@mamp @Knux I can agree with that easily. The Last Of Us looks like one of the best game in Sony history.

I'm excited for the game on a technical level as well as an overall setting level. I'm however not a fan of what appears to be the two main charcters attacking a griup of people they come across. However for all I know joel and ellie had a previous encounterwith this faction. But I was just using that as an example as this e3 has had aloto of grrimer violence in games comparedto others.

For those of you who keep wondering there was a previous encounter and the 2 of them were ambushed. Here's the link to an earlier trailer

Has anyone read The Walking Dead comics? They really explain how a post apocalyptic world works and the morality involved in a post apocalyptic world. Completely different (and a million times better) than the show.

Violence is appealing to humans because it's a primal urge that we all feel at some level - we are omnivores, not herbivores, and therefore at a very base level the idea of pacifism is contrary to our survival as a species.

That said I would have hoped after a few thousand years of civilisation humans might have grown up. Instead we've got a ridiculous conflict going where sex (the other great primal urge) is something we're forced to repress, while violence is just dandy.

That's right down to a linguistic level, too - think of all the words that describe sex. Many of them are considered "rude" words. Meanwhile a statement like "Nintendo is killing it in the market," is perfectly fine - there are almost no words that describe violence that we as a society consider to be offensive.

Anyway. There's the scientific answer to the OP's question.

Many human beings are obsessed with violence, blood, and gore and video games are just another way of fulfilling their "need" for violence. E3 shows all kinds of games, and when %90 of gamers just play games to blow peoples heads off, a good amount of games involve violence, meaning a good amount of games shown at E3 will be violent.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Most developers cannot do creative projects like Nintendo, or Blizzard, or LucasArts at the time, or SquareEnix, so they go for the violence instead. Sometimes violence and creativity go together but many times it doesn't.

There was violence at E3 because sales charts show that violent games sell. Batman Arkham City, Call of Duty, Skyrim... These are popular games riddled with violence that sell amazingly. Not to mention, just about every game has violence since there is a way you can die in pretty much every game on the market.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

It seems today that all you see is violence at E3s and sex on TV.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

It's a good point. But not necessary for games to be fun. Kirby Epic Yarn and all the adventure games of LucasArts/TellTales as examples.

I find the two different approaches towards sex and violence to be very interesting, if somewhat saddening. I know it varies from culture to culture but from my experiences in Australia and the USA, sex is an absolute no-no in most circumstances while violence is A-OK. I find Australia to give a bit more leeway to sex than the States , but not much.

It's really noticeable in movie ratings, I find. You can have a film that's extremely violent, often sadistic, and that's fine for your 15 year old to watch. But as soon as there's sexual references or even the slightest bit of nudity it's all "Think of the children!"

I appreciate that others feel differently, but I don't get it. I think sex should be far more acceptable than violence. Sex is a wonderful thing (between consenting people) and that aspect of it should be celebrated, but as a society (again, US and Australia) we hide it away lest we offend anybody.

Brutally murdering somebody is fine, though!

Look at the Hunger Games. I've seen a lot of violent movies in my time, and don't consider myself to be that sensitive to it. However, not having read the books, the Hunger Games film presented a group of kids killing each other in a narrative what was almost entirely devoid of context. I found that quite disturbing.

It was rated PG-13 in the USA.

Now let's look at "Adventureland" (I'm struggling to think of an example - I haven't seen a lot of movies recently!). Released in 2009, containing some swearing, sexual content and drug use. BAM. Rated R.

Adventureland, as a whole, is a fairly realistic depiction of life as a teenager. Why do we restrict that, when it's fine to show kids (some as young as 8 or 9) hacking away at each other with blades to our children? In my opinion, that's some mixed up priorities.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

Because all most gamers want to play nowadays is war/zombie games, where the is enough blood, gore and violence to satisfy any serial killer (to put it bluntly). That is why Nintendo is my favorite gaming company, they keep making classic, original, fun games that aren't all about mass destruction and death. Although it is sad that recently they've been dealing with other companies that DO make those kind of violent games, because all the average gamer wants to play anymore is something that involves horror and sensual activities, which is too bad. Yeah, I'm 16 and can see this happening. Guess I should have been born a few decades ago...

To a large extent you can thank religion for that. They have repressed one for centuries and glorified the other just as strongly. I'm not talking about about one particular religion either as it's not an isolated phenomenon.

I will not play gory, violent games with blood splatter and shooting humans. I just won't. But I like KIU, where it's a shooter, but it's not violent and gory.

It is sad though how much people like shooting other people and seeing blood, even if it is fake.

Just ask yourself how much negativity is attached to it.
