Topic: Noki bay shadow Mario level

I've recently gone back to super Mario sunshine and I was playing the shadow Mario level in Noki bay. It was going well until the water I sprayed at shadow Mario stopped affecting him. He wasn't writhing on the ground defeated, so I definetley hadn't beaten him. I tried exiting the level and going back to it but it still happened so I couldn't complete the level. Has this happened to any of you? What do you suggest for this problem?

I was able to beat him this time without it happening. I wonder why it happened.

Maybe it was a glitch.
