How come you can revive your allies in most RPGs, but when a character NPC has to die, you can't bring them back?
How come a sliver of metal tells a supernatural animal to obey you?
How come a kingdom that obviously has no indoor plumbing has a plumber?
Why doesn't the T-Virus spread through the air or more importantly, how come you can't get infected except in ORC? And on the topic of Resident Evil, how come you don't get infected by the T-Abyss Virus in Revelations even though there are about five underwater stages?
What the hell is in the food in the Dead or Alive universe?
Why is it that Mario can breathe indefinitely underwater in his 2D adventures but he has a limited oxygen supply when he goes 3D?

He can breathe indefinitely in SM3DL.

That settles it! The CLOCK is how much time Mario has before he runs out of breath. It's also why, whenever the timer runs out, he automatically loses a life (even if he isn't hitting anything).
EDIT: Or maybe the timer is how much time Luigi bet Mario (or Mario bet Luigi) he would make it if he were to finish a level without breathing. This would still explain the water situation...he was never breathing to begin with!

That still creates a logic problem, how does collecting a clock increase the amount of time he can hold his breath?
Also, I don't know if this has come up yet, but where does Mario put all of those coins he collects? And, even stranger, where does Sonic put all of the rings he collects?
How does DK not throw up after eating so many bananas in one level

I worded that wrong. In the 2D Mario games and 3DS Mario game, Mario is on a timer and has a set time to finish the level. Mario doesn't collect a single clock (pardon my original statement for misunderstanding).

In reality, Mario died after he was killed by Donkey Kong in the arcade version of DK after trying to save Paulina. He made a deal with the devil and was gifted immortalness. Thats why he never ages.
Gotta love than in Final Fantasies, and other RPGs, a party of 4 or 5 can manage to lug around umpteen swords, suits of armor, shields, AND still have space for potions, ether, et cetera. Man, somebody in these Final Fantasy parties knows how to make the most out of backpack space.
Not to mention that they can go through all that equipment AND have time to change armor to suit the circumstances, all in the heat of battle against a ginormous dragon. Even Superman must be envious of speed like that.
How can a Pokemon trainer fit a bike in his backpack?

Honestly, why are we trying to bring logic to video games? ;3 In the end, it's just not going to work, it's like trying to bring logic to Spongebob and his underwater showers.
How come, in Animal Crossing, I can carry a fishing rod, a shovel, a butterfly net and a watering can in my pockets with plenty of room to spare for a few full-sized fish, some T-shirts, glasses and a cap, three or four fruits, a few pieces of housing-sized furniture and God knows what else, yet I can only carry 10 paper letters?
how come in legend of zelda your character never has to take a dump. or any other game for that matter? at least maxis got it right with the sims.
This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

I just like that, as a gamer, you get used to all that kind of stuff.
It's instinct that if you beat something up enough in an RPG, gold and/or items will fall out of their corpses. Or if you come across an apparently impassable obstacle, you know to go and look for the 'key'. I'm sure to outsiders it doesn't make a lot of sense, but after playing games for years one stops questioning that sort of thing and just gets on with it!
I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.
