a direct last week, so that also is another black mark against having one this week.
I don't believe in those leaks. I said we'd have a February 20th AC direct too, does that give me credibility? I'm going with my gut that the next general direct will be April 1st. It's still possible we'll get one this week but I see nothing suggesting its even remotely likely outside of false hopes and people believing random people on the internet.
