RIP QoL(quality of life).
Nintendo is putting their QoL sleep tracker on the backburner. It will no longer release at the end of March. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/02/quality_of_life_devi...

"In regards to the Quality of Life [device], which was not mentioned in any of today’s questions, we do not have the conviction that the sleep-and-fatigue-themed [device] can enter the phase of actually becoming a product,” Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said during an investors Q&A session (translated by Wired). "We no longer have any plans to release it by the end of March 2016."
But am I surprised it's ended up this way? No. I couldn't even imagine in my mind what it would look like selling in the Nintendo aisle at Best Buy or Target, or where it would even be placed in the store if not there, let alone actually getting this thing and finding it to be useful enough to put money into. Wii Fit accidentally sparked a mission in their mind that nobody asked for and is a territory they need not tread in.
To be honest the project probably went haywire when iwata died. Kimishima doesn't think it'll do enough business in the long term most likely, as well as health and fitness being a very competitive market.
Not necessarily dead, but on indefinite hold and low priority. NX, mobile, Nintendo Account, and MyNibtendo are the top priorities.

do you have any idea how many Wii's they sold on the back of stuff like Wii Fit?
just because you didn't ask for it and you can't imagine seeing it in a Nintendo aisle doesn't mean it couldn't be successful. you would have said the same about Brain Training or Wii Sports.
@Dankykong: It's not a gaming peripheral, so I don't think it would be sold alongside the Wii U and 3DS. Gamers aren't the market for such product either.

Because they added game aspects into everything you said. That's why it sold, and if you recall a lot of idiots thought Wii Fit was their cheap quick and fun ticket to losing all their weight. You know how many Wii Fit units are sitting on the used game shelves? You know how all the games go for 99 cents and how Wii Fit U bombed in comparison to it's predecessors? It hardly has to do with WiiU sales, people who have the old ones didn't upgrade. At any rate they sold GAMES. This = NOT a game, which mean it's not directed specifically at the same crowd. I highly doubt they're trying to nail kids and 20 somethings into their QoL exclusively.
@Octane : pretty much my point. Gamers aren't in the market for this, so who's going to end up actually looking at this? Mom and dad? Why? Because they had Wii Fit and used it for 6 months back in 2008?
Not saying it's impossible for this thing to bust out and be a seller but good luck to Nintendo LOL

People who are interested in health peripherals.
Right. But the market is saturated with these products. It obviously does something more unique than most units but I still stand by my opinion that this is weird, unneeded and is probably doomed. Or it'll get pushed out to sell, and be forgotten like any of their peripherals. I don't believe because Wii Fit and Brain Age did well, that this has to do just as good. As of now, there's no correlation between the two things except that it's Health related. Sleeping on a tab that monitors your brain ≠ Wii Fit with the fit board.
I hate to say, but if they can't push the WiiU, how are they going to push this to sell?

It would have been sold along with other health products, in catalogs, or maybe even by doctor's prescription, but definitely not in the Nintendo games isle. I'm quite sure Nintendo was looking to compete in an entirely different market from video games, so they would have been looking at their competition (other QOL technology companies).
And I'm sure they were going to try to market outside of Nintendo fans. To not do so seems just silly. It would have been a division of Nintendo that would behave just like any other health technologies company.
