Looking at the $80 price point, what if it’s also because they just plan to add the DLC in as free content updates instead of it being a separate purchase?

@MrCarlos46
Psst...
Don't give Nintendo the idea of being next EA with tons of DLC for The SIMS 4.
If they want really greedy, they can charge $60 just only for one track.

I haven't enjoyed a single MK game after the revolutionary and brilliant original Super Mario Kart back in 1992

Okay, now I'm legitimately curious: what was it about the other Mario Karts that didn't do it for you?

@WaveBoy I'd argue that SMK was still pretty luck-based, in that it required luck to beat the cheating computer players with the somewhat awkward controls at your disposal - though I imagine the challenge of overcoming that makes it more enticing to someone who. I prefer the other games by a long shot but Super's probably got the highest skill ceiling of any Mario Kart as a result and I absolutely understand why one would find that appealing.

Personally speaking though, I think Crash Team Racing(the OG and the remake) does a better job of being a good kart racer with a strong skill ceiling.

I'm dying to see this Mario Kart World Direct!

@N00BiSH I'm so glad I spent 1-2 hours on Coco Park track (the small oval) learning Crash Team Racing's drift boost system. It was SO worth it to learn it. It's SO fun. I miss playing it online & striving to keep the blue flame boost. Although, I don't miss the switch's 50 second load screens for online & loading tracks in general.😆

@WaveBoy My Mario Kart history begins with Wii and 7 - I didn't play Super until the Wii U Virtual Console. While I respect the work that went into the game, and appreciate it for the foundation it set, it wasn't quite to my tastes for the reasons I mentioned. I'm sure with your perspective and history, it's probably God's nectar, but I'm not one to look at games with that kind of rosy nostalgic filter, and that's okay - we all have our biases.

@WoomyNNYes HECK YES, man. The drifting and reserve mechanics in in CTR are unmatched - made for some fantastic races with superb track design. I hope more racing games take notes from that title. The only game I've seen do something like that is Antonblast and that's not even a racer.

Well there you go, you just had to of been there when it launched otherwise you can't even come remotely close to appreciating it, if you started out with something like MK Double Dash or Wii.

Saying I can't appreciate it just because I didn't grow up with is a a little gatekeepy to say, innit? There are things I love about Super - the sprite art is charming, the soundtrack is catchy, the way it leveraged Mode 7 tech was pretty impressive, the Feather was a great item, and of course, it laid the groundwork for everything else to follow - these are all things I appreciate about it, even if I think time hasn't been kind to the core gameplay.

@Kairuuu The characters having multiple costumes was definitely a nice addition (plus a lot of them look really well-designed), and I’m excited for it since I did like using some of the alternate racers in MK8, especially Tanooki Mario, so seeing them extend upon it and give them more different looks is cool!

Yeah, if they did organize the costumes like how Smash does, it would make the character select screen less cluttered and cleaner. They could also maybe do what Smash does with Echo Fighters where on the select screen, they allow you to stack the Echo Fighters on top of the original fighter they’re based on so you can select which fighter you want, and it also clutters less of the selection screen. If MKW did something similar to one of those with the alternate costumes, that would be awesome!

I would like if they possibly brought the crossover racers from MK8 back and added in a few new ones, as well as some of the crossover courses as well! I absolutely enjoyed the crossover characters and would like to see them again if they are planning on doing it. I also do feel like they may have a lot of the Booster Course Pass characters return if a few of the Booster Course Pass racers are back, I honestly think it’d be strange if the rest of the others didn’t return as well. But if they aren’t, they could save them for potential DLC.

@NinChocolate I'd prefer if it were called "Mario Kart World Rally" or something (just so it isn't one word), but I'm fine with what we have so far.

@PikminMarioKirby never played that one before. Is it any good as far as mascot kart racers go?

SNES Mario Kart was my first ever game I owned. I got a SNES for my 10th Birthday. It was one of the harder Mario Karts as you could spin out quite easily. Though it was rewarding to get through Rainbow Road at a decent speed without coming off.

I wasn't a fan of Double Dash or Mario Kart Wii, but 8 Deluxe pips the SNES one for me.

N64 was probably my most played Nintendo console.

I'm crossing my fingers for crossover stuff, to be frank. It was SUCH a great addition to MK8 and I think they've shown there is MORE than enough Mario rep here to justify some crossover stuff. Though, tbh, I am actually expecting crossovers LESS from what we've seen so far. Then again, it would be the PERFECT way to expand on the game in the months/years post-launch. Guess we'll see on that front, I won't get my hope too high, I just hope the base game offers enough to keep up coming back time and again.

Honestly, my only real worry atm (besides how they will justify the higher price to people) is that it's LOOKING like we will be spending a LOT less time racing on actual RACE TRACKS and a lot MORE time racing on mostly straight, wide roads. I'm definitely concerned about that element. But the Knockout Tour mode DOES look super fun and maybe because of how it's formatted, it's causing my perception of the game to be skewed toward that type of track layout.

Just wait until the Mario Kart game after World is called Mario Kart 14.

@N00BiSH Actually really fun, absolute huge fan of the battle mode! I’d go as far as to say it’s better than Double Dash (which I admit is probably a very unpopular take).

@CaleBoi25 Mario Kart Wii was utterly fantastic. The bikes were revolutionary despite how bloody strong they were. Loved seeing several Funky Kong's on the Flame Runner in every online race. 😂

Not to mention, the Mushroom Gorge music still pops into my head randomly to this day.

Kinda crazy this game already looks so good and there's still an entire direct for it coming on Thursday. It just makes me wonder how much there is that they still aren't showing us.
