Topic: Which one, 3DS or Switch?

I'm thinking of selling my Wii U and (if I am lucky) use the profits to buy a new system, but which one to choose?
I was thinking of the Switch but there is still a lot more games available and inbound for the 3DS.
Now I don't know which one to choose!

I thought you people on the forums could give me your opinion?

I mostly want the 3DS game Fantasy Life, it just looks so downright adorable!

Wish I could get both 3DS and Switch

Here's a quote from the latest IGN Game Scoop podcast: "I want to play Persona 5 on my Switch...I want to play everything on my Switch!" ..I think that kind of sums it up - the 3DS probably has the most diverse range of games money can currently buy - but the Switch could be a potential game changer. You play it - and you kinda don't want to go back to the way you used to play games...

...if you want instant access to a diverse selection of games - get the 3DS. If you want something fresh and exciting - and you're willing to let your library grow over time - invest in the future and get a Switch

EDIT: Also, although Nintendo are continuing to support the 3DS for the remainder of 2017 - it remains unclear how long they intend to keep it alive for...the Switch is at the beginning of its life-cycle and so, again, you'd be investing in the future by picking one up

For me it's a no-brainer: Switch everyday. Hardware is fantastic, you can play it both on TV and portable (like a 3DS). The best game ever is on this platform and soon other fantastic titles will come: MK8D, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odissey and so much more. Maybe it's not that important to remember, but it's always good to do it: Switch will be the first Nintendo platform with actual voice chat and social media interaction, so imagine what you can do with your friends and with all of us! I mean, why are we still talking about it?

Well, it depends. How much of a Zelda fan are you? Does any of the games coming out for Switch interest you? How many 3DS games do you want to play?

I think that if you are not that much of a Zelda fan or you are patient enough to wait for a more extensive library, you should go for the 3DS. People will mostly recommend you the latest hardware, but what's the point if most of the games you want are in the previous one? Besides you can get a 3DS with a good price and a bunch of games for the price that you can sell later to buy the Switch.

I normally wait for at least 5 games before justifying the purchase of a console, but that's me.

Depends on what you're looking for really. 3ds already has a strong library where the Switch will take a few more years to reach that status. While there's plenty you can play on the 3ds its stronger suit is rpgs. If you like rpgs then the 3ds just maybe the system that last you 3 to 4 years longer if picked up today. Plus you can get soooo many games cheap.

So if you have a lot of time on you're hands and want a lot of games now get the 3ds. If you don't have a ton of gaming time and can wait between games then the Switch might be right for you. I fall into the medium range of time and all I've been playing for the last 6 weeks is Zelda minus the occasional games with the family.

I say get both, but do it in a financially efficient way. I say buy a 2DS since you can get it for $80 with Mario Kart 7 included. Coast with that until the holiday season rolls around then consider picking up a Switch then when it has a better game library.

Unless you're a real tech savvy guy like me... if so, then just pick up the Switch now!

If you need to sell a system to buy another id also say buy a 2ds or 3ds for now. Otherwise you wont be playing much. Also its not a shame to buy used games. I do. Many 3ds games should be affordable now.

If you want to save some money, get a 2DS or New Nintendo 3DS now and wait on the Switch for a bit. People are going to argue that you have the latest system, but here's a question to ask. Have you ever played some of the classics the 3DS has to offer?

Because if you've never owned one, then you're missing out on Super Mario 3D Land, Smash Bros for 3DS, Fire Emblem Awaking, Fire Emblem Fates, Fire Emblem Echoes, A Link Between Two Worlds, The remakes of OOT and Majora's Mask, Dragon Quest VII, Dragon Quest VIII, Mario Kart 7, and numerous other games such as Monster Hunter, Kirby, and others.

My point is this, the Switch is tempting, but it will take it at least 2-3 years to ever get to the 3DS' level in terms of depth of library and games.

Get a 2DS(if you want to save money) or a New Nintendo 3DS and enjoy the best handheld Nintendo has ever made. Keep in mind, the 3DS also have a virtual console that includes NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, and if you own a New 3DS SNES games.

Even if the Switch adds Virtual Console, knowing Nintendo's history of slowly putting out games, it could be years before it even comes close to what the 3DS has to offer today.

So, you could play classics like Super Mario Land, Link's Awakining DX, the Donkey Kong Land games, Earthbound, the Donkey Kong Country Games, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, and countless others on the 3DS. All those classic games on the go? It's totally worth it! And they are on the 3DS VC today! No waiting for them to be added later.

You want my opinion, I simply think the Switch is not worth it right now. Yeah, people will argue about investing in the future, but how long are you going to have to wait before the Switch is even at the 3DS' level in terms of games?

If you have never owned a 3DS or sold yours off years ago, why deny playing such a great system? Pick up a 2DS or 3DS, play some of the best games ever made, and then in a couple of years when the Switch's library is bigger and Nintendo has added stuff like the Virtual Console, then buy a Switch.

But unless you really want to play Zelda right now with a promise of a new Mario, I don't think the Switch is worth it right now.

These guys have weighed in with some wise thoughts, but I'll throw my two cents in as well. First of all, I'm not a fan of selling game consoles, and so far I have never regretted keeping a console (going all the way back to my NES). If you are dead set on selling the Wii U, so be it.
I would definitely recommend getting a 3DS now, whether in the form of a 2DS (if you want to save money), or a New 3DS, which is just a fantastic piece of hardware. I just finally got my New 3DS for Christmas after playing various DS handhelds for the last decade, and I don't regret getting it for a second. I already have enough games for my 3DS to last me a long time and I don't feel like I've even scratched the surface of its library.
As for the Switch, I would say try to get one of those down the line as well. You're posts made it sound like maybe this wasn't an option, but maybe you could save for a while and ask for cash for your birthday and holidays if possible. I feel like there really is no rush to get a Switch in its current state, except for maybe wanting to play Zelda, but you can do that on your Wii U (if you keep it).

Good luck, let us know what you decide!
