Not a single person in the thread mentioned the word "shooter."
Up until I posted, only two people mentioned the word "Zelda", only one mentioned Ocarina of Time, and aside from quoting the article, there had been only one mention of "first-person perspective". Sorry, I didn't mean "everyone". I realized I misread a few people's posts, so it's closer to half.
Miyamoto said that the camera system in Super Mario 64 was designed to focus on Mario. In Zelda games, the camera's center of attention isn't Link, it's the environments around him.
Not only would experiencing Hyrule through Link's eyes would add a lot to the game, but it would also reinforce the original idea that the player is Link.
Some of you may find this information surprising, but I really don't. Samus' first game with 3D [aside from the cameo in Super Smash Bros.] was an FPS. It was called Metroid Prime, and was praised by many.
Honestly, a first person Zelda game could be really great, just as long as the emphasis was on the RPG and exploration side.

it's a first person adventure game, not fps. and did you know it started out in 3rd person?
Lots of censorship here...

A first-person Zelda game wouldn't be an FPS, either. Before the release of Metroid Prime, people ridiculed the idea of a first-person Metroid game, for the same reasons that the idea of first-person Zelda game is still ridiculed.
Metroid Prime didn't start out in third-person. It started out as a generic FPS prototype that nothing to do with Metroid.
If that DID happen, OoT would have been even more groundbreaking than it already was.
