Actually, he is in a shed, not the basement. Poor guy probably doesn't get sick leave, either. They just hand him his Switch 2 so he can keep waiting for that darn Dire Fire Docks cover from Mario Kart World to play 😂😂😂

(Edit: I mean Dire Dire Docks, but honestly, it's a good cover, so my typo isn't all that egregious)

Ok so still a no show so far. I'm not going to count changes to people's predictions at this point but here are my possible theories:

1) The obvious one is that it is tied to Metroid Prime 4. Don't really see why they would need to wait two more days if it is a different entry in the franchise so maybe we are getting a special release (although when they did special releases in the past this was in addition to the usual not instead of).
2) The update is tied to a new NSO addition and they want to release them in tandem like they did with Mario Paint. ( I believe this was the case the last time there was a delay).
3) Whatever the release is a big one and it just wasn't ready in time so maybe a Smash Bros, Mario Kart World or Xenoblade is on the horizon.
4) Shed guy was asked to add another Pikmin game and is striking in protest.

What are your thoughts everyone?

I'm definitely feeling better about my Metroid Prime Trilogy prediction in any case.

I’d like for Nintendo to always let us know whenever there’s nothing in a week, like I thought they would after doing just that in the lead-up to Pokémon Legends Z-A.

Seeing the Snowmads on Nintendo Today’s new Donkey Kong theme makes me want DK Tropical Freeze again.

i'm betting on 3. this being a weird exception if it was 1, like you said, we already had an nso drop very recently for 2, and 4... pikmin... pikmin 4 confirmed for nintendo music woaow!!

i could imagine this is a scenario where it was simply too big, and it'll be one of those times they have to skip the next week cause it's xenoblade or something.

@squiddu-real To be fair, last week was a very big one even if it didn't feel like it. So maybe that was the soundtrack to tie us over for a fortnight.

That being said I certainly wouldn't complain if that's not the plan.

@AJWolfTill Could be anniversary related like Mario & Luigi Paper Jam released on December 3rd 2015 in Japan (the rest of the world got XCX that week) and Big Brain Academy Brain vs. Brain released on December 3rd 2021.

I kind of feel like the obvious anniversary opportunity was for Twilight Princess on the regular drop date, lol.

Getting nothing this week would be perfectly reasonable after last week's massive drop, but I'm gonna be a little miffed that they didn't bother telling us in advance if that ends up being the case.

@Robot99 I could see them pull a Galaxy 2 and save Twilight Princess for Nintendo Music for releasing alongside a Switch 1 version next year (perhaps port over the Wii U HD remaster). Nintendo has committed to supporting Switch 1 with new NSO voucher additions throughout 2026 and a Zelda remaster seems like a good fit because of the 2027 Zelda movie.

@Grumblevolcano as an aside, if they do port TP, I feel like it will either be a direct port or a full remaster — but not a port of TPHD

No update again, but now Mario Kart World displays the song playing when paused.

trust me guys, this obviously means special release: mario kart world part 1/6 is just around the corner!

I am actually strongly under the impression that they're gearing up towards a Mario Kart World OST release tbh, although maybe not immediately. They just added a Switch 2 section to the app last week, and now MKW itself has official names for all of its songs.

You guys, don't you see what this means?! Poor ol' Shed Guy has to retake all of his screenshots so that they display the track title! That's really why it's taking so long, he's been waiting for this update. 😆

At least poor ole' dungeon man won't have to extend most of the tracks when he does the MKW OST lol. Although good luck to him figuring out the ones with intros and codas X-D

@Robot99 poor guy is gonna go turn in his work, only for Mr. N (yes, I have decided that he has a boss lol) to tell him he was also supposed to get the "intermission" versions of the songs lol!

I think we are one big step closer to Mario Kart World with this update and the Trinen interview a few weeks ago.

Imagine on the 23rd December to tie us over for the holiday period they just drop the whole thing
...that would be an insane gift.

all i know is the rest of this week and next monday im gonna panic over this once 8pm rolls around

but yes i would love that, people do keep saying that would actually make the app worth it (i still like it but mmnmfndhfnngh)

in the meantime, while we wait for the definitely guaranteed mkw drop, i can't wait for brain age 2 to be added to the service!
