Hi, i hope someone can help me out here.😉
So..got myself switch oled set it up ..no problem. Husband decides he wants one so thats arrived today. Setting it up and wouldnt accept different email account so ended up using same email account as 1st one is registered to. Now ended up with both switches having same person ( husband)set up as owner of each switch, ended up setting myself up as an additional profile . So i can play but we cant play against each other as its all set up on the same nintendo account. If i try change husbands profile on switch to my name it changes it on the other switch as well.

Any idea how we seperate the two switches . Husband did do a factory reset on his but still couldnt set it up with a different email, even tried using my works email.

Any help much appreciated.
Thank you

@Woof You can only make one nintendo account with an email address. So, you need another email address to make another nintendo account.

To play against each other with two consoles, each console will need it's own nintendo account, and it's own copy of the game. And yes, that means you'll have to by two copies of the game. One for each console. So, set up your user & nintendo account for a console, and buy the game with it. And do the same for your husband with the other console.

When you buy a game on eshop, the game will belong to the nintendo account that bought it.

Earlier, when you linked a switch user profile to the same nintendo account on both consoles, the switch system see's them as the same person.

You're switch user profile is essentially your game save data profile.

Paid games require a Nintendo Switch Online subscirption to play online.

Some games can only played console to console with internet. Some can do it via switch blutooth (aka "local wireless"), don't require internet. And some games can do both. I think Mario Kart 8 can do it either way.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your detailed response. Do you think if we both do factory resets on each switch and start again it will fix issue? Knowing that we need two different email addresses one for each account.

Im sure if i was about 30yrs younger this would be simple..lol

@Woof You don't need to factory reset. If both consoles were linked to one nintendo account, you only need to fix one console.

You essentially just need to make a new switch user profile and link it to the desired nintendo account. If you want less clutter, you can delete that duplicate, unnecessary switch user.

If you want to factory reset both consoles, you can. It will boot up just like it was new.

(edit: When I was new to the Switch, I struggled with setting up a second user on my console for Splatoon.😆)

@WoomyNNYes thanks..ive just been on my ipad created a new nintendo account under my email address thats worked. Went on the switch and as im now the 2nd of 8 possible users on mine as husband shows as main user i went on there to the 2nd user went to link account...it liked email and password but then it states proceeding will change the console to this account , will this just change my console and leave husbands as it is? Just want it to change my console.

Thanks so much for your help and patience.

@Woof If I understand. The console is just asking, are you sure you want to link this switch user to that Nintendo account.

To make things simple. On your console you want your switch user linked to your nintendo account.
If there are other switch user profiles on that the console and it confuses you, you can delete them.

Do the same for your husband's console.

========================================================

If you've seen mention of Primary console.....

With the switch system, the first console you link your nintendo account to becomes designated as your "primary" console. If you link your account to a switch user on another console, that will be your non-primary console. (these designations aren't locked. You can change them.)

On your primary console, all switch users on that console can play the games you own. On your non-primary console, only your switch user can play the digital games you own.(you can't share your digital games on that console) Nintendo just doesn't want you to be able to share your digital games with the world. So, they only let you share your games with other users on one console.

@Woof Just to add to what's already been said, you can actually play the same game on 2 different Switch consoles at the same time with a single (digital) copy of the game.

Sounds confusing, but actually quite simple - If you add both users/accounts to both consoles and make your console your husband's Primary console, and make his Switch your primary console you'll be able to share your digital games with each other.

The only slight downside to this is that, because you are playing on your 'non-primary' console, it'll do an brief online check to make sure you are not playing on another console at the same time, so you need to be online. It literally just pops up with a message to say "checking to see if the software can be played" and you can play as normal.
