I've got a ZuneHD. =D I do like my Zune, a lot, it's very beautiful, but the most recent iPod nano is tempting. It's so small. If Virgin Mobile had WP7, then I'd stick with Zune because it's easy to sync music to. I like eliminating devices to save space in my pockets.
I'm thinking Zune failed partly because iTunes has weird file types that can't be used on the Zune devices, most people had iPods before they heard of Zune. Also, I can't remember a single Zune advertisement, but I can remember iPod's, maybe they should've made a better impression with the public.
Throw money and stick to their guns. Also they didn't fail with windows phone either. becoming third in a year under a crowded OS market place is great and they're gaining marketshare.
Also unlike Zune (though the HD is beautiful Hardware design) the xbox and WP7 were chock full of innovation. Also keep in mind more marketshare will come when people use Metro on their TV and computer and then want to pick up a metro based phone when they go to upgrade. .
Windows Phone is a "failure" compared to Android and iOS. Yes I realize it's only been out for a (couple?) years, but Microsoft needs to advertise it more. That's how they got the Xbox brand to be so successful, through constant advertising of it's features.
And I don't see how anyone can like the Metro UI. It's too cluttered and unorganized (just a bunch of boxes cluttering the screen makes it hard to navigate through). I dread having to use it in Windows 8.
Its been 1 year. windows phone started around this time last year. You don't go in expecting to become market leader in one year. All reports are saying that having Nokia as the main WP7 device maker is leading to massive sells in the UK.

It was a weird format that has better sound quality than mp3. Zune uses it now though.

I can never hear the difference. Glad to know it can now work with Zune. So, like, those AAC and M4A files all work on Zune devices?
Also, I agree with @tendoboy1984, Microsoft does need to advertise WP7 a lot more. And get better advertisements. The ones the have now really don't catch my interest.

Nokia? Doesn't Nokia make their own phone OS?
Not anymore. They had plans on their roadmap to transition from Symbian to Meego. Now they released one Meego phone and killed the platform and Symbain is being phased out with Windows Phone 7 and windows 8 tablets becoming their focus.

I can lol.
Yeah the marketing push has already started in the UK and the american one should start around CES.

I do like Microsoft's Windows 7 ads: "I'm a PC and I made Windows 7", or something like that. They're direct, to the point, and show off the new features of the OS. And Microsoft did an excellent job marketing their Xbox brand and Kinect. Granted, with Kinect they copied the Wii's early ads, but if it works then go for it.

=D I love the Windows 7 ads. Nothing compares to Apple's advertising though. I think it's the fact that Apple limits the number of humans in their ads.

So many other companies are parodying Apple's "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" ads. Just recently, I saw an ad for Virgin Mobile that was making fun of T-Mobile using Apple-style advertising.

I have the opposite view. I absolutely 1000000% DESPISE the cluttered and unorganized mess that is the iOS and whatever dessert that Android is up to now. I don't have any particular hatred for either two companies well maybe for Apple a little but that's how I feel.
WP7 has been out for a bit over a year and I'm completely in love with it. Microsoft is advertising it and it's continuously gaining market share. Check out the giant WP7 in Times Square. There's tons of statistics and tons of opinions out there, as there are about everything, that state the gamut from "it's wildly popular and will trounce all other phone OS's" to "it's floundering". At the end of the day though all that matters is that I like it.
My wife has had a Zune for a few years and she loves it. I've always wanted the Gears of War limited edition Zune but I really don't see the point of having a dedicated MP3 player any more when I can do it all on my cell phone.

Then why is the iPod line constantly selling so well? Clearly people DO want media players, look at iPod Touch sales. It's more convenient to have an iPod Touch (for me) cause I don't have to pay any data fees or cell phone bills. I use my normal cell phone for calling and texting.
And what you just said could also be said about the gaming industry. "Why have a gaming console when I can do all that on a PC?"

The Music only Ipod lines have slowed down. The ipod touch isn't a dedicated music player.
I do want to pick up a 5th gen Ipod nano used as these new ones suck.
I personally use this [youtube:ZrNhKcxBbZo]

The new nanos look terrible. A 1-inch touchscreen? How in the hell is anyone supposed to use that? Your whole finger would get in the way.
That Motorola Zoom looks nice. Are Android tablets selling well now? I thought they were struggling for years against the iPad, but recently they have gotten a boost in sales. True?
Are there going to be any Windows Phone 7 tablets?

You must have missed the part where I said I really don't see the point and I can do it all on my cell phone. I never mentioned anything about everyone else and their preferences.
I could make a case for why I think a dedicated mp3 player would be great for someone like my 8 year old who I won't permit to have a cell phone yet. Obviously not a lot of choices left in her case. The nanos? Great for very active people who don't want a huge honkin cell phone strapped to themselves while they jogged through Central Park, etc.
@tendoboy1984 I hope so! I really want (but don't really need) one.

That's Windows 8 running on a tablet. Not Windows Phone 7.
