Topic: Wii 2 playing DS games?

I was reading up on the Wii 2 / Project Cafe and I read the part about the controller having a touch screen, then I thought, what if you could insert a DS game in the console start it up, and have your touch screen on the controller and top screen on the TV. Do you think this is a possibility? Would you want this? It was just a thought =)

That would be pretty neat! Maybe you could send that idea in to Nintendo!

It's supposedly a 6-inch screen, minus the touching capability.

The DS games would look terrible being stretched out on a TV screen. They weren't designed for it.

remember, they're just rumors so we might be dissapointed, but Im pretty sure they are releasing a new console

I actually like this idea. my siblings like to watch me play my 3ds so I think it would be kinda cool to play ds and 3ds games on the big screen.

Well, 3DS games are a whole different story now, because now you'll need a 3D TV unless you only want to play in 2-D mode, which would take away the main feature of 3DS games.

well yeah but I was just thinking that it would be cool to play on my tv. I dont usually turn on the 3d effect anyway...

That's a great idea Link977. Furthermore, I agree with Emil987. The games look just as good in 2D. It's not like we HAVE to play in 3D. Hence the depth slider with which you can the turn the 3D effect off.

BTW rumors or no. I followed the rumors regarding the 3DS (DS2) and the Sony NGP (PSP2) and Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (PSP-Phone) and all these so called rumors were largely correct for the most part. And so I'm sure the information of which Link977 has been reading is also more than likely on target with maybe a few off beats. But, hey, these are exciting times!

OoT 3D with 3DS player would be awesome! (even if I had to play 2D).

I think thats kinda inpractical but they could have the screen on the controller a ds compatible so then you could just get your controller and play it

True but I think Nintendo would lose $$$ on that, because a lot of people play there DS at home

Well with this screen controller there is a small chance it could be used to help bring back the days of when one used to hook up the Game Boy to the Game Cube and play something like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles or Zelda Four Swords.

That would be awesome, but if the top DS screen was the TV, it would most likely be very distorted.

Or scaled by the console to match the original aspect ratio.

That's an astoundingly terrible idea.
a: STREEEEEEEEEEEEETCH. Polygons might just survive the conversion, but all 2D elements (which both 3D and 2D games rely heavily on) are going to hell.
b: Gap between screens. Quite a few games rely on it, to the point that it's irksome when a game ignores the gap, making things like aiming a pain. That is not going to translate at all when said gap is suddenly 8 feet wide.
c: related to b, games and elements that span both screens. Yoshi's Island DS, for one of many examples. Bottom screen is 6", top screen is now anything from a 15" CRT to a 50" LCD. Anything that relies on accuracy between both screens is dead in the water. And think about what that's going to do for the colours, too. Yeep.
d: Oh yeah, one more. 4:3 TVs vs 16:9. Or 16:10. Or 5:4. That's going to do brain-raping things to the aspect ratio.
