So, this guy has a massive YT channel and this video has gotten 1.4 MILLION views just in the last 17 hrs, and he says the movie is actually good and he has no idea what those critics are smoking.
That's gonna spread positive word of mouth considerably.
Not to mention even SkillUp says he loves the movie, and he's typically very critical of all things Nintendo

@1UP_MARIO I got the Mario body ash and the coin soap a couple of days ago. Really love how the coin soap smells (it's so home-y), and the Mario body wash has a really unique Coca-Cola smell that's really nice IMO. I just wish the scent stayed on even after washing off, but the bath itself smells so good.
@veeflames we had to get these after watching the movie and enjoying it a lot. You are spot on about the Coca Cola scent and that it doesn’t have a lasting scent after wash. The best thing I liked was the coin bar soap the rest was overpriced lush fun.
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
I've had a look at a few takes on the movie since watching it and I'm not entirely sure why some people are being so negative about it. The only thing I can think of is that this was very much a Nintendo fan service movie. That's the primary bit. And from a lot of the negative takes I've seen it's pretty clear a lot of people don't really understand the source material
As an example. I was very slightly annoyed at how much they fell short of going full Luigi's Mansion. They went close for sure but it ended up being basically more Forrest of Illusion Mini-Castle than Luigi's Mansion. Very almost. I would have lost my ***** if Luigi had done a real, proper "Mario?" wail. Again, very almost. He called out for Mario a couple of times but, really, it didn't quite land. Or maybe a little hum to the Luigi's Mansion theme. Also the Gamecube startup sound as Luigi's Ringtone? Very nice. But how much better would this have been. Although, admittedly, if they had done that I would have thought I'd accidentally left my phone on
Meanwhile some of the places I've seen people be hyper critical? They've missed entirely references. They've said something is a reference to a thing it most definitely isn't. Hell, I saw one video which spent the entire time saying that various things were references to "Smash Bros". Really?
I just bought the digital OST for Super Mario Bros Movie in .flac format (48 kHz 24-bit), with 37 distinct tracks, and am currently listening on my smartphone with Sennheiser 800S headphones and a balanced cable...
It's freaking glorious. This is one of the finest soundtracks I've ever heard, and I don't say that lightly. It's excellent. And while I am going to preorder on CD just for collectibility, the lossless digital download (DRM-free) from Qobuz is where it's at.

@Snatcher
It's very good. On a whole other level beyond typical Mario soundtracks.

Hearing the soundtrack is a good Mario soundtrack is a relief! Those early trailers had a distinct lack of Mario music in them as well as finding out they were gonna use cheese coated pop hits in the soundtrack so I was picturing 1+ hours of Smash Mouth like the Shrek movies.
The first 10 in the list are licensed songs, or songs from other media that's not part of the official OST release. Scroll down and you'll see another set of tracks, 1-37.
Listen with quality wired headphones though if you want the proper experience. And listen to the whole thing. A lot of these songs mix it up halfway through. Level Up, for example, has at least half a dozen different themes throughout the song.

The movie was a beautiful love letter to the series. As a fan of the series for 30 years, I loved seeing the details from so many games showing up on screen. I was expecting it to be mostly based on the older games, but it really had everything. You could really see how much love went into making this.
If someone is not a fan of Mario, I can see why they would not rate it but it is a movie made for the fans and that to me explains the divide between critics and the audience.
The visuals were top notch and the soundtrack oh boy, what a treat, especially some of the medleys were just phenomenal. It really didn't need the couple of non Mario songs that appeared in the movie.
Voice acting-wise, Chris Pratt was actually my favourite. His voice just fit the animation perfectly. All the VAs were really good though (Cranky being the only one that didn't fit as well for me) and I loved that they let Jack Black do what he does best.
If you are a Mario fan, you should go watch it. If not, you probably shouldn't, unless you have kids, they will definitely love it.
Put on my Princess Peach shirt and saw the movie this morning, oh my gosh! It was awesome! The whole movie is great in my opinion, the visuals, the story, the music, all the nods to the games and Nintendo, I loved it!
Little side note, seeing the Trolls trailer alongside the movie made my birthday more awesome! Getting to see two of my favorite things on the big screen was a great treat. I know it's not related to Mario, but it was really special to me.
Now, onto the spoilers stuff. You have been warned if you clicked on it!
To start, I loved how Brooklyn looked. The whole scene felt like The Secret Life of Pets, while it is an Illumination movie, this movie didn't cross my mind and the style complements it well IMHO. Also, I loved the easter eggs such as the Jump Man arcade machine, Punch-Out Pizza, even saw the Duck Hunt duck in the background of one of the Brooklyn scenes. Charles Martinet's cameo was fun and easy to pick up on. I loved the Italian dinner scene, as someone's whose family is Italian and knows the family dinner experience, I can really appreciate this scene, and love how Mario hates mushrooms.
One of my favorite things about this movie is Princess Peach. I was in the right to wear my Peach shirt, because she shined in this movie. I love playing as Peach whenever the option is there, like in Mario Kart and Super Mario Party. I thought I like Peach before, this movie made me love her even more. She wasn't the kidnapped Princess, she was leading a battle against Bowser. She was completing a training course like it was nothing. I really like what they did to Peach.
The references, gosh there were so many of them and I'm here for it. So many little details that were just fun to pick up on. My personal favorite was seeing King Bob-omb. I did not expect him to show up to the wedding, I loved seeing it as having played Super Mario 64 on my Wii U fairly recently. Speaking of wedding, I loved how Bowser did all this to try to marry Peach, which led to a rather neat reference to Super Mario Odyssey. I loved how his wedding hat appeared. I could just go on about all the nods to the game, they really paid attention to detail. Speaking of Bowser, I loved how Bowser did musical numbers, these were really fun to watch. Also, I really like how Bowser torches a koopa and it becomes a dry bones. This is how dry bones are made, it's canon and you cannot change my mind, lol.
Gotta ask, what was up with Luma. Luma was really dark. When Luma said "fresh meat for the grinder," I was thinking to myself "oh my gosh that's dark." Hope Luma will be ok, because that was some really dark stuff.
The final battle in New York was epic, and I loved that the star was the invincibility star, at one point I was wondering, was that the stars you collect from Super Mario 64. That final battle was fun to watch.
Finally, the bonus scene, my friend and I lost it at the Yoshi egg! Which was a nice extra to throw in there, though the Yoshi scene was cute too. Overall I absolutely loved this movie!
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
@Anti-Matter I totally agree! I loved the almost brutal mortality of the film. It was very refreshing quite honestly. I love Mario regardless, but seeing a little more depth in the standard Mario plot was pretty nice.
