Topic: Grand Theft Auto VI in development for Switch 2 (Rumour)

Take this with a grain of salt, but a poster Kyokanto on the high profile game message board resetera wrote the following:

"Let me be very, very clear here.

GTA VI is in development for Switch 2. I know this 100% due to contacts I have from school friends that now work at the huge studio. I will not jeopardise their jobs by revealing more.

I couldn't care less if people don't believe me. Hold me to my word. It will be announced around the time of the PC versions announcement in late 2026 then released late 2027 potentially after the PC version.

People are right some of the developers don't want a downgraded versions of their vision released but guess what? The money men do. People forget it's publishers who makes these decisions not developers."

This is crazy and SO AMAZING for future possibilities on the system!

Yeah….. I will believe it if I see it. A lot of people jumped on the delay by a year thing to mean it’s coming to Switch 2, which I don’t see happening. Not day and date if it were. Plus I think it would have been mentioned officially one either as a PR statement or just a logo on the trailer. Rockstar don’t rely on waiting for events to do these things as we have seen, so to me if they don’t say anything it’s not happening.

My best friend's cousin's sister's boyfriend's great-uncle's roommate's brother-in-law who works for Nintendo says its true.

@Tasuki To be fair, I just took a plane to Japan, strolled right in, said my uncle works at Nintendo to the reception, went up in the lift, into a room called “Future Games Coming to Switch 2” and looked at the list as it was constantly printing out games. Yep, it’s true. It says so. It says GTA VI.

I know I've done the "internet rumors skeptic" thing too.

Thing is, I know how to identify one from a message board well known for exactly these type of high profile leaks. And within that board, it's very easy to identify who is serious by their rumors since they get vetted by mods or banned for their outrageous claims.

So the fact this hasn't happened yet tells me there is smoke here.

But feel free to bump the topic when it comes to pass. I will accept payment in one copy of GTA6 for Switch 2.

People need to up their internet literacy game to understand how to parse this sort of thing in an age of liars and a.i. tee hee

I'm going to put this even another way:

GTAVI is being designed to run on an Xbox Series S. Switch 2 with DLSS upscaling can definitely do a passable port. Look at cyberpunk 2077. Even with it's cpu deficiency it can be done with enough cash to brute force the issue and with enough incentive. Nintendo would be working very closely with Rockstar if they knew they were attempting a port.

Xbox consoles are dying. This isnt even console warring at this point. It now costs 100 more to buy an Xbox than a PS5, and it wasnt already selling at a 1.6:1 ratio prior! Look at the price rise, and they were already selling like trash. Rockstar is gonna need another platform to offset the declining numbers of Xbox players. This is the most expensive game ever developed.

Solution? Nintendo players. It's happening.

I do think GTA6 on Switch 2 is far more likely than some are making out. And I don't think Rockstar is somehow opposed to GTA being on Nintendo's hardware

With that said, friend from school is basically just "my uncle works at Nintendo" with a different coat of paint

I doubt the delay was due to a Switch 2 port.

More like it was either delayed for polish and/or the PC port.

Perhaps Switch 2 will get a cloud version of GTA VI a few years from now. Maybe.

When GTA 6 finally comes out in 2027 after multiple additional delays , we will see if it's true 😆

That said, if it comes to Switch 2, I bet it will be a seriously subpar version.

I Also like the implication that this poster knows multiple people working at rockstar breaking their nondisclosure agreements. ' will not jeopardise their jobs by revealing more' - yeah, those people's jobs are already toast if they're leaking things to their school friends. School friends who have other social media under the same username so it is likely easy to find what school the poster went to and therefore easy for Rockstar to see if they have recently hired people from that school who may be leaking confidential information all over the place.

Since it's a game that's even coming to Xbox Series S, the question here isn't whether Nintendo Switch 2 can handle it, but whether Rockstar will bother to port it.

@JokerCK They never bothered with GTA V despite a lot of people believing it would happen. I think the biggest question is more to do with GTA Online which may not be worth the effort which is why GTA V never came over.

I honestly believe it will happen. AAA game development is so expensive these days that all publishers except Nintendo are releasing games everywhere. The question is not if Switch 2 can run it, but if it will be enjoyable in Switch 2 with the compromises that are going to be made.

If it's anything like Cyberpunk, I'm in! That's good enough for my eyes.

I’ll believe it when I see it announced. I will say this, the timing is perfect for Nintendo gamers to finally get a mainline GTA game. I’m okay with the time frame. I believe assuming true, rockstar will deliver an amazing port of the game.

It'd be sweet if we finally got a port of GTAV too. Maybe Rockstar would release something like that as a primer to prepare switch 2 owners for the main course since the last time a game past ancient GTA ports 1-3 actually hit a Nintendo platform, it was GTA: Chinatown Wars, which was quite well received.

Which actually strengthens the potential for this rumour now that I think about it, because between the GTA psp games and the DS game, they've already developed three unique handheld GTAs. What's a adequate 30fps port of GTA6 gonna do? It'll do gangbusters.

I know money isn't always the only consideration, but remember Rockstar doesn't make the call. Their publisher Take Two does.

Mmmm profit!.. £100 games, here we come.

So, to sum up, it'll take ages to port, cost a fortune, run really badly and be far too big to fit on a cartridge.

Do people still want this?

My friend got a job working on a big game that hasn't been announced yet. I wouldn't betray him for anything. (But I will pester him to bring it to Switch 2 lol!)

I'm no "GTAVI on Switch 2" truther, but Rockstar still isn't putting the Steam/PC logo on the game's trailers even though we all know it will eventually come to PC, so there is no way they are going to stick a Switch 2 logo there either even if it was secretly in development for Switch 2.

Rule of thumb; if you're expecting a present day big AAA third party game for a Nintendo console you're going to have to wait 10 years.
