Because seeing 20-30 year olds playing Mario or Pokemon is considered childish. Not that I care, I love Mario as much as I do Killzone 3 or Uncharted.

I'm glad to see Naught Dog going outside the box with The Last of Us. I'm so sick of their goofy snore fest we call games.

I can't toot for the main charcters since you just murdered 8 people who acted in self defense against you.

the amount of gore (not violence) also surprised me this E3

almost every second game was covered in blood after 5 seconds.
i can understand that zombie-games need blood, but a normal action adventure just doesnt need that.

According my friend who's following it heavily, those guys actually jumped them (or was it someone else?) earlier, so you could say they're getting revenge or something. Still don't make it right, in my opinion, though, and there are still many other problems there. But at most, not establishing that stuff at the beginning made for a terrible presentation of the game, IMO.

I am going to chip in with my opinion here. My favorite game is No More Heroes. This game is pretty violent, but that's not the reason its my favorite game. The reason its my favorite game, is because of the story and each unique character. What I am trying to say is, try looking passed the violence. Yes, sometimes the violence is very unnecessary, but what if the story is amazing? I think violence can add a great deal of emotion to certain plots. Also, try looking passed the people who call themselves gamers, when all they do is play a game for its violence. Try looking at the people who genuinely enjoy the game for what it is. Ninja Gaiden, for example, is an amazing game. The violence is just right, I think. I mean, he is a godam ninja, what are you going to expect? The amount of blood that comes out of enemies is definitely exaggerated, but it adds to the feel of being a bad ass ninja, I believe. It makes you feel powerful. I am sorry if you disagree with me, I will respect your opinions.

Those guys came across as up standing citizens that would have left Joel and the girl alone had they seen them first....

Nobody saying the games with violence can't be great. What we're saying is that the violence is uncessery a lot of the time. If it adds nothing, why do they insist on adding it in the first place? I can guarantee you Ninja Gaiden, for instance, is just as good without the blood as it is with it. Ninja Gaiden III forgot what made the game good in the first place, and focused on the cinematics and gore, creating a significantly lesser experience.

They didn't have to fight them. They didn't need to kill everyone of them. I don't think they even needed to be in that house. It was an unnecessary act of violence, and I can't say it made me enthusiastic for the game at all.

I was very disturbed by what I saw of God of War. I actually like playing God of War and don't usually mind violence at all, but the way he was killing those things that looked too much like elephants by grabbing their tusks just really bothered me. Makes me not want to play it. The Last of Us didn't bother me at all. That game looks like a lot of fun. I feel like people aren't appreciating that they are in a post-apocalyptic kill or be killed environment and he is in the position of not letting those guys get their hands on that little girl he is with.

Yeah, I did write that sometimes the violence is very unnecessary. I agree on that with you. Some games use violence as their main attraction, such as Mad World. I loved that game, because it was a more humorous type of violence. Ninja Gaiden is still a good game, I believe. Yes, maybe the violence is exaggerated a bit, but the violence strikes everyone differently. Personally, I enjoy it more with the extra violence. Like I wrote previously, it makes the player feel a lot more powerful, increasing the fun one has. That is just me, though. I believe the violence adds a sense of urgency to certain games, as well.
I do understand where you are coming from, Mickey.

This.

You can throw right and wrong out the window at this point.

Now if you want to say the way he killed them was to much okay I won't argue.

What's he going to do? Slap them to death? Handcuff them? Please.

Money.

Name me an E/E-10 rated retail game from the past few years, that isn't a sequel to a very successful, probably old school series or blatant casual game pandering that has been notably successful.

I was referring to the point blank shotgun to the head and setting a guy on fire. I could see how that could turn some people off from the game. I thought the whole thing was great and can't wait to play it my self.

Violence in gaming has been around for a long time. Take the original Mortal Kombat for example; that was the game in the early 90's that started the ESRB and it was also the game that kids were attracted to wanting to play because it was something that parents DIDN'T want them to play. However, back then it also wasn't uncool or "sissy" or whatever to want to play a Mario game alongside a game like Mortal Kombat, but a lot of kids now see it that way. If it doesn't reek of testosterone, curse words, blood, and boobs, it isn't cool. I'm not sure when that disconnection to anything whimsical or colorful happened exactly, but it's very much a reality now. More adults are playing games like Mario now out of nostalgia than kids are playing them and it's kinda sad.

The Last of Us is the first PS3 exclusive title I've truly been excited for in a very long time. As for those over analyzing the morality of the main character I think you're missing the point of the setting and the moral ambiguity that accompanies it.

Half of the times I've seen this phrase it has actually meant "inconsistent writing". Just so you know. I honestly don't care enough about this game to know if this is true in this case.

Well I think there was a study done where apparently most gamers are in their 20s or older so my guess is they think that violence is all we want. Also on The Last of Us I think the point is to kill or be killed so there's no morals to worry about in a post apocalyptic world where monsters and people both want to kill you.

When I saw this, I disregarded everything else. The Last of Us and Beyond made Sony win E3 hands down.

The Last of Us was the best thing Sony had, it made me want a PS3 too bad I'm not made of money.
