Don't know about a 2D Mario (though I certainly wouldn't bet against it), but the predictions that the Direct will just be 40 minutes of third-party games, ports and DLC are silly. Full-fledged Nintendo Directs almost always either reveal a new E ticket game or reveal more information about an upcoming known E ticket game (currently Metroid Prime 4 is the only example, and that barely counts considering how poorly the series sells). A quasi-E3 direct isn't going to be an exception. Besides the fact that Nintendo does release E ticket games late in a console's lifespan (Super Mario Bros. 3, Skyward Sword, many Pokemon games), there is no indicator that the Switch actually is late in its lifespan. The most compelling evidence that the next system is around the corner was the lack of games announced for the second half of 2023. Now that there's a direct with new games ready to be announced, that evidence is no longer relevant. The Switch has been around for a few years, but so was the Game Boy before Pokemon gave it a new lease on life (the original successor was a total flop, but they bounced back quickly).
@Euler I mean, you say Prime 4 barely counts, but that means you're still counting it. They could reveal more info on Prime 4 for 2024 and have a bunch of DLC, ports, remakes, and third parties and that would still show off an E ticket game while leaving us with a barren 2023 that could set up next gen in 2024 (with the aforementioned Prime 4 being cross gen). The mere existence of a full 40 minute Direct doesn't rule out a transition to next gen, we have to see what gets announced first. This Direct is really the Switch's Groundhog Day. It'll tell us if the Switch is continuing for another year (or few) or if we're moving on to next gen soon.
Really cool to see what other people are hoping for / looking forward to.
Pyoro (the person that confidently leaked previous games including Armored Core, Sonic Superstars Everybody 1-2 Switch and some other stuff) talked about the following:
1) a new 2D mario game - highlighted the words "Wonder"
2) a SNES remake
3) Detective Pikachu
4) retweeted something about Dragon Quest Monster
5) Everybody 1-2 Pikmin (Port for the first two games or a spin-off?)
@Bolt_Strike
There are too many variables to say where short development cycle begins and the hardware isn't upto scratch ends. Sometimes it's the former, sometimes the latter, sometimes both. But where the line for the latter ends is certainly well beyond the Switch spec for certain titles.
However, I struggle to see how 2D Mario could be such a title
Took some time out to make another bingo card for today's Direct!
Got a few wildcards among some safe bets (along with some oddball predictions here and there) so it'll be exciting to see what comes to pass from this (FOR THE LOVE OF DOC LOUIS GIVE ME PUNCH OUT PLEASE)

@Fizza
Nintendogs game on Switch will be 0% chance as there will be Little Friends: Puppy Island as the "Nintendogs" game on Switch by 3rd party developer.
I would like to see ARMS 2 get announced for another Boxing game by Nintendo.
And for Dancing game, gimme Dance Dance Revolution.
My money is on a Fire Emblem remake but Earthbound is my dream as it's the best way of keeping the games going without Shigesato Itoi making a new one and with no Shigesato Itoi there's no point. Still rather have Mother 3 though.
There's also Star Fox which basically gets remade all the time anyway plus Metroid and Zelda seem possible too.
Also, Im going to put an end to this "2D mario doesn't sell well" argument:
1. New Super Mario bros u deluxe (port that adds only 2 new characters) - 15.41m copies.
3d world + bowsers fury (better game and better port) - 11.38m copies.
2. Before odyssey, 3d marios hadn't yet broken the 20m copy barrier, something 2d marios had done multiple times.
3. The Mario Makers restrict your inputs (e.g. enemies) and thus potential levels, so should be considered a different series.
@chapuH I don't think the argument is that 2D Mario doesn't sell well (it does sell well), rather about whether 2D Mario is suitable to be a launch title for hardware anymore.
So some ideas for SNES game remakes, some serious some less so:
Super Mario RPG: Others have suggested it and, frankly, it seems like the most obvious choice. Substantial enough to still be a decently priced title and well regarded enough to draw a significant level of interest
F-Zero: Easy fan service and broad appeal. I'm not entirely sure how a "remake" of F-Zero would work, I mean why not just make an entirely new F-Zero at that point, but it could still be good
Link to the Past: Link's Awakening started as an attempt to port LttP to the GB and we got a remake of Awakening. So Link to the Past seems like a fairly obvious next step. Personally I'd rather a new Zelda entirely or, if they were to do a remake, go with the Oracle games. But this could obviously work
Super Punch Out: I mean, I could see it happening and it kinda happened already on the Wii. But if they were to do this I'm not entirely sure it would be described as a "SNES remake" by a leaker. Surely the NES title is better known, no?
UniRally: Somehow Nintendo got Rockstar and Pixar to play ball ...... also hell just froze over.... Seriously though, I can't understate how hyped I'd be even if they just dropped this on NSO. Never happening, obviously, but one can dream

@skywake I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War as a potential candidate; rumours have been swirling about that one getting a remake since before Engage's release.

I'm happy to see UniRally hasn't been forgotten. I'd be over the moon for it to be on NSO but there's a better chance of a cow jumping over the moon😢

Man this would be so awesome. So many people believe it’s either Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG, but if Genealogy Echoes shows up instead, 80% of the viewers will probably break something, 15% will be “ok, that’s cool.” And then the 5% will be the hardcore fire emblem fan base jumping for joy. It would be so great!
