One thing I don't get is that I thought the purpose of the Direct was to fill in the rest of the year with Switch games, but the only 2 games they announced are 2026 and Z-A/Metroid had no release date update. I actually don't get the point of this Direct besides to get people more desperate for the Switch 2 Direct.
I don't think that was the purpose of this Direct. I think the purpose was to bundle all of the announcements they want to do that they don't want to have bloating the Switch 2 Direct. But also to make it clear that there will continue to be software support for Switch going into 2026

Eh... didn't really like the direct, but I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought considering the Switch is basically on its way out. Metroid Prime 4 is still looking great, but I would have liked to see its release date. It is also cool to see Rhythm Heaven return, though that won't come out until next year. The virtual game cards does look like a nice new feature, and I'm especially glad it'll be available for the Switch 2 as well. A few other neat announcements, just speaking from what I'm personally interested in, but nothing super exciting. MP4, RH, and the virtual game cards were my highlights.
I'll still be looking forward to the Switch 2 direct, hopefully Nintendo is cooking up some awesome stuff behind the scenes. Would love to know more about the hardware itself, and especially its games.

Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I'd like to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
I'd think that the lack of new first-party Switch game announcements for this year is a good sign for those hoping for an early release for the Switch 2. We've got two games next year, Z-A will almost certainly come out after the Switch 2, and them still being cagey about the release date for MP4 suggests that it's probably going to drop on the same day as the new hardware and they don't want to give the game away.
As such, the decks seem cleared for a June release with an aggressive schedule for Switch 2 exclusives going forward. It's possible that a few more cross-gen games might drop next week, but the omens look pretty good if you're in the market for a new console and want some games that'll use its full capabilities.
Honestly, that direct was pretty good. Not the best direct ever, but I got Raidou, An Ai: The Somnium Files Spin-off, a New Rhythm Heaven (when I thought the series to be long dead), and a new Tomodachi Life.
With Prime 4, we still didn't get a release date. My thinking is that they'll use this as a comparison game in the Switch 2 direct- to show off the power difference between the original Switch and the Switch 2. We'll probably get our release date there.
Also, @skywake was right when it came to them wanting to use the direct to give out an update for the Switch. I don't think it's the NSO update we were talking about, but it's still a big update in terms of a new feature that's probably intended to be for the Switch 2 along with the Switch.

Tomodachi Life on 3DS sold over 6.72 million copies. The new one on Switch could end up selling over 10 million since it'll be playable on both Switch and Switch 2...
Switch having another 10+ million seller 9 years after release is crazy to think about
So Tomodachi Collection for Nintendo Music was a hint for more Tomodachi after all. If the pattern continues we'll see Wind Waker in some form (Wii U port or GCN NSO), a new Nintendogs and some equivalent to the Streetpass Mii Plaza on Switch 2.
@Grumblevolcano I doubt there's a pattern there. The app is for all 1st party music across all games and systems, and therefore isn't indicative of anything

I'm skeptical it will sell as well as the 3DS game. But, regardless, Pokemon Z-A is likely a Switch game which will sell 10+ million after Switch 2 is released.
The digital game cards press-release referenced "Switch 2 Edition" games, and it's making me worried. I genuinely hope they just mean for the few games that release on both systems- and not something like paying a full 70 for a "remaster" of Breath of the Wild, or paying 10 bucks to be able to upgrade the game to a 60FPS 4K state. I genuinely just wouldn't love it if Nintendo goes further to mimic Sony's horrible practices.

@VoidofLight I think they're just covering their bases. Regardless of what Nintendo does for first party, some third party games will definitely go the route of charging money for an improved version or having two seperate versions. As for Nintendo... I suppose we'll see next week if Prime 4 has 2 different versions; the fact that they didn't give a release date this week makes that a little more plausible.
@IceClimbers The Nintendo Music list is extremely focused on games playable on Switch though, it makes it look like Nintendo is aiming for synergy between the two.

Streetpass let's go!

Was pretty disappointed by the Switch 1 Direct. The most enjoyable moment for me was when Furukawa snapped his finger at the screen. Hope Switch 2 Direct will be much better.
@BrazillianCara I mean we're about to get (probably) one of the best Directs of all time next week, so it's not too big of a deal. My only problem is my Voucher is still waiting for a game to use it on.

If the rumored "Campus" app is real (I am not convinced one way or the other) maybe that could be the connection to Streetpass?
@FishyS I would also get either of those games with my voucher. There's no way Nintendo isn't having more Switch games this year, right?
I predict this is how they'll announce more Switch games throughout this year through the Nintendo Today! app instead of doing it in mostly Directs, with Nintendo Today! being in the Direct AND being the exclusive announcement place for the Zelda movie, it's clear that they want to use this a lot. Maybe we'll get an April/May game announcement on here soon?
@FishyS@PikminMarioKirby I think they'll announce some Switch 1 games as games which have a Switch 2 version releasing at the same time in the Switch 2 Direct. As for an April/May game, I think that'll be Prime 4 in late May (22nd/29th) as a Switch 1 only game.
