I'm having a strange issue with my old 3DS. For some reason the A button doesn't seem to work properly. I tried to play a few game with it and it doesn't seem to work at all. So I was wondering If you guys could give me some reasonable explanation as to why this happen and what options should I consider.

Why is it that everyone says that regardless of the issue? I've probably saved people from $1,000's of dollars worth of repair bills and it's no thanks to people thinking that you're supposed to send a system in for every issue...some are bugs that require no repairs...sigh.

I get where you're coming from, but instead of complaining it may be more helpful to suggest a fix.

@Neko_Ichigofan: Because if you do self repairs and really mess up Nintendo will charge you an even higher amount so in the end it's just better to have the experts do it. Also if an object is still has the warranty it won't cost anything. My apologies for trying to help someone.

If you don't like what people suggest I suggest keeping your comments to yourself next time.

I'm not even talking about repairs at all. People have a problem with a Wii Mote syncing...send your Wii in for repairs, my Wii U froze twice in one day, send it in for repairs "despite that being pretty normal with the Wii U OS". FACEPALM

@Legend42 I've heard of this issue before, I think the fix is to get a can of air and blow dust particles that are stuck below the button out. If that doesn't work I'm not really sure what you could do without voiding your warranty.

@Tasuki, Nintendo actually charges a fee even if the product is under warranty. It's the $25 shipping fee. So it can cost upwards of $50 even if it's under warranty.

@Santa Fixed.

@Neko_Ichigofan: Well I guess next time I will ask for your permission before I try and help someone. Sorry for trying to help. I guess we aren't all as smart as you.

@Legend42: To get back on the subject matter, what exactly is the problem? Is the button itself stuck, or does it simply not respond to presses? And do the B, X and Y buttons still work? I guess you could try blowing the dust out with some compressed air, but it'll be hard to get the can in the right place and I don't think that'll adress an issue like this.
I wouldn't recommend self-repairing unless you have experience with that kind of stuff. You could technically screw it open and try to fix it yourself, but like Tasuki said, if you accidentally screw up it'll cost you even more to get it fixed.
I agree that the best option is probably to have Nintendo take a look at it. You did say it was your old 3DS, so you probably have a replacement and you probably don't have your warranty anymore. Repairing usually costs at least 60-70 euros. I'd say send it in and wait until they send you how much a repair will cost. Then decide on whether you want it repaired or not. But trust me on this, don't screw it open unless you know exactly what you're doing. And since I wouldn't know what I would be doing, I'm afraid I can't help you with self-repair.
Good luck!

@Santa Sorry about that...>_>

@Tasuki That's not the issue here, sending a system in for repairs is the last resort legally speaking. Nintendo has gotten better since the Wii days, but mistakes and loss of downloaded content are still fairly common, so until Nintendo deals with that, sending your consoles in for repairs is a gamble.

@Poketendo: When the fronk did I say anything about repairs?! Using a can of air to remove dust from a 3DS isn't considered repairing it INFINITE FACEPALM...

@Legend42: I had this problem with my first 3DS when... uh, it was dowsed with water.
In all seriousness, though... the functionality came back on it's own, after I had already upgraded to the 3DS XL. Unless you're willing to wait a while and see whether the A button will start working again, I can't really help you with your issue. Only thing I can see you doing is sending it in to Nintendo.

God first.

@Neko_Ichigofan: What are you talking about, I have heard from more people that losing their data happens more often when they try to fix it themselves then when sending it to Nintendo. And honestly you need to stop with the facepalming that is extreme rude.

I would stop if people would stop putting words in my mouth. I clearly never said to take the system apart and repair it. I'm sorry that I'm getting a bit gruff...

@Neko_Ichigofan: I never put words in your mouth but I don't appreciate getting told off cause I suggested to someone to send it to Nintendo for repairs. They asked a question I gave a appointed response and you went off on me like I was telling them something wrong. And then you go facepalming people. You may be able to get away with that kind of stuff on your site but I don't appreciate you going off on me here.

@Santa sorry for going off topic here. I am done here. Obviously it's a crime to help someone out around here.

@Tasuki Would you like a $20 PSN card later this year? I feel so bad with how I behaved that I really want to make up for it somehow. Please respond so I know that you have seen this message.

@Neko_Ichigofan: Nah that's ok. If you want just use it as a give away on your site. Maybe have a Splatoon tournament or something and winner gets it.

I could have handle it better too so your entirely not at fault. When stuff breaks I am a bit paranoid of doing self repairs and messing things up myself so I find it just better to send it in to the company for repair. Of course if your comfortable about doing a self repair then by all means enjoy. But yeah its no biggie man all is good.
