"resetera"
"high profile "

Is the funniest thing which I ever has seen here. "resetera" is a cancer beyond cure. The worst of the worst of the internet.
"resetera" is along with internet a mistake.

Not even PS5 Pro is able to run GTA6, so forget it. It got delay because Microsoft is releasing their next console at next year which will be selling at +100% loss just to be able to run GTA6.

@Keman You're trolling or you didn't watch the trailer. Otherwise, you would have seen that the trailer was captured on PS5, and even read that it was coming to Xbox Series S. The delay has nothing to do with Microsoft anyway. I wish everyone wouldn't comment for the sake of attention.

The trailer was captured on ps5, but "not even a ps5 pro can run gta6"

And im the one who is gullible?

You don't have to like resetera, it is indisputable that hundreds of real rumors have been posted on the forum and later confirmed true. I listed several examples already in this topic. You can think they are a cancer, but denying this just makes you a liar instead.

Don't allow your personal preferences to pollute your interpretation of reality. Resetera indisputably is home to many industry insiders, and indisputably consistently posts rumors that end up true just like neogaf before it. Nobody cares about your editorializing otherwise as it's irrelevant to this topic. For example, i don't even have an account at resetera nor do i want one. But I still understand its value in learning game news early, since there are too many times to count they have done so accurately.

I don't have an account on that site, but I suggest you check his posting history. I seriously doubt his story, or that he is a fellow Scot.

Rockstar North are based in Edinburgh. If his "school friends" all got a job for them, then he must be based in Scotland. More likely, his story didn't happen and this guy wants attention.

Nearly applied to work for Rockstar North for QA testing on GTA V but didn't want to relocate to Edinburgh from Aberdeen given how expensive a place to live it is, and how insecure QA work is.

Scepticism is natural and healthy, and in an age of rampant misinformation, it is some kind of insane troll logic to suggest people are stupid for NOT believing a rumour.

CaptainQuo

Quantumz00

Im not saying people are stupid for not believing the rumour . Im saying trying to discredit the rumor because you don't like resetera - which posts accurate rumours literally all the time - or trying to say im posting it for the 'lulz' is not serious commentary about the rumour being true or not.

And furthermore, you are again giving no real reason why you doubt the guy. Why isn't he banned yet? It's been over a day since he posted it in a very high profile thread. Why isn't he a Scot? Why couldn't he be friends with someone in Scotland while he lives or works elsewhere? Hell, GTA6 is being developed by like 600 people including contractors. There are sooo many ways such a secret could have got out. Or it could just be false! There are literally so many potential variables youre essentially guessing at that its like seeing the trees and missing the forest.

For me it's simple. I think about the state of the industry and how with Xbox in real trouble a game that costs a billion dollars to develop is going to need as many hands to buy it as possible. I think about the history of Rockstar games development in the past, with several unique GTA titles developed for psp and ds. I then think about what this person has to gain by posting this rumour (attention is pretty much the net sum) versus the obvious fact he isn't yet banned and he is a well established poster on the site. I've seen mods ban people countless times for posting fake rumours and refusing to verify their sources. But a rumour about the biggest game of all time is not going to recieve that attention? Come on.

This doesn't mean I think the rumour is 100% confirmed or close. It means I think there is a good chance it could be true. It means I believe Switch 2 is capable of it, and the only thing that is required is the will. And it means that as of yet nobody has posted anything that has discredited the rumour... yet. The second they do, I'll laugh about it and move on.

I still don’t think people realize the importance of GTA 6 on switch 2. If they release a competent version on the console and it sells well (5 million or more) it shifts the game industry. The narrative that Nintendo owners don’t want or play mature games and that one of the most technical games of the generation can run on the system would be massive. The floodgates would really open up and no publisher can ever make another excuse of why their games isn’t on a Nintendo console. I still won’t believe it but from a technical perspective I think it’s way more possible than people think. Switch 2 is going to surprise a lot of people.

Jedrus_Lilac

@Qwertyninty is that narrative still a thing? I mean the switch 1 has been seeing quite a number of mature games (gta and red dead included).

Nah, GTA VI on Switch 2 wouldn't change that narrative.

Even though Switch already has more near-adult games than either Playstation or Xbox, Nintendo will still be seen as the Fisher-Price of the video game world.

