Hi all,
Feeling my age right now, having a problem where, hopefully, I'm just having a senior moment..
Trying to connect an old Wii to a new Samsung smart tv. I've bought the proper adapter to go from the the Wii to HDMI. Also used a USB cable. No matter what I do or select as source etc, the tv will not recognise the Wii. Tried all the connectors, even removing my Virgin box HDMI cable and using that socket. The Wii works fine on an old small tv with the three jack plugs. Where am I going wrong?
Thanks
Hard to tell without knowing exactly what adaptor you are using. If it's something like a Wii2HDMI then it should just be plug & play. What's the USB cable for?
I suggest getting a Wii U. They are fairly cheap, play Wii games and hook up to modern tvs since they have an HDMI output. Plus it uses all accessories that the Wii uses to.

Hi all,
Wii to HDMI adapter, no switches.....
Really don't understand it. Checked settings on TV and Wii. What s frustrating is it works ok using the original cables on the old small tv, and everything else works on the hdmi sockets on the Samsung tv.
Wii Us differ in price, in my country, just the system (no Gamepad) goes around 100 bucks, which is alot for smth you simply CANNOT use without the Pad.
Does your @Wilts620 TV support COMPONENT? (5 Cable squid) that would be a good alternative for that, and those go for 15-30 bucks, which is not as bad as an entire new system.
Wii2HDMI adapters reviews are all over the place rn, yours MIGHT be busted!
Edit: Cheapest Wii U i see is 189 without games, oof.
Lightgazer, thanks. Haven't used the Wii for a few years ( on a different tv... ) so no great loss, just that it's now becoming a bit of a challenge.
Wii to HDMI adapter is new , bought to try and solve this issue. Tried it on a third tv, no luck.
As @Lightgazer has mentioned, you could have a faulty Wii2HDMI. You could try returning it and seeing if the replacement works. The one I bought was about £6 and works fine - although I actually slightly prefer the picture when using a Component cable so never actually use it.
That's true, it could be that the resolution is not supported on either of @Wilts620 s TVs.
You could try every resolution on your Wii and try to plug it into the tv again, would be nice to have the Tube or anything next to it to switch on the go, that would remove the possible 480 issue.
Someday, somewhere in the Sky...
may we meet again.
I think the Wii2HDMI adaptor upscales to 720p or 1080p, so unlikely your TV won't support it. Most (all?) modern TVs still support standard def anyway (480) so shouldn't be an issue. It's only when you go back to the likes of NES etc you might get issues.
