Correct Link Hero, and not only that, but you'll transfer all your VC titles to wii U no problem and same with your VC titles from 3DS to the next handheld

A LOT of misconceptions and outright incorrect facts here. Let's get some things straight:

Maybe not upgrade, but in my experience, PCs themselves don't last more than 4 years.

Perhaps the best thing about PC gaming? Backwards compatibility. I can play almost all of my 300-odd games dating back to the early 90s on a single computer. Beat that, consoles!

Not entirely true. You can easily play older titles through emulation like what the Wii is currently doing.

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here. Are you saying that consoles are capable of backwards compatibility? Or are you saying that you can emulate consoles on PC? (I agree with both).

If it's the former, the PC clearly has far greater compatibility with its back catalogue than any console does (including the Wii). If it's the latter, then that's one extra tick mark for PC!

@MickeyMac: I've never had a PC just die on me like that. I know it happens - I'm not calling you a liar! - but it's never happened to me personally, bar the replacement of a PSU (which I don't consider a catastrophic failure). Consoles die too, but in the case of a PC it's generally a matter of swapping out a HDD, PSU or motherboard with off-the-shelf parts, which can't be done with consoles.

However, I build my own PCs and use good-quality brands, so that's probably got something to do with it.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

I've never tried PC gaming before (although I was hooked on Age of Empires as a kid). I'm happy with my 3DS right now, so I'll probably be sticking with it for the time being.

Whatever you game on, just have fun with it

The PC does not get very many (if any) physical releases any longer. I enjoy collecting games Nd the Switch is the perfect system for collecting on.

The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.

Ah, I remember this thread. Everyone in here besides a few don't post on Nintendolife anymore. I've also forgotten how I got really annoyed reading the many people's ignorance and blatant lies about anything PC related. Anyway, besides that, why did you revive a dead thread?

While their necro was pointless, this was actually a great read. Both in regards to some of the hilarious specs some of these PCs had, showing how far we've come in a decade, but also wow, the amount of misinformation and blatant misunderstanding of PC gaming in here is as hilarious as it is disturbing. Are people better educated now, or do people still hold some of the ludicrous beliefs in this thread? If so, I wonder where all this misinformation comes from.

Yeah, it's both hilarious and sad to re-read this thread.

Getting in before the necro-thread police lock this, physical releases of PC games are actually making something of a comeback thanks to indie games collectors.

I doubt I'll be getting too many of them though, because I'm not into the necessary investment in shelving. Still, check out this little beauty:

Before the thread is shut down, I'd like to mention the reason why I don't really do much in terms of PC gaming is because I'm not good with building computers, and don't know how to upgrade my own. Nor do I really have the funds to sink into upgrading mine at the moment. It's a shame, since there's tons of games I really want to play on my pc, but I can't at the moment.. mainly out of fear of my pc making a strange odor every time it plays a graphically intensive game, despite it not overheating.

If your hardware is more than five years old, you're going to have a hard time playing all the newest games but anything within the last five years should have no problems but you'll just have to get the settings right for your machine.

The problem with playing games on PCs is because it gives money to Bill Gates who we all know is planning to take over the world with evil microchip vaccines. That's why I like Nintendo as they don't use microchips in their consoles as they run on pixie magic and unicorn farts.

IMO at this point the only good reasons to play on consoles are exclusive games and the portability of the Switch. And even that may become obsolete with the Steam Deck.

I think the future of gaming will be on PC, no wonder the PC gaming audience keeps growing.

Ironically, I am starting to think the opposite. The Series X and PS5 are basically midrange PCs and while you could outspec them for cheaper probably, it'd take research, know how and effort, when you can just pay for a console in a single package. And while over the course of the generation PC will most assuredly pull ahead, consoles aiming for 4k 60 fps as their target really closes the gap like never before.

Sure you have stuff like ray tracing etc but that is just nice to have and the tech is barely at it's infancy, so it doesn't really effect any your experience. Not like even one generation ago, where you were getting like 30 FPS and upscaled 4k, or maybe a rough 60 fps at 1080p on a "pro model". While PCs were running at 4k 60fps fairly easily, maybe toward the higher end - but these are necessary performance hitters versus nice to have things. The divide between necessary performance was still truly massive.

If this is the kind of leaps consoles can make through generations now, then I think consoles will only become more viable over time thanks to their cost and convenience.

@Pizzamorg I still think that PC will have more advantages than consoles, especially mod support and backwards compatibility. I'm not sure if consoles will catch up in that regards.

I dunno, Xbox has basically full backwards compatibility. PlayStation and Nintendo less so, I guess. Not to mention that there are many PC games that simply stop working without certain work arounds on modern hardware, so I think backwards compatibility really is best on Xbox right now.

There maybe less mod support on consoles, that is true. But I don't think that is a real decider that will kill consoles off in the end.

PC gaming mostly just seems like too much effort for something I want less than to play on a home console that's easy to connect to a tv. Combined with wanting the Nintendo stuff and not wanting to buy more gaming systems than necessary, it seems obvious why. Also most good games aren't that graphically intense so performance is rarely a huge issue if I just focus on games actually worth my time.

And beyond all that, I just don't want to because I don't want to. It's a side thing sometimes where I'll play some games on PC, but much of that comes from games I got free one way or the other. I'm not invested enough to buy much on PC.