With Xbox game sales essentially limited by its paltry 30+ million install base, it’s really up to the PS5 which won’t even have 100 million install base when GTAVI releases. PC is a necessity. And frankly, after the 152 million Switch units sold, so is the Switch 2.

This game has been in development for a decade and a half, assuming they started planning after the last entry, which let’s not forget, released two entire generations ago, and it’s probably the most expensive video game in all of history.

I’m sure a lot of the devs don’t want to sacrifice the visual, fidelity and vision of the game, but at the end of the day money talks and BS walks. I don’t know when it will release, but if I were a betting man, I’d say the game is coming to NSW2 at some point.

There are rumours circulating that GTA IV will be getting some kind of port or remaster for PS4/Xbox One and interestingly Switch instead of Switch 2. It’s supposed to be the gap filler because of GTA VI delay but I have a hard time buying Rockstar would have managed to green light such a thing, get it ported or remastered and do all the music licensing and radio alterations needed in a short space of time.

@FragRed The GTA4 rumours were part of the same batch as RDR1 years ago.

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2022/07/gta-6-is-rockstars-fo...

I think it's real considering RDR1 turned out to be real and it plays the same role as that game. Adding a game that's never been on Nintendo hardware meanwhile also adding it to PS4/PS5 library considering Sony doesn't have a PS3 backwards compatibility solution.

Grumblevolcano

FragRed

@Grumblevolcano Good point about it being like RDR, I was just expecting a bit more work put into GTA IV because it’s an older game with mechanics that really could do with updating.

@Magician I respectfully disagree. It’s not just what I mentioned but GTA is the biggest IP in gaming right now. It will sell the most copies after release until the next one. It’s in a different league than any other game that could come to a Nintendo platform. IT WILL CHANGE THINGS.

It is one of the biggest gaming IP out there, top five for sure. Not sure if I'd say #1 though. Depends on if we're talking copies sold (GTA V is #2 lifetime 210m copies, series is #5 lifetime at 440m copies) or merchandise...in which case Pokemon curb stomps everything. No doubt GTA VI will break day-one records though. The second trailer had 50m views in one day.

@Magician Even with day 1 records, you have to caveat it. Pre-order or day 1 'purchase' may not mean as much for free to play games, but Zenless Zone Zero (the latest game by the Genshin devs) passed 40 million pre registrations. In terms of profits, quite a few mobile and online games have made more than GTA5s around $10 billion. Even Candy Crush has earned more than GTA5.

GTAVI will be massive, but I don’t expect it to do anywhere near the numbers GTAV did. That game released on the following platforms:

  • PS3
  • Xbox 360
  • PS4
  • Xbox One
  • PS5
  • Xbox Series
  • PC

That’s an average of about 30 million per platform. This is how it achieved such astronomical success. It’s been sold for going on 2 decades now, spanning 7 platforms across 3 entire console generations.

GTAVI will initially release on 2 platforms (which really, if you combine PS5 and Xbox Series sales you get the equivalent of just 1 very successful platform). Adding PC will be critical for revenue. But even then, I don’t think it’ll be enough. For any other game those platforms alone would be more than sufficient as I suspect they could take it to 75 million copies sold by the end of the generation. But this is GTA. I don’t think they’re setting their sights on 75 million. I think they’re setting their sites on 100 million, and in order to achieve that they’re going to need to leverage Nintendo Switch 2 consumers, then resell the game back to PS/Xbox fans a 2nd time when PS6/Xbox5 releases.

Another very astute point, JaxonH.

I know right now the idea of GTAVI on Switch 2 seems astonishing, but I think people better be prepared for a lot of astonishing sights this gen. The industry is on fire right now, everyone is looking for additional revenue sources. Companies will be implementing strategies you would have doubted before.

SquareEnix just announced a complete restructuring during their latest investors call, and this restructuring will be centered around a, quote, "multiplatform focus" going forward.

This is where we are at when the average AAA game now costs north of 100 million dollars or more. And AAA+ games like GTAVI are getting to the billion dollar development point already!

So yeah, spreading their wings to fly will soon be a necessity for most developers and publishers. Few will have luxury for exclusives unless costs are covered outright.

@JaxonH which is exactly the reason a switch 2 version is needed to maximize sales. It could potentially become the market leader very quickly. You need your games in the market leaders hardware.
