Topic: Mark notifications as read

It seems odd how notifications in my 'control panel' are marked as read. If I click a notifcation (e.g. someone mentions me in one of the forum posts) this notifcation remains unread. The only way to mark the notifications as read is by going into the notification center and click 'Mark all as read'.

Is it supposed to work like this or am I missing something? I would expect a notification to be read once I've clicked it. This seems a bit odd. Thanks!

@antdickens I'm only considering 'on site' in the OP. When I click the link from the user menu on top it's not marked as read as you suggest. In the meantime I did discover the 'x' button, but I never noticed it before because I mainly access the forums mobile. With some extra effort, the x appears in mobile too.

It's not that big a deal, but it just seems odd that clicking the link to the message is not enough to mark the notification as read.

@antdickens thanks for the effort and looking into this! I'll check it next time when I have a notification

@Octane hehe thanks, but clicking the link still doesn't mark the notification read; both from the menu as from the notification page...? @antdickens

Are you click the back button after reading the post? Because if so mine does that too, but all I do is refresh the page after going back, this clears the notification.

I just tested something: if I open in new window it doesn't mark as read, whereas when I open in the same window, it does mark the notification as read. Seems like we're almost there

@toiletduck That's normal I think. When I open my notifications in separate tabs, they're still there, but if you refresh the page they're gone.

@toiletduck ah hah. Yeah, if you right click 'open in new tab' then it doesn't trigger a click on the notification and therefore doesn't get marked as read. I'll see if this is something that can be controlled, however, I have a feeling that it won't. If so, I might need to add some further changes to record the clicks to mark them as read.

No it's not, it's like @antdickens says. Sounds good, keep us posted

@toiletduck Hah, maybe I'm just making stuff up! Either way, I don't mind having to manually delete them.
