Is there anyone else here that won't now be buying a Switch 2 due to the price of it's software. The fact remains that £80 or even more from some major Nintendo/3rd Party big hitters is just too much for me and I simply can't/won't be paying it. Nintendo is going to have to be very careful here and this doesn't go ahead and bite them on the bum as I feel as though lots of people are in my position and this could end up having a really detrimental effect on the sales of Switch 2, people are just not going to like having feeling like they've been scammed every-time they buy a game for the console and just to add insult to injury Nintendo go ahead and launch a Switch 2 tutorial only you have to pay for it! I mean c'mon Nintendo really!
Some serious pricing strategy rethought is needed by Nintendo here, but do I think we'll get any nah not really not with Nintendo's past track record. So no Switch 2 for me then at least until we have some more sensible game pricing or you can buy any second hand games I'll just have to rely upon reviews & the videos people post. I have to say I was very disappointed that there was no new Super Mario or Zelda games announced perhaps by the time we see them we'll have some more realistic game prices I was also surprised that they did not show any games running it's much lauded new DLSS tech, not even Metroid Prime 4 Beyond as far as I can see. Ah well, makes me sad I can't get a Switch 2 but I still have hope for the future of the console.
As someone who used to collect Neo Geo AES ($150-$350 per game) cartridges, Nintendo increasing the base price of their games impacts me very little. But I have a solid job with zero responsibilities and few bills. If I were a family man, I could see how the Switch 2 would be a tough sell.
As a collector, I'm more upset with the game-key cards.
Publishers opting for zero game preservation and maximum profit makes me one sad panda.
@Magician Glad you're doing well, life's not so easy for me though and the base console would be a big luxury, game prices of £80 and beyond though simply push it beyond the limit. I reiterate what I said before though, that Nintendo needs to be really careful here with the global economy being in such a disastrous current state, and massive game prices just aren't going to help the potential sales of the console any.
@Dhaladog Are the games '£80 and beyond' though? We've had MKW confirmed at £75 for the physical and DK at around £67. As far as I'm aware, no other games have had prices confirmed yet and IMO I doubt we'll see anything over £75 for a standard edition. I expect for 3rd party stuff they're likely going to price it close to the equivalent versions on other consoles.
I never thought there would be a new Zelda announcement given TOTK is only a couple of years old and Echoes of Wisdom is also fairly recent. It'll likely be a few years before we see a new Zelda Game - more likely we'll get the ever-rumored Zelda remakes/remasters to fill in the gaps in the meantime. As for DLSS tech, it's likely a feature that's not very easy to showcase in a YouTube video as you're at the mercy of YouTube compression and the quality of the viewer's screen to make comparisons. It's one of those things that you'd likely need to see in person to appreciate how good it looks.
I'll buy one eventually, but I'm waiting until the games go down in price (either with actual discounts or secondhand). I've got more than enough to play in the meantime. I do think Nintendo's made a mistake when online discussion of the console is dominated by price discourse. Not saying it will be another Wii U, but I could easily see it struggling until prices drop and ultimately only selling half as much as the Switch, just like the 3DS after the DS (though it was probably never going to do quite as well as the Switch even with a perfect launch).
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
@Magician Only MKW & DK have been confirmed in the UK as far as I can see. The $US to £GB conversion is way off as usual, although as often pointed out the US prices don't usually include Sales Tax/VAT and the UK ones do.
Point still stands that nothing (so far) is more expensive than MKW, with Street Fighter on a par with other platforms. Pleasantly surprised by the price of Bravely Default there too - thought it would be more expensive.

It'll come storming out of the gates. The core Nintendo fandom have been thirsty for a Switch Pro since 2017. However many Switch 2 consoles Nintendo can produce between now and this time next year (20 million?) will be sold, no sweat. But the second and third years of the Switch 2's life will tell the tale of how casual Nintendo fans feel about pricing.
@dmcc0 Maybe you've convinced me to re-consider my thoughts on Switch 2, If I could get a few first party titles for more like £70 I might still be interested, not really interested in the 3rd party stuff especially all those already seen on PC/other consoles but the console itself seems reasonably priced and waiting forever for a new Zelda is just one of those things I suppose, still would have been nice to have seen a new Super Mario though.
@Magician Oh yeah, its launch sales will definitely be fine. The diehard Nintendo fans always make sure of that, and those of us within that group who are choosing to wait are probably a minority. But even so, if some Nintendo fans are being put off by the game prices, you'd have to expect a not-insignificant number of casual players will be too.

@Dogorilla Do you think that the big hitter here will be the digital version of Mario Kart World, I would personally only be interested in the game cards for collection or re-sale purposes. I was wondering if I was to buy a Switch 2 at launch what would be the best way of getting a console with MKW.
MK8 Deluxe sold...68 million copies on Switch, against 150 million consoles sold as of the end of 2024. Considering the Switch 2 + MKW bundle will be the Nintendo holiday bundle we'll see year in and year out. Yeah, the ratio between digital and physical copies of MKW sold will be probably around 8:2. Eight digital copies sold for every two physical copies.
I don‘t care about the prices because i know that i will buy every game i want to play anyway. And yes i know that i am addicted to (nintendo) video games. (But yes, i think they are too high.)
The prices (for games, the console is fine) definitely suck, but I will still buy the console at launch. As it sounds like UK retailers are selling some Switch 2 games for cheaper than the MSRP, perhaps retailers in other countries will too.
Something that does give me hope is that MKWorld and DK Bananza, are two games that in the past would have been priced the same, are now priced differently (where Mario Kart is $80 and DK is $70). This might mean that Nintendo will start pricing games individually rather than all the same across the board? If that is the case this might mean that Drag x Drive will be $40, and Kirby Air Riders will be $60... maybe? hopefully?
Silksong is GOTY 2025 and no other game stands a chance (E33 will win anyway)
@Dhaladog Yeah, the bundle with Mario Kart included digitally should do well. It's only about £35 more than the console by itself, so it basically negates the high cost of the game if you're happy to have a digital copy.

@Dogorilla Don't know if I'd be happy with a digital only version as I grew up with NES games and have had physical media for every console I've owned since and there is still quite a healthy retro game market for physical media, price vs aesthetics the jury is still out.
@Dhaladog Agreed, I would rather have it physical. If I was getting Switch 2 day one I would go for the bundle as it effectively halves the cost of Mario Kart compared to a physical copy, but as I've decided to wait I'm hoping physical copies will be available cheaper by the time I do get the console.

@Poco_Lypso Think I have made a final decision and it's not to buy a Switch 2 at launch maybe I'll wait until the holiday period and we hopefully have a few more first party titles & the game prices have settled down a bit with maybe a few deals to be found.
Kinda disappointing for me not to own a new Nintendo console at launch as I have with every one since the NES previously, however you do what you must and I'm afraid that common sense is having to prevail this time around as my pockets aren't as deep as they once were.
The cost was always going to increase. Inflation and general cost. I will be buying day one. I am interested in 3rd part prices which not seen yet in the UK
I think the prices was be anywhere from 50 - 60 for 3rd party and First party 70 - 80 is what I am expecting now. As for patch upgrade to Switch 2 Eyecandy well I am not holding out hopes for some games to not get them or not run correctly on Switch 2. This is the real downside were no hearing about. Limited Edition Switch 2 exclusives well the sky is the limit here.
