@Buizel Not everyone on earth likes cozy builder games. You need a diverse range of genres to appeal to people and we really don't have that right now.
My favorite genre by far is 3D adventure games. We did just get WW announced, but that is 2027. What fits that bill for 2026?
@Bolt_Strike If you're looking only at exclusives, there isn't one but there's some multiplatform options. The closest upcoming release would be Monster Hunter Stories 3 which comes out next week, has a somewhat similar gameplay style to mainline Pokemon and has had a demo available since February.
Now I maaay consider Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and/or Splatoon Raiders, those look like games I could possibly enjoy. The thing is though, we don't know much about them so I don't have enough to make a decision. When are we going to hear more about these games? Yoshi especially is very conspicuous because it's supposed to be releasing in the next few months, short of a delay they need to show it off. So where is it?
Between several already announced games that need more info (besides Yoshi which is the one that concerns me, Fire Emblem and Rhythm Heaven are in similar situations) and nothing at all scheduled for the 2nd half of the year (with Pokemon shockingly skipping that window defying most of our expectations), there's a very conspicuous gap that needs actual first party announcements and that's why everyone is chomping at the bit for an actual, General Direct with first party game announcements. And one game that can never appeal to everyone's tastes nor third party games which have far less appeal really fills that. So yeah, there's really no appropriate substitute here. Nintendo just needs to finally open their mouths and bring the goods.
@Bolt_Strike Nintendo released a brand new 3D DK game 3 months after it was announced. Initial announcement and Treehouse gameplay streams shown in April, silence in May, its own Direct in June and release in July.
Taking that into account, there's more than enough time to show off the 4 known upcoming games without needing a general Direct.
I never said they did. I was using my own personal tastes as an example of the kinds of preferences this year's lineup is not currently satisfying and how the argument of "we got Pokopia, that should be enough" falls flat. If the roles were reversed, I'd be ecstatic, sure, but I would not push back on anyone saying the lineup is insufficient.
Weird how a system needs time to get it's games out and have them all be diverse or something.
More than 12 months is an excessive amount of time to have those kinds of options though. They really should have at least one game per genre every 12 months (or at least something that appeals to the broad strokes categories like 3D adventure games, competitive multiplayer games, cozy life sim games, strategy, etc.).

In the next 3 months? Color me skeptical, that is some pretty cramped marketing.
And again, it's not just about the announced games, but the unannounced games too. It's just a whole lot of nothing right now with the only things we actually know about being Wonder S2E and Tomodachi Life. We don't even know what's happening in May ffs. The sheer lack of transparency is what's really making people antsy.
