Topic: Your Christmas Gaming Delights

I was shocked there wasn't an equivalent of the Halloween-themed thread for Christmas here before so I'm following in @Tasuki 's footsteps by making one myself!

Christmas is my personal favourite time of the year: it's a time for jovial get-togethers, feel good night ins and some self-reflection on the year that's coming to a close. Of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without that trademark aura of wintery whimsy so I pose the question to you: what is it that you like to do with gaming to get you in the Christmas mood? Whether it's playing a game or doing something related to one, all answers are welcome here so have fun: it is the most wonderful time of the year after all

I'll start things off with my personal favourite: sitting down by the fire on a blustery winter night, popping a playlist of Nintendo winter music on the television and doing some Ice-Type shiny hunting in the Switch Pokemon games. That kind of vibe is some of the cosiest stuff I've ever experienced and I think the fact that it only roles around once a year makes it all the more special. Going to go for a shiny Cetoddle this year to celebrate Scar/Vio's release!

The one thing that I've always loved doing is playing snow music from various Mario games while I decorate the Christmas tree. Especially the theme for Snowball Park from Super Mario 3D World, it's easily my favorite snow level theme! Sometimes I whistle to the tune of Snowball Park while it's playing in the background, lol. It's been a tradition for a good while now, and it also helps that I have a lot of Mario-themed ornaments. I like having that music playing while we unwrap our presents, as well.

I think I might play Dragon Quest 11 over the holidays

In terms of what I'll be playing this holiday season, I'll be playing some Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Hopefully I'll be able to at least race on Merry Mountain online fairly often!

Holiday gaming is usually zelda for me. I'm nearly done with OoT at this point.

Super Mario All-Stars, for Super Mario 3. Brings me back to a time when mom surprised me with a Mario and Yoshi ornament, and I just played Super Mario 3 that Christmas season when I was a kid.

Various Sonic classics, I like playing Sonic 1, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic Mega Collection (technically the two games are on it). I got Sonic Mega Collection Christmas 2002, and I have memories playing Sonic 3D Blast in November and December. I also have memories playing the GBA port of Sonic 1 during the Christmas season, so playing other versions on Switch, GameCube, PC, allows me to enjoy that tradition.

Similarly, I like playing games I received for Christmas in the past as it brings back memories of the Christmas I got that game. Because of Steam and GOG's winter sales, I always enjoy getting something new and playing it during the holiday season, Christmas and New Years.

Christmas themed gaming, I love the Holiday Hare episodes of Jazz Jackrabbit, as well as Duke Nukem: Nuclear Winter from the Megaton Edition of Duke Nukem 3D. I also like playing several online games, like Apex has a mode called Holo-day Express, where it's a king of the hill like mode, on a train with Christmas decorations. Also, Asphalt 9 usually has an event where players race on a snow themed track. Snow themed levels in various games, really looking forward to Merry Mountain in Mario Kart's next DLC update.

I liked the japan eshop exclusive from last christmas, Cave Story's Secret Santa. It was only available for the month of january, too, which is puzzling. I emailed Nicalis two weeks ago, asking if it's ever coming to NA eshop, never got a response. I think it was 500 yen on the JP eshop, which was about $5 USD.

It's not an amazing game, but I had a good time with it. It's short.

I love listening to Nintendo winter/ Christmas music while making Christmas biscuits. Seriously the music is so good. When it is dark I love to lie on the couch next to the fireplace and watch at the lit Chistmas Tree, while the music plays.

It would be great if Nintendo made a game with only Christmas stages. This year it might be a good idea to play Kingdom Hearts 1 for the PlayStation 2. Somehow this game feels very fitting for Christmas.

My Girlfriend usually gets me some games for Christmas. Last year she got me BOTW and New Pokemon Snap, this year she's getting me Splatoon 3 and Ghost of Tsushima. I'm getting her Kirby and the Forgotten land.

I'd just like to pop in here again to showcase what is perhaps my favourite winter song in gaming history. As someone who got heavily into the beginning of Octopath Traveler (which I need to go and actually beat at some point), this song genuinely makes me want to tear up.

I think this was pretty neat, Nintendo did a video showcasing all the winter tracks in MK8 Deluxe so far.

Pre Christmas I'm all about the junky Christmas movies. Usually I put on some music going on Christmas eve to set the mood, not usually "festive" music more just something that matches the vibe

Christmas day post lunch? Family games come out. Stuff like Mario Kart, Jackbox, Wii Sports. Nintendo Land worked super well the couple of times we did that. Once everyone has gone? Usually no games, just a wind down

Then the week after Christmas I usually catch up on my backlog a bit. Mostly because in Perth it's too damn hot to do anything else. Also this is when the Switch shines due to its low heat output vs PC. I usually do my PC backlog during the leave I take around July/August and my Nintendo backlog over Christmas
