I'm not unhappy with backwards compatibility at all. I've been playing Snowrunner - one of my favourite games on Switch - and on Switch 2, it looks sharper and has significantly improved loading times.
@rallydefault saying someone thinks like a child isn’t personal? Hottest take of the day so far…
Anyway…I’ve been pretty happy with playing original games on switch so far. Ion Fury took a colossal leap in playability, and I’ll be glad to get around to the top down Zeldas with their quirks smoothed.
The sad reality is that any 30fps Nintendo release is likely to be given a dedicated Switch 2 edition with bells and whistles because big companies know we love a 60fps glow up. I think it will happen with Pikmin 4 given the upcoming patch - Scarlet and Violet were an exception because they were technically wretched.
I think my biggest wish is to see some efforts from large but non Nintendo studios. Something like Nier Automata is such an enduring experience and is held in the same esteem it was at its launch. It really deserves a switch 2 patch.
@B3RTAY I was surprised this thread hasn't had mods deleting things.
As for Nier I'm really worried that instead of a Switch 2 patch or even Switch 2 paid upgrade, they'll just put out a separate Switch 2 version with no upgrade path.
I'd think that the biggest issue for making Switch 2 Editions of existing games like Nier: Automata would be the availability of dev kits. Indies basically can't get them at all, except via invitation, and I'd suspect that even the big publishers would have to prioritize them for new releases and ports of AAA games that passed over the Switch for being underpowered.
It's no real surprise that most of the Switch 2 enhancements we've seen for third party games have been relatively recent releases or ones where there's ongoing development, such as Fortnite and No Man's Sky.
As such, the opportunities to revisit an eight year old game are going to be pretty thin on the ground. Of course, those rules don't apply to Nintendo themselves, and they've done just that with Breath of the Wild. However, even they're not doing it for every game, including a lot of the ones that could benefit the most from it.
@rallydefault I did agree with you on that! That's why I'm confused why after that message you started making fun of me lol. I felt like I was extending an olive branch to you, but you slapped it to the ground and stomped on it. Unless you meant the whole "child" thing as a point of endearment? 😅
But whatever, no point in holding a grudge. I forgive you. We good? I don't wanna make enemies with anyone here!
@WaveBoy Thanks for the message! It's a good reminder that while we may have our differences, the fact that we're here in this community, we actually share a lot in common and would probably get along IRL.
I think a big part of it is people simply not being aware of the difference between "full hardware BC" vs "hardware compatibility layer BC" vs "software emulation BC", or at least not acknowledging the impact. If a person thinks of video game consoles as magic, that work by the power of "you press the button and wonders happen", then differences in capability seem arbitrary. The solution, natch, being education.
So far no I can't really complain. As for Switch 2 versions of Switch 1 games my only gripe is with Mario Party Jamboree. I legitimately felt ripped off buying that.
